AHL is definitely a developmental league, and I know a big part of Soderblom playing well this season was that Auston Watson took him under his wing in GR, showing him how to play harder and more physical. I honestly had written off Soderblom until part way through this season when it seemed like something clicked. Kasper only played one season of AHL after recovering from a broken knee (that happened in the NHL, I feel like many people forget that the Wings brought him over and played him in Detroit before Grand Rapids). Johansson only spent two seasons in Grand Rapids and it definitely helped him get accustomed to NA ice and game play. I know we all want our prospects now but I'm not sure we should be upset about Johansson and Edvinsson already playing 20+ minutes a night and Kasper fitting in well on the first line. Seems like their development has been alright to me? Something I forgot about too is how young Kasper is, only ~4 months older than Danielson.

It's true that a third of the people love the theater, but the other two-thirds who would normally object to it are getting too distracted by too many outrages all at once.

It's not a nationwide scandal because Trump is employing a strategy that can be alternately called "the fire hose" and "shock and awe": flood us with so much terrible stuff on so many fronts all at once that we can't possibly unite to focus on what to fight back on or even object to. There are too many things in too many areas going on for us to unite and push back on any single one. And any time there is traction on any one issue, they merely introduce a new outrage into the system, and we all chase that like dogs after a squirrel. And so our attentions are fragmented and nothing controls for very long, because with every new outrage—and there will be at least one new outrage every day—we leave the old outrages behind, no more attention is paid to them, and the regime can complete their work on those. And this strategy totally working, because it has always worked. That's why it's not stupid, even as its unconstitutional and (for the moment) illegal.

Nope. Red state red hats will not band together with their neighbors and rise up against MAGA overreach by the government. They will simply turn on each other to eliminate local rivals, and then look for opportunities to plunder what's left behind. That's how it has always worked throughout history. It may be unconstitutional and technically illegal, but what it's not is stupid. They know what they're doing, and they have help architecting the whole thing from benefactors who have 800+ years experience in doing the same thing.

This has always been the end goal: controlling ordinary, everyday people utterly and completely. What they are allowed to do, what they are not allowed to do, and just as importantly, what they must be compelled to do. The new regime can't achieve its goals without knowing exactly what each and everyone else of us are doing at all times, and they can't do that without ubiquitous surveillance. And not just electronic surveillance, either, although that will be a large part of it. They will also rely heavily on the word of snitches on the inside of various institutions: local and state government, media, academia, civic institutions, unions, private employers, charities, utilities, social media forums, all of it. They are already pushing for that inside the government today—my guess is that media will be next. Nothing will be too small for them to root out we they call Marxists, which will eventually encompass anyone who did not vote for Trump, and that includes most of us.

Think I'm with Buddha on this one. If a first is offered I would move Beasley. Losing him for the rest of the year helps us tank and lose enough to keep our pick. Getting the extra pick is big for a team with such little talent like Detroit. Also, I'm always leery of a guy having a career year in a contract year. Trading him doesn't do anything to change their odds on bringing him back next year. They can offer the same amount of money and terms either way. His swing rates both in and out of the zone were pretty much career highs for him last season. Increased swing rate out of zone could be loss of pitch recognition, increase swing rate in the zone just sounds like taking a more aggressive approach. So why? If he's trying to hit more HRs, you'd think he'd be more selective looking for pitches to drive. I would hope that if a team is putting over $100M on the table they have looked at the film and statcast data of every AB for his last couple of years trying to answer those exact questions. This is the other half of what all the analytics capability is supposed to work for. And then, even if you think you know what he isn't or isn't doing differently, you have to project what that may mean in terms of his future value and what you are willing pay for it. There are some places in the game that I think the value of analytics may be oversold a bit, but not this one. Saving a $100M mistake is worth a lot of analyst salaries!

trey lance was traded for a 4th round pick. kenny pickett plus a 4th round pick was traded for a third round pick and a pair of 7th rounders. those were both former first round picks who failed. both are also younger than hooker, trey lance is much younger. not sure hooker would net more than either of those guys. is it worth giving up on him for a 6th round pick or a chance to exchange a 5th to move up into the 4th? not sure. we dont see him in practice every day. i'd rather just ride with hooker and see if he pans out as a decent backup.

it doesnt matter what program he plays at, he's still going to be a top pick in the nfl draft. the young man should make as much money as he can now. if that's a raise from ohio state or a raise from usc or a raise from alabama, he should take it.

