it's basically what the conservative movement has always been about. Those at the bottom can screw off and fend for themselves. Let's not help people who require it. Have a disability? **** you. Have autism? **** you. Have an injury or other issue that prevents you from working? **** you. Deaf or blind? **** you. Born to parents who maybe can't read very well or are not tech savy? **** you. Life and society should be tailored to everybody who is at 100% function and **** everybody else, that's too expensive, we can't afford it, i mean we can, but we gotta make sure people get a 18.6% return on their investment instead of 17% and we gotta build all that military equipment.7 points

How to lie with large numbers 101. The ratio of 100 to 1 million is ten thousand. If you hire a 'few hundred' people to help tens of millions of people complete a task, you are working pretty efficiently.5 points

I’d rather have my kids be in a bathroom with a trans person than a youth pastor.3 points

I don't agree with notions that Kamala Harris was a bad candidate. I thought she was great and wish she was president elect.3 points

Amen! Priests, pastors, and members of clergy have raped and molested far more children then transgendered persons. Not to mention, the trans community hasn't spent billions of dollars, as the Catholic Church has, covering up child abuse, fighting to pay restitution to victims, and paying out settlements. I'd be far more worried if a priest walked into a men's bathroom than a transman.2 points

She is no longer a man. She is transitioning to be a woman. So yes she can use the woman's bathroom. There have always been and there will always be transgender people whether you like it or not. If you want to defend women, stand up against sexual predators like Donald Trump for example.2 points

I would argue that being very much against public funding being used in an unaccountable fashion to go to private institutions is actually the conservative position.2 points

the states can't provide wha the federal guarantees ... and that's the federal right to a Free Appropriate Public Eductation. That's handled under the dept. of ed and the office of civil rights. I don't thnk you have a clue what the Dept. of Education does. You base your opinions on boilerplate bullet points that sound good on bumper stickers attached to a jacked up F 350 with 3 dozen Trump flags on it... but in the real word....2 points

I don't think she was the ideal candidate and she did run a legitimately bad campaign in 2020. But the dye was more or less cast when Biden picked her to be his running mate in 2020. Where I differ with Tigeraholic is that I think she legitimately ran a better campaign this time than in 2020 and, in the process, her elevation likely made a difference in downballot races.... does anybody think, knowing what we know today, that Tammy Baldwin and Elissa Slotkin win their Senate races if they were sharing a ballot with Joe Biden, for instance? Does the Democratic Party gain a seat or two in the House if Biden is on the ballot? Doesn't mean she wasn't a flawed candidate or that she was the most platonic ideal, I just think a lot of the grousing about how terrible she and leaning it on her bad 2020 performance misses the forest through the trees... Trump winning sucks, but given where we all sat in Early July 2024, this thing could have been so so so much worse for the D Party. Even though some can't seem to acknowledge it.2 points

It’s the fragmented media environment that leads a hundred million-plus people to be Trump fans and supporters and voters, because they never hear a thing about his bankruptcies, business failures, or any of the rest of it. All they hear about is how the price of gas and eggs were a lot lower when he was president, and how he did a great job with the border and no wars and keeping scary transsexuals out of girls’ bathrooms. Everything else reported everywhere else is fake news, and these failures never happened. What’s killing me is how he gets credit for things he is actually trying to destroy, such as overtime pay and other protections for the very working people in thrall to him. He’s like evangelical God in that very basic way: credit for all the good things, no blame for any of the bad things. Which totally tracks.2 points

yet I bet when you try to get help with something you bitch about nobody being around to help and just blame it all in 'incompetence'. But it's different when it's something YOU need. When it's others, they're being lazy because you, Karen, are the epitome of self reliance. Just typical libertarian pie in the sky bull****. Everyone can be one until they need something. This is the kind of thing government should be doing. Providing services.2 points

I read an interesting book, one of the premises of which is that we too often make the incorrect assumption that if you put a lot of information out there, the good stuff (as in that which aligns with objective reality) will 'win out'. The author does of nice job of proving his case that historically it doesn't and technology doesn't help. It's usually the garbage which wins the day, which often leads to a lot of avoidable catastrophe and, leaves those trying to stay aligned with the objective world in the dust. He also wanders off into a lot of apocalyptic doomsaying about what happens when you add AI to that mix. I can take or leave the prognostications but his exposition about how information flows in a society food for thought. 'Nexus' - author is Harari.2 points

Do men not realize they have been around gay and trans people their whole lives. I went to a small school and found out for years I was changing and showering among two guys who were gay. I don’t know what you do in bathrooms but I am not looking at other people. Twice within the lady year I have been to concerts where women ended up in the men’s room. I survived and they survived.1 point

