  1. Good thing he didn't get the job when Harris did, eh? Or the GM job when Greenberg was brought it.

  3. The key is winning 2 out of 3 at home and going .500 on the road. That's 95 wins right there. Winning 2 out 3 on the road. Keep that going...........

  5. You don't get anything from Trump without groveling and a little quid pro quo. She should have known that. No other governor got played like that. It only hurts her politically. She was going to have a tough go because there is a deep bench, but this really damaged her.

  6. Firing all the federal workers only saves a couple hundred billion. The workers themselves were (are?) a bargain at only $1000 or so per American. Of course (as almost everyone here knows) the only way to balance the budget, if it were a sincere and useful goal, is to return to 20th Century taxation or have huge reductions in Medicare, Social Security and military spending.

  7. Figured we could use this for anything not related to the Pistons. Four fantastic games on Saturday.

  8. First of all. Congratulations to the Pistons for one of the most impressive single-season turnarounds in Detroit history. Maybe the most impressive (certainly in my lifetime). They went from being an afterthought to stealing the spotlight from the much-loved Red Wings. Cade Cunningham is perhaps the biggest sports star in Detroit now. You can make arguments for St. Brown, Skubal and Hutch too. The Pistons have not played their best ball lately. Maybe they were resting guys (like the last game), and maybe they were strategically making sure they got the Knicks in the first round, but the last couple weeks were the iffiest in a long time, but this is a series they can absolutely win. But be ready - the NBA is not about crowning the best team as the champion, the NBA is about building ratings. Teams that face the Celtics, Knicks, Lakers and Warriors are going to a the court slightly tilted against them. The best two teams all season were Cleveland and Oklahoma City and that's a nightmare final for the NBA. They want the big markets in it. They want the superstars. For the Pistons to beat the Knicks or Celtics, they will have to outplay them, by a fairly wide margin because close games are not going to go their way. They're going to have to play just about as perfect as they can J.B. Bickerstaff is Coach Of The Year. He won't win it, but he should. Anyway, this is exciting.

  11. Just clicking stuff on the TV I saw that the Pirates - Nationals (Skenes starting by the way) game today was the free game of the day and their pregame show starts a whole hour before the game itself begins. I’m not sure the Tigers have enough TV talent to provide an entire hour of chitchat before a game. I’m not sure the Pirates TV crew has enough talent either. I turned off the sound and at one time it looked like they were doing the Macarena.

  15. 😅 I am chasing around an 18-month-old now, but honestly, the beginning of April is just a busy time at work. I usually do updates at the beginning of my workday, but overseas calls are getting in the way. I should be back with your tiger cub updates here shortly.

  16. Again, it was an 11 win jump. OKC was already a Championship contender last year, they just happened to be even better this season. Do you remember how bad the Pistons were last year? Maybe not because I do, they won 14 games last season and were solidly in the playoffs this season, one of the biggest one season jumps in league history. I don't know why you're diminishing that accomplishment a team, btw, that was missing their 2nd best player most of the season. I'm not saying that the other two aren't worthy candidates but what Bickerstaff has accomplished is a miracle quite frankly, those other guys had very good teams going into this season.

  19. I have a friend who is overweight. She knows it. I am pretty open about my prediabetes (recently upgraded to mild type 2) and was at her house for a cookout a couple years ago, but because it was burgers and Mac and cheese I said I would come out but eat at home. She said something about how she was trying to lose weight and was using organic ground beef for the burgers thinking that would help. Somebody else has pushed gluten free food on me (gluten free actually is usually bad for diabetics because whole wheat is replaced by simple carbohydrates). I just don't think people have a fundamental understanding of nutrition and buy into the buzzwords out there. Anyways, I like to cook and like to exercise, so there are worse afflictions to have...

  21. And I don't see where she "groveled". She's a governor of a state impacted by tariffs and he's the president. She shouldn't ignore him. Senators have different jobs. They don't govern states.

  22. A little shocked by how much credit OG is getting on defense against Cade this series. I think Cade is going to cook OG. Especially if they single cover him.

  23. They were a 57 win team the season prior. Bickerstaff led a 14 win team to 44 wins and that's without their 2nd best offensive player the entire second half of the season. How that doesn't warrant coach of the year is beyond me.

