  1. The idea that Trump should be disqualified from the Presidency seems pretty centric to me. Trying to do so at this point is probably fruitless and may just make matters worse, but it's hardly a radical opinion.

  4. Regarding Charlie Maxwell, on July 29, 1962 my dad’s Elks Club drove all of us kids from Auburn, Indiana in a rented school bus to Chicago to see a doubleheader vs. the Yankees, where the Sox’s player Charlie “Paw Paw” Maxwell hit three home runs in the split. I clearly remember him hitting at least one in each game and of my dad remarking upon it but I guess I lost interest and didn’t realize he’d actually hit three because I was 10 years old and I had to pee the whole time so my attention was somewhat scattered. I did get to see Mantle and Maris, which was a big deal although neither of them did anything memorable aside from batting practice, but I was pretty disappointed that my first game was not at Tiger Stadium and some woman sitting on the first base side constantly ringing a loud bell was extremely annoying, especially because I had to pee.

  5. It’s a shame that San Francisco’s season has been derailed with injuries. That can be hard for a team to overcome.

  6. https://sph.tulane.edu/study-finds-higher-maternal-mortality-rates-states-more-abortion-restrictions Fear mongering? No, actual statistics. Since it seems some can’t make the connection between higher mother mortality stats in states that changed their laws since Roe v. Wade was overturned, perhaps this article can fill the educational void.

  9. Talk about a solution in search of a problem. bunch of over protective helicopter moms living their life thru their daughters. Oh the horror! The same group of people bitching about participation trophies want to clear the way for their precious baby to not have to face any adversity or roadblocks and learn that sometimes life isn’t what you think it will be. And the day someone asks me to “prove my citizenship” and I’m not applying for a job or entering a country is the day I get arrested. If you agree to that as part of your every day life then you are a sheep and deserve your fate. Of course white people will assume they are exempt.

  11. I didn’t think about going directly to Cabrera for quotes. I don’t know, seems like not much to me unless Cabrera were to come out and refute it. As for Cabrera’s relationship with the Tigers, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s only ceremonial in nature right now. I don’t think there’s anything necessary awkward or nefarious if that were true. The guy has lived the baseball life for years. If he wants a break from it, maybe he wants more family time right now, or is sick of the travel, or whatever the case is, so be it. I would think that the “special advisor” roles are like that for former players/managers. You get a title, you’re invited to things like Leyland’s number retirement, you’re a combination mascot/official. Now Leyland probably does do some scouting and serious baseball work that the front office can use. It just seems like that’s his nature, a true baseball lifer. Maybe it’s not in a full time capacity like some of the other (younger) front office personnel. That’s my wholly unqualified opinion.

  13. The Colts Bear’d him. Youngest QB in the league in two consecutive seasons, and they threw him to the wolves with no time for development at all.

  18. It was to stay out of jail. My thought also, but, he will let whomever strokes him the best decide the agenda for the next four years…. And this is dangerous. Very. And more stacking of judges at state levels is also a horror story. And especially As a woman, I fear for the young women of the country who are in imminent danger of returning to second class citizen status. Childbirth death rates have already risen, and will continue to escalate. and as for immigration reform, I predict in a very near future, where people will be asked (/required) to confirm their citizenship, whether or not they were born here, but if they look like they might have some other nations blood in them, they will be asked for their “papers“. and if you don’t ****ing see this coming, you’re turning a blind eye to the future. Maybe you’re not afraid for yourself or your children, but you damn well oughta be.

  19. Rooting for the Packers doesn't make me as ill as it would have with Aaron Rodgers as their QB. I have not developed any real ill-will towards Jordan Love and I doubt that, given time, he will end up being as big an a-hole as Aaron.

  20. agree; but if his attitude is as poor as Yankee fans would have you believe, he is not interested in learning RF. That would work better for Detroit and would help Torres' FA market next winter, and while it sounds like he was told he can play 2B here, plans can change. a reminder that Torres - Gary Sanchez - Aaron Judge was supposed to be the core of a new Yankee dynasty. the fact that most perceive him as underachieving - even though he is a 2 time all star who debuted at 21 - makes the potential payoff for Harris here significant IMO

  22. Like a lot things, the reality is it's a spectrum everywhere. A quick analysis of the US Senate and electoral college show the US is somewhat flawed democracy. Manipulated elections are a favorite sham of Russian imperialism, so I suppose better that there be a mechanism to reject one than not . Dangerous, yes. If you are in a place where there is no good answer you best take the least bad one. But in Bergler's quote, I think the flaw is in his semantics. Democracy is more than just elections. Russia proves nothing if not that. If a society's rejection of an election is a better reflection of the will of the majority of the people, that is still democracy. The question as always is where is the actual truth.

  23. Yes, it's not really "hard" to get away from, but sometimes they switch it to "for you" automatically and that's where they feed me right wing propaganda. You would think that "for me" would be baseball or sports people that I am not following, but their algoithm does not work that way. Their "what's happening side bar" always suggests either Alex Bregman or some right wing conspiracy theory. At least they got the Bregman part right. Blue Sky is much cleaner. The problem with it so far is that there are a lot of people who are on both twitter and bluesky who still mostly post on twitter (probably because they have more followers over there).

  27. I'm going to be honest, I don't think the world's richest person has the interest of the average taxpaying Americans (including people like myself) at heart. I think he has his own interests at heart. And to the extent his blue ribbon commission recommends anything, his interests will guide his proposals. He doesn't care about any of us

  29. Oil isn't going away - that's simplistic thinking, which both sides engage in because both are mostly economically and/or technically ignorant. The question is how much oil is needed. Sure, the whole world stops without lubricants but you can make all the lubricants the world needs with a tiny % of current oil consumption. We didn't kill all the horses because we started driving cars. There will be be things that still need oil, but most cars won't and cars are about 70% of today's oil market.