I realize I am biased, since I am an Ohio State fan, but I can't see where he would be better off anywhere else, in either the short term or the long term. He's with a program that features him, has ample NIL, and churns out NFL WR talent like no one else. Any NIL offer from another program would have to be 3x what OSU can provide to even consider it. I don't even think the change at QB really factors in. If there are any concerns at all with Sayin (and I don't think there really are), they would just go get another Howard.

But a starting pitcher has a lot more impact in the games he is in than any position players does in any single game. I think the WAR guys probably have hit it fairly close. By WAR, Skubal was the most valuable player for the Tigers in 2024 (6.3) and Riley was behind him (5.4) despite having appeared in 4.5x more games. I would judge reluctance to offer pitchers the same kinds of contracts a position players related more to the injury risk than to belief they don't have as much impact.

The win percentage is just a small portion of what he's been able to do. Taking a franchise that had the history of ineptitude and change the culture in such a short period is his biggest highlight. This was not a franchise that was at about its lowest it could be. The only asset was an older star QB which he did use in a brilliant way even if they didn't think Goff was going to be this good. He is the biggest factor in taking a team that was a laughing stock to one of the top franchises and for years to come.

I wouldn't trade Stew and Holland straight up for those two. No way am I tossing in picks as well.

It's a lot of carelessness. You can usually find multiple times per game that looks like Cade is fixing games. He isn't obviously, I'm just saying the TO's look really comical at times. Do they need a secondary ball handler? Absolutely. But lets not pretend Cade didn't have the exact same issue when Ivey was still healthy, and he's a darn good secondary ball handler. They need more people that can hurt teams. Cade is our offensive cruise missile. Beasley is a nice bazooka. Everyone else is a cap gun that you played with as a 5 year old. With Ivey out Cade doesn't have a single player in the starting lineup that has a legit shot at a 50 point game. They might not have a legit shot at a guy who could get 40. Look at the this. THJ - 40 games played scored 20+ 4 times or 10% of his games. Zero 30, 40, 50 point games. Harris - 42 games played scored 20+ 5 times or 12% of his games. Zero 30, 40, 50 point games. Duren - 41 games played scored 20+ Zero times. Zero 30, 40, 50 point games. Thompson - 22 games played scored 20+ zero times. Zero 30, 40, 50 point games. He started last nights game with two guys that have yet to have a single game where they scored 20 points. Combined, the 4 guys he started with have scored >20 points in a game exactly 9 times. They had a 6% chance of having a starter other than Cade go for 20 points. Those 4 guys have almost no shot at hurting you even if most of your defensive attention is on Cade. FWIW, Beasley has played 44 games and gone for over 20 points 17 times. The problem with that is, in the 1423 minutes Cade has played, only 732 have been with Beasley.

I would guess that is exactly why they made that trade. I think any Butler trade involving Detroit will need a 4th team. Butler and Beal are close enough to trade by themselves. But Miami doesn't want Beal, so you need the third team. Problem is, Beal has a no trade clause and he isn't waiving it to come to Detroit. Bring in the 4th team, say Milwaukee. Phoenix can't take the Bucks players because they are taking Butler. Miami doesn't want a bunch of extra salary because they are looking for the quick rebuild around Herro and Bam. You have to find somewhere for the Bucks salary to land. Detroit does it for a 1st rounder. Or some other team.