  25. I was moving back to Michigan from New Mexico on March 26, 1997. The Wings-Avs game was on that night, the one the big fight, the night the Wings really won the Stanley Cup. I was driving in Missouri and listening on WJR - clear as a bell.

  26. I am an Eagle Scout (once an Eagle, always an Eagle they say). Our troop was in a small town with a great leader and program that probably can't be duplicated now. Most every kid who stuck with it attained the rank. My son tried scouts, just wasn't his interest. I probably wasn't much help since my work hours at the time conflicted with troop events. I was also a bit critical of the adult leadership at the time (30 plus years ago). Times change and scouting has tried to keep up. I guess being Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Brave, Clean and Reverent is considered to the antithesis of the current group of our nation's leaders.

  28. I remember years ago when I had long drives in the middle of the night and in the middle of nowhere in the wide empty spaces of mountain west the only thing on AM radio I could get was Garner Ted Armstrong since FM was unreliable. Sometimes I could pick up radio broadcasts where they presented old radio show dramas from the 40s and 50s and depending upon how the mountains affected the signal it would wane in and out of audibility. In Montana, I could pick up stray broadcasts from places like Kansas City, which were pretty far away.

  29. I rented a car yesterday and had a 2 hr 45 min drive from the airport, starting with the Tigers down 2-0 in the 3rd inning. So the game took me much of the way then after that listened to Sirius XM’s Masters broadcast. Golf on the radio, can’t say I’ve done that more than a couple of times in my life.

  30. notes from sean shapiro on hisvisit to GR. the gane wasnt very good for GR. they lost 4-1. Nate Danielson, Grand Rapids Griffins, C — It was a quiet game for Danielson, he had a neutral zone turnover I didn’t like, but there are lots of the foundations in place to be an NHL contributor. I’m still not sold on him being a reliable point producer at the NHL level, and I might be wrong, but he has a game I’d like to see deployed with better players — not AHL veterans like Tim Gettinger or Joe Snively. Amadeus Lombardi, Grand Rapids Griffins, C — Lombardi grew with the game and there are some really exciting elements to his game. The puck protection and skills are pretty notable, and I like how his hands can match his feet. These are not observations, but rather noting something I’ve seen all year with Lombardi. I spoke to someone from with in the Red Wings recently, who noted that Lombardi probably would have played NHL games this season if had been better dialed in defensively. And, honestly, with Detroit out of the playoffs I wouldn’t mind seeing him play for the Red Wings later this week. Anton Johansson, Grand Rapids Griffins, D — My first in-person viewing of Johansson and he can be a pretty smooth operator with the puck on his stick. There are a couple plays where he skated himself out of trouble, delayed, and created space for others. There was some messiness in his game defensively, which might be part of the North American transition learning curve. Emmitt Finnie, Grand Rapids Griffins, LW — Finnie played on the wing in this game and he setup the Griffins only goal, a play down the wing on the rush where he teed up Gabriel Seger for a goal. Finnie kind of grew with the game, which seems reflective of his career arc. Finnie is fascinating to me because I’m not sure whether he’s actually improving or he’s simply getting older and matching up to his age. Again, I don’t know, but I’m curios to watch it. Shai Buium, Grand Rapids Griffins, D — Buium is nothing like his brother. While Zeev Buium dominates the puck and the attention of the game, you have to focus on Shai Buium to understand while he’ll have a decent pro career. So that’s why I did some isolated viewing of Buium in the third period, focusing only on him during his shifts, to watch some of the small details and calm demeanor in a chaotic game. He’s a third-pairing defender in the making, not a shutdown guy, but he’s exactly what I’d want long-term on my defensive depth as someone you can roll out in all situations if needed. Sebastian Cossa, Grand Rapids Griffins, G — It was a frustrating viewing for me on Cossa because all the raw tools are obvious, he made a tremendous pad save on a 2-on-1 by Texas, but some of the decision making continues to be baffling. His misplay on a Texas dump-in eventual led to the first goal on extended zone time by Texas. I guess my thing with Cossa is this — if he’s such a great athlete, and he is, he needs to be better about using those tools. If he can channel the raw parts of his game, he can be a bona fide No. 1 in the NHL. If he can’t, he’s probably nothing more than an NHL backup/quad-A goalie. Amongst Red Wings prospects, Cossa, to me, has one of the highest boom/bust pendulums and I have no idea which way it’ll end.