No problems to their face but you have no problem disrespecting them multiple times behind your keyboard. We had a transgender person at work over twenty years ago. At first we made jokes and I was being ignorant but I have empathy for other people and educated myself. I have self respect and don't need to disrespect other people for being their true selves.1 point

My kids school partners with ABC CONSTRUCTION PREP ACADEMY They are all over the country and growing. you go to the school for half a day jr/sr year. They teach you all sorts of trades your Jr year then you intern with a company after a interview process that summer. Sr. year you pick a direction and begin specializing in that direction. . After you graduate you have a full-time job offer and a sigining day like a sports player with your new company and parents. By the time you 22 you can obtain your journeyman license and can work anywhere in the country and it will be accepted. Indiana has a scholarship program so it is no cost to parents This is funded by the trade unions who need young talent to replace the boomers who are retiring. Imagine being 22 debt free and making 50K+ a year.1 point

Yes, even in the high performance Fairfax Public Schools the shop, automotive and other voc-ed programs are a thing.1 point
-
As someone a bit removed from current school systems I have one question. Do they still have shop class anymore? Once again, the only qualm I have with what I perceive of the current setup is that I don't want my tax (state, local, and federal) dollars to fund The First Church of Whatever, or Hoity Toity Private School For People who think their superior? I want my money to go exclusively to the "We will cater to anyone" public school system. And yes you may have a choice, but if you prefer an upgrade it comes out of your pocket not mine.1 point

Especially the few good people he's hired. But yeah—Americans despise competent people who make them feel inadequate about themselves. That's why America is like a big middle school: the bullies are in charge, and when that happens, the people who work hard and get good grades get bullied.1 point

This is where I come from concerning school funding and guidelines I believe we're about the same age and have been there. Leaving the decisions to the states and localities would deepen the divide in education quality between urban and rural areas. The rich communities and counties would get richer, while the inner cities and rural districts would end up fighting for scraps. Finding less funding fewer resources, less support for teachers, administrators and students. I'm very much against any public funding (state, federal or local) going to private institutions. Let's go back to the days that if a church or educational corporation wants to fund a school so be it. But don't take away my taxpayer money to fund your private school.1 point

You and I are old enough to refer to the late 1970s in terms of “as recent as”, while most people alive today refer to it as literally ancient history. I occasionally have to remind myself how long ago the 1970s that I lived through and totally remember is by remembering that when I was in my 20s, the 1930s was a long ago as the 1970s is today, and in no way would I have thought of anything that happened during the 1930s as being any flavor of “recent”.1 point

Trying to find post-bunion surgery shoes. I looked at one website for recommendations, and a moderator took out all brand names mentioned. While I understand the issue, it's frustrating because knowing which brand names make a good shoe to wear while my foot continues to recover is exactly what I need to make the search easier. Also I tried on shoes half a size larger than normal because they didn't have any in the size I've been wearing for years, and it appears that I've been wearing the wrong size. They feel way better, and not just on the foot that's recovering. Live and learn, I guess.1 point

Two questions, given the timing of Biden's meltdown, who would you have picked to be the alternate nominee. And please show your work. By the way, your side allegedly won the election. I'll bet you won't see Harris spending the next four years pretending it was rigged like our sore loser President Elect and his disciples1 point

As one old enough to remember Geraldine Ferraro and goes way back to liking Republican Margaret Chase Smith, the good old boy network is still in charge, unfortunately. Again I remind myself, it was as recent as the late 1970's when my wife was told by the general manager of the most popular station in Richmond, Va (think of a southern version of WJR back in the day) "A woman will never work morning drive on my station"1 point

Please dismantle this albatross known as The Department of Education! 11/22/2024 The Education Department has added hundreds of support staff to help people having trouble filling out the college aid form. WSJ Students and parents completing the revamped college financial aid application are finding the process is better than it was after its troubled rollout—but still glitchy. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid for the next academic year is now open to all students. It is the second attempt at a new Fafsa meant to make aid applications easier, but after the first try left the college admissions season in disarray. The form sent out erroneous aid estimates to schools. Delays and confusion were common. Students gave up or got discouraged, potentially costing them aid money.1 point

It’s nothing like science. Richest man in the world buys a platform and the first thing he does is fire people trained to keep posts from spreading lies. Sure, they may not have done that anywhere near perfectly. The new setup made spreading disinformation a promoted goal and a chance to throw huge piles of money at influencing an election. Musk has zero interest in a open exchange. Truth not valued at all.1 point

There are 330 million people in this country who can't even come close to agreeing on what's true and what isn't. I even hear a lot of people saying that the truth doesn't matter to them. I can't listen to 330 million people and a lot of them are not worth listening to. I weed them out. I like to hear views different from my own, but I don't need to hear lies and bull****.
