Love the pic https://bsky.app/profile/mamasissiesays.bsky.social/post/3lfg3ug3k722w Whoever runs The Carter Center socials & the photographer that captured this shot are national HEROES. There is something so beautifully poetic about a narcissist being eclipsed by a statue of someone else 😭3 points

That’s what happened to Ashli Babbit and she took a bullet on Jan 6.2 points

I've long felt Freehan should get more attention. His resume is very impressive. As important and Kaline, Horton, Lolich etc were, Freehan was a consistent rock for those teams2 points

I blame reality TV, it's conditioned Americans to be incapable of social shame. Every previous generation of Americans would have been too embarrassed by Trump to elect him to anything, but we have a society apparently rotting from the inside out, that's now become incapable of maintaining even a modicum of self-respect.1 point

tom gores demanded that his team build around andre drummond and trade picks (that became shai) so he could get blake griffin's last gasp in order to do it. if we DONT make a stupid "8th seed or bust" trade i'll be shocked. the thing is, the bottom of the east is tanking HARD. and some of the good teams are really beat up. they dont have to make a trade to contend for the play in. they will almost assuredly make it unless cade goes down. dont ruin it by trading for someone's problem. use that cap space wisely. accumulate assets and draft well. that will get you where you want to be.1 point

The thing to remember is Cade just turned 23 this season. He'll get better. Shai's 4th season when he was 23 years old: .453 FG% .300 3P% .514 2PG% .496 eFG% .810 FT% 5.0 REB 5.9 AST 1.3 STL 0.8 BLK 2.8 TOV 24.5 PTS Cade's 4th (effectively 3rd) season at 23 years old: .457 FG% .376 3P% .497 2PG% .518 eFG% .792 FT% 6.6 REB 9.3 AST 0.9 STL 0.8 BLK 4.3 TOV 24.3 PTS Difference is that Shai's team had a real GM (and some assets to trade), so they've built something around Shai that can contend. The Pistons have Cade...1 point

Keion Brooks Jr signed a 2 way with Pelicans. I went to high school with his Dad and my best man’s son played together with Keion at our same high school. Hope he gets into a game.1 point

I know many such people. They died in 2015 - 2017 but live like the zombies in The Walking Dead or the pod people from Invasion Of The Body Snatchers if you want to use an older reference. Their next step is indeed actual death as they will never return to what they used to be.1 point

It is ironic that Baines apparently got in on longevity only, yet as Lee points out, Whitaker doesn't get a nibble. I heard it said LaRussa had lobbied hard for Baines - I have no idea how much influence that accounted for. After Sparky passed there certainly wasn't anyone in ranks of Tiger management or FO with the stature to have much influence on voters - at least until Dombrowski, and I don't remember anything about DD being interested in Lou's HOF cause. I don't know where the cut off should be, or if there needs to any kind of strict one, but I think we almost go overboard with cumulative counting stats now. I think if a player clearly dominates his position for 7-10 years that's a memorable and impactful player and I have no problem with players like that being voted in - which is exactly what should have gotten Freehan in.1 point

I am sure he is considering that and would want to bring in someone who he thought worked well with young players. He also surely realizes that team chemistry is not always sustainable from year to year if you don't have enough talent. Hinch actually suggested that in the inerview with him and Harris early in the off-season.1 point

Man, this winning streak really puts the L in Lalonde. He will never get another head coaching gig.1 point

I don’t have any real skin in this contest and I don’t much like any team from Texas but anyone who beats Ohio State is OK to me.1 point

I don't think there is any evidence that playing for the Yankees helps somone get into the Hall of Fame. Every team has some questionable players in the HoF including the Tigers - Morris and Kell. I don't think Lemon belongs, but I do agree he is underrated. He is another one like Whitaker who never had a stand out season.1 point

Yes. Especially relative to other catchers. I think he suffered in voting because later in his career and after we saw some very good catchers like Bench and Fisk and Munson, Carter, etc. and he played in an offensively depressed era. Not unlike Trammell with Ripken as a peer then later you get Nomar and ARod and Jeter redefining the position.1 point

After nearly 30 years after its publication date, I finally read the book, The Millionaire Next Door. Out of curiosity I asked for it as a gift suggestion and received it Christmas. I’d guess I’m probably the last one here to read it. Enjoyed the book. Obviously some things have changed since its publication but an awful lot of things have remained the same. Over the years this has been one of the most financial related books mentioned through all my related readings.1 point

If you've ever watched the dynamics between men vs between women in the workplace, they are different, and I don't imagine that even in the rarefied air of SCOTUS, in the end, things are so different than the rest of the world in that regard. I will venture the supposition that over time the three women on the court will have more influence on each other, despite any initial ideological differences, than the male members of the court generally have on each other.1 point

Chill Trajan, Chill. A .500 team shouldn't make him stray away from the long term plan. The Pistons still need to build an asset base to make a real impactful move in the next year or two, that time is not now and Ingram certainly isn't that guy.1 point

Sabathia belongs. Whitaker belongs too. Being private does not help, but I think the main reason Whitaker is not in the Hall of Fame is because he never had an elite season which is what people remember. I don't believe there is any other player with 75 WAR who never had huge MVP or near MVP season. What he did have was more very good years than almost any middle infielder ever. His consistency and durability was truely remarkable and Hall of Fame worthy.1 point

A couple years back my friend took his then 13 yr old son to see Steph, ended up ponying up for Courtside seats and everything. Of course Steph ended up sitting but my friend's son brought a sign saying something to the effect of Steph being his fave player and when Steph saw it he came over and signed some things and talked to my friend and his son. Really cool gesture and something he didn't have to do.1 point

During one of our Christmas season gatherings, one of my nephews mentioned he was taking an art class. He's done brass work and sculpture but never really tried portraits. He was looking for some subjects for class. My wife sent him a picture of our son, who's about his age, and he did a great job. He then asked for a shot of our grand son. This is what we got. It's now been framed and ready to be hung1 point
