It was only 9 months ago that Baltimore's rebuild was considered to be miles ahead of the Tigers.4 points

With no game tonight, here for your viewing pleasure are 34 beatiful minutes of color footage from the 1968 season. This is similar to, but different than, the Year of the Tiger audio album that is loaded with Ernie Harwell and Ray Lane radio PBP. This is more Harwell narration than play by play.2 points

I never thought managers mattered all that much. Last year has me rethinking that assumption, at least a little.2 points

Hot take: Errors are dumb and should be eliminated. If the batter puts the ball in play and reaches base it should be a hit.2 points

It's always hard to tell with him, because I don't think he distinguishes between truth and reality. He just says what will get a favorable reaction from his cult.1 point

Agreed, it sucks we have guys like Danielson, Lombardi, Mazur, Plante, Cossa and Augustine in our pipeline!1 point

I don't believe him. It's part of his narcissism. His self esteem is so low, he can never be wrong and it also makes him act grandiose to compensate. He will never be wrong. Preferably it's someone else's fault but if not he's just kidding.1 point

That's why I think mass protests are important. Right now, the Republicans feel as if they can just gaslight the nation and everything will go the way they want. If they know the public is on to them, it won't be so easy.1 point
-
Maybe the current crop of Democratic leaders won’t dig us out of that, but the people who do dig us out are probably going to have to come to that through the Democratic Party, because ultimately this is a two-party power system, and it’s not going to come through Republicans by magic.1 point

BPA isn't an exact science. BPA usually means BPA on their board (not Mel Kipers board) and I am pretty sure most teams make those boards a lot on (starter) need because who they focus on. If they were slim on corner they probably would of interviewed more corners and therefore had more corners on their board like they did last year. I also think the media and people posting obsess with comments about GM's drafting for need. You also have to adapt to the position your in. When your rebuilding, you also have the luxury of true BPA. When your a top team, BPA is something different. If I could be a fly, I would be more interesting in knowing where everyone was on their board and the comments for each of those players. Like was Mike Green or James Pierce on their board with an asterisk? What did they think of the players that were drafted before their pick and what grade was a player like Graham, Grant, or Nolan compared to Williams. Was their someone that they wanted that they tried to trade up to get because they were in a higher tier. Stuff like that is more interesting to me. I am usually more interested in previous coaches and GM's points of view compared to Kiper.1 point

I wasn't surprised at all by the pick. DC had made a comment during a press conference that they don't expect Alim McNeill back until later in the season, making the Lions very thin at the 3 technique.1 point

right. as soon as michigan's season turned south, he got too injured to play. sure jan. most likely, his slow 40 time and constant ability to get burned by double moves dropped his stock. he's big and not fast and doesnt like to tackle. he's a zone corner in the nfl.1 point

Does it really matter if you draft him 28th or 46th? The Lions don't draft again until 60th and there may not have been a good trade.1 point

theyre going to need defensive tackles after this year, so in that way it makes sense to get one. the lions value run stuffers more than most teams in the league, so that males sense too. like a couple years ago with gibbs and campbell, the lions like who they like and dont seem to care about traditional positional rankings. and for the bpa crowd: the lions took a position of need in defensive tackle. i assume he was one of the top players on their board, but this is a position of need.1 point

kmet is a very average tight end who is overrated by chicago media. let us not forget, much of the chicago media had the bears winning "at least 9" games the last TWO seasons. including their announcer saying "i dont see less than 11 wins on the schedule" two years ago. the bears are always overrated. they will be again this year.1 point

So many critical blown calls, starting with the KAT 2 hand shove to Ausar’s face, in a 2 pt game. Great job securing those ratings.1 point

Refs just won’t allow a basketball game to happen. 58 secs in and 2 fouls already. Make it 3 70 secs in. This is impossible to watch. It’s just refs calling fouls.1 point

It's the Trey Sweeneys that are one of the things that separate good orgs from bad ones. There solid players out there all the time and some teams identify them and get them, and other teams don't, and it's the strength in the middle and bottom of a team's line-up that is usually made up of those players that make for winning teams.1 point

Remember when major leaguers left their gloves on the field while they came up to bat? Neither do I. And neither do you unless you're at least 80, because the rule requiring players to bring their gloves off the field was adopted during the winter of 1953-54. But, as with every rule change, there was vociferous opposition by the conservatives in the game. Well, going into 1954, those conservatives included the American League itself, which voted 7-1 to not require their teams to enforce the new rule. They objected partially on the basis of it never hurt anyone before (dubious claim), but, also, on the basis that it would unnecessarily delay games. Why, just imagine a player stranded on second base with the third out. All he had to do is trot to his glove just a few feet away and he's ready to go. But noooo ... now he's got to trudge all the way back to the dugout to get his glove and then go back out to his position in the field. Can you imagine how much time that will take?? Why, ball games will balloon to three hours if we make players take their gloves into the dugouts with them!1 point

This is often the case with good franchises that are contending for the postseason every year. It’s another nice sign the organization is turning the corner.1 point

I will say there isn't a whole lot to be excited about between Erie and Toledo. In Erie you have Melton, Hamm, Liranzo maybe Anderson. Miller is an interesting pitching prospect and will be interesting to see if he makes it as a RP or SP. I could see him going the Beau Brieske route. Campos is young, but until I see him lift the ball more, I just don't have a ton of confidence in him. Toledo, you have Hao-Yu Lee, Manning, Montero, and some interesting RPs, but that's about it. The real fun is WM and Lakeland. I am very interested in some of the high school pitchers they have drafted and how they are going forward. Rucker, Rainer, Franyerber in Lakeland will be reasons to watch for sure.1 point

I continue to be amazed at how differently I feel about the draft vs. just a few years ago. I mean the draft used to be this HUGE thing. We'd all be speculating... wondering about trades, thinking who might fall a few spots. Hoping the next first round pick in the top 10 (where the Lions often picked) was going to be the savior of the franchise. Now I keep forgetting that the draft starts Thursday. Look at our 2022 Draft thread: https://www.motownforums.com/topic/99-2022-nfl-draft-thread/page/58/#comments More than 57 pages of posts BEFORE the draft started! Now, 1.5 days from the start of this years draft and we don't even have 10 pages yet. I know the old joke was always about how the Draft was the Lions' Super Bowl... but man... being on the "other side" now (ie, having a good team) it feels like there really was a lot of truth to that joke.1 point
