Regardless of your thoughts on the Gaza conflict, the case of Khalil should be chilling to all of us. It’s someone that has committed no crime, in this country legally, that is being detained due to having an opinion that differs from the administrations.5 points

Eggs are but one item in the store and there is a specific variable that's driving the pricing wonky. I can look past that. But the promises of expedited lowered prices across the store is null and void.3 points

John McHale and Randy Smith were highly qualified. After all, their dads were famous baseball executives. Smith was quoted as saying the park was designed for a team to play more of a "National League style", lots of bunting and triples and stuff. Makes sense, in a city whose teams had been defined by power hitting for decades. Randy Smith tucks his shirt into his underpants.2 points

My wife spent some time dealing with the Tigers front office during the end of his time there. (She managed the radio broadcast network, that was a small part of her job). Let's just say he was an interesting person2 points

He was a bow-tie wearer, was he not. That's a choice. You can either be a novelist of antebellum romance or a male stripper if you affect that look.2 points

I gave up on Tork and Mize. I'd consider either of them turning it around to be a huge bonus, let alone both of them.2 points

John Feinstein, the man who wrote the book has passed. He was 69. Too young https://golfweek.usatoday.com/story/sports/golf/pga/2025/03/13/john-feinstein-dead-68-wrote-numerous-golf-books/82372340007/1 point

I read an article about Canadians having "Trump anxiety". It is weird to be attacked. We've always been the likeable buddy who jumps in when friend gets attacked but otherwise get along with everyone.1 point

Haha. Another benefit of bullpen chaos is they can keep him on an innings limit and not have to shut him down in July.1 point

Jobe Ks two in the second. But yeah, we need to send him down to Toledo and pamper his ass, right? I’m gonna go all High Plains Drifter on the next person that suggests this.1 point

They did for a time. Don't remember how long. The White Sox did also prior to the Orioles. Edited to add. The Giants were first from 1924-1927. The Red Sox were in Sarasota from 1933-1959, the White Sox from 1960-1997 - with Ed Smith Stadium being built in 1989. The Reds were there from 1998-2009. The Orioles have been there since then.1 point

Barring injury to somebody he wouldn't play everyday but I think with Keith still taking reps at 2nd you could find enough ABs for Tork between 1st and DH. Basically any one of Torres, Keith or Carp off day and Tork could get in the lineup.1 point

This kind of hits at the fatal flaw in their thinking... They have assumed that their threats (and actions) will ratchet up pressure on Canadian and European governments and will automatically bring them to heel. Instead, they are basically causing rally around their flag effects elsewhere while, at home, our population is divided at best on the tariffs, and outright against conquests into Canada (in like the -60 to -70 range) Their hubris will be our downfall as a country IMO1 point

I don't get what's so special about MAGA's "America first". We have ALWAYS been America first. Everything we do is done with America in mind first even if it also helps other countries in some way.1 point

1.200 OPS in 33 AB. I wasn't that surprised they let a guy go that was still in AA and was going to be 25. I was surprised they hadn't moved him AAA last season - I guess they weren't seeing something they wanted despite the apparent turnaround with the bat.1 point

Casey still has command issues to iron out. By my informal count he was into the 2nd before he landed his first breaking ball for a strike. But he battle through the walks without losing his cool and that's progress too.1 point

Hate to be contrarian...but I think it's a wee bit early to say definitively what you have with either player or how they could fit together going forward. They're both talented players...good teams keep talented players. Plus...you have 144 minutes of basketball across the 3-4-5, that's a lot of minutes to spread around.1 point

The biggest part is how long birds are kept alive. Layers can live up to two years and broilers (meat birds) are slaughtered around the 7-week mark. So broilers do not have as much time to catch the virus. That also means layers are older and weaker, which could make it easier to catch the virus. You also have to consider how fast a farm can get back up and running after destroying their flock. Like I said, in 7 weeks, a broiler can be butchered. Layers can take up to 20 weeks to start producing eggs. So almost 3x as long to recover for egg producing farms vs meat farms.1 point

It would be ironic if the states with cage laws, which operators complained would cost them money, end up being the lowest total cost operators in the country in the bird flu setting. But of course, regulation bad, government bad.1 point

Blaha, while clearly way way past his prime, seems rejuvenated with his play calling this season much like we feel watching the team I'm sure. I just can't imagine watching the Pistons post-Blaha, man is a legend that's been through all of it.1 point

All those companies were put back on a working basis by the US and Allies after the war. VW for example was resurrected by a British Army major who needed the locals to have jobs so he got the factory going.1 point

Google tells me VW, Ford, Mercedes, GM, Nestle, IBM, Siemens, Chase, BASF, Bayer, and Bosch all were intertwined with Nazi Germany in some way. Every one of them still exists. They were involved with a regime that killed over 6 million people, and they exist like nothing happened. So no, I don't think Musk is in much danger there.1 point

Pitching chaos =Rowdy Roddy Piper saying "just when you think you have the answers...I change the questions"1 point

I believe pitching chaos was based on not having more than two pitchers who could reliably start game. I believe the effect of pitching chaos was to keep other teams off-balance and affect their ability to prepare for the game—to your point, not letting get hitters get comfortable.1 point

I sort of take the Luigi approach to how Tesla is being handled these days... I don't condone violence or harassment in regards to the brand, but it's also really hard to generate a lot of sympathy toward Tesla. Particularly as it's CEO is busy trying to wreck our government.1 point

I’m pretty confident Jobe will come in as a fourth starter, and that the fifth slot will be up to Mazda or Mize to win it. I think Mazda is the favorite since, believe it or not, Mize is still optionable.1 point

I hope Manning does alright for the Reds, Pirates, Marlins or A's I, like Gehringer_2, thought he might have been the best of the bunch a few years ago. We always love to rate how good our prospects are and all teams do, but if you look back through MLB history at any given year - out of a team's Top 10 prospects, if 3 of them wind up being above average Major League players then you are doing pretty well. I remember hearing the greatness of Mize, Manning and Skubal, but also thinking that in the real world, the best we can realistically hope for was one to really become a star. Skubal's the star, Mize is a 4th/5th starter and Manning is probably done as a Tiger. If we can get anything above average out of Mize, then we're doing really well.1 point

rather have him in toledo on starter's schedule then on a bullpen schedule1 point
