We just got our Softball all-star tournament cancelled due to rain which means I can spend the day playing Baldur's Gate and MLB-the Show and not watching parents lose their minds at umpires.3 points

My first date with my wife was a Tiger game in September 1990. I was 16 and she was 17. It rained and we cuddled in the bleachers under the scoreboard that had a bit of cover. I figured if she can’t handle that then what’s the point.3 points

When the ball beats you by about 10 steps, it’s not a good send. Could have been 2nd and 3rd with no outs.2 points

yeah - that was pretty much the one mistake they made as a team tonight. Montero is interesting. He doesn't seem to have particularly great stuff but he sure hangs in there.2 points

This one has a chance to be very different since it’s on the same day as Trump’s $100M May Day Parade. People are turning out in mass all across the country while Trumps event will be sparsely populated. It will be an easy litmus test on where the country stands on his policies. Hopefully, it will energize the opposition again and scare the **** out of maga.1 point

Good luck ever getting MAGA to answer this question. They know you're right, but will never admit it.1 point

bah - I hope Tork gets in this one at some point - I thought he had great ABs yesterday.1 point

Because the whole GOP immigration shtick has always been a joke - red meat to the proles with no intent to ever actually change the status quo and upset the system of cheap labor US business depends on. But now they find themselves with an idiot true believer like Miller having wormed his way into leverage and the real powers that be are starting to let Trump know that he can have all the rhetoric and show deportations he wants, but the actual removal numbers better never get serious.1 point

I keep asking this, yet MAGA seem too chicken to come to the forum with an answer1 point

From the Bullwerk The final risk to the military is that it won’t be taken seriously because service members are not viewed as public servants. At the lowest levels, this can look like the experience of Vietnam veterans, who weren’t given the support they needed to reintegrate back into civilian life. All of society benefits when veterans bring their strengths back home with them—and all of society sufferswhen they’re left to deal with their problems on their own. At the highest levels, senior military leaders have to be confident that their civilian bosses will consider their best professional advice. If those civilian bosses have reason to believe that advice has a partisan bias, the result could be bloody disaster. If Trump really supported the troops, he’d help them do their jobs and reintegrate back into civilian life when their service is over. But as his parade so obviously demonstrates, he’s really only interested in the troops supporting him. https://www.thebulwark.com/p/the-real-costs-of-trump-parade?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email1 point

I looked into a rally near me and it appears to be a gathering at the corner of an intersection. I support the cause but I vowed long ago to never be a sign carrying roadside picketor. I can’t stand those people.1 point

I love Bennetti and Dirks together, I think they have good chemistry together. It cracks me up when Dirks calls him "Bennetti", and I think they are both funny. I hate to say it but Steve Stone was boring. So is Petry, although he's best after the games.1 point

LOL - I"m geting dyslexic in old age. I looked at that and didn't see any that lined up. What was funny is the article never mentions Jake at all before the mis-reference. Taylor Rogers's name appears, but that's as close as it comes. The writer (not credited) had to have done an edit in the sentence about the pitcher and left "Rogers" on his clipboard, then pulled it back in place of Greene's name lower down without noticing, but still bush league to miss that proofread. Or may the first idea was the pitcher Rogers' name was originally going to figure in the Key Stat choice. I though they might have fixed it by now, but nope....1 point

There's a local neighborhood app called NextDoor. Political talk is kinda frowned upon, it leads to huge flame wars. I went on there today and somebody posted a link to all of the "No King Rallies" in Michigan tomorrow. I didn't count them but there was at least a dozen. They're happening all over the country. We'll see if the media covers them. And it was a surprise, a hundred responses and no MAGA. Usually they come out of the woodwork, thus the flame wars. 😆1 point

Yankees and Mets both have lost so the Tigers have the best record in the AL by 2.5 games and the best record in MLB by 0.5 game.1 point

He a good end of the starting rotation pitcher. Has good stuff but seems to struggle the 3rd time thru a lineup. The opener strategy is really good for him it seems.1 point

Looking on Stubhub, you can pick them up for under $400 each for tomorrow's game so I could see them dropping below $200 depending on who was in town.1 point

They sell different packages but they’re not selling single game seats and the prices I’ve seen quoted her for the various packages between $10,000 and $20,000. But I haven’t paid very close attention because to me that might as well be like buying a ticket to go into space1 point

Not sure about DC, but much of the NE has had 12 Saturdays in a row with rain. How evil am I to wish for a whole day of cold, wind driven rain tomorrow? There's a chance of rain here, but only for the morning....1 point

Ivey was projected to have the better ceiling if all went in his favor, which is why you take him. I think it was still the right pick. He's dealt with a train wreck of a coach/franchise and was just starting to show his value when the Orlando Rollerderby took him down, so we'll have to see how things go this year. As for a straight up trade right now, their offensive numbers are actually about the same. Ivey is the better 3 point shooter and Mathurin is the better finisher. Mathurin also has a chance to become a more versatile defender due to his size, but he really isn't a good defender right now either. I wouldn't make the trade because I think Mathurin has had more time to show what he is and that picture is becoming clearer, while I think Ivey is just as good offensively right now but still has the higher ceiling. That's doesn't mean I wouldn't package Ivey in a trade for an All-Star Forward, but either way I value him higher than Mathurin.1 point

I like Benetti and Dirks. A lot. It takes me back to Josh Lewin and Gibby. The nerd and the jock. Jasons quickness and vast knowledge of a wide range of pop culture always amazes me. I’m quite certain that some of his references go right over a lot of peoples heads. My brain operates in a similar fashion: when someone says something and i immediately have some movie quote or pop culture reference pop up. I don’t normally have the audience to verbalize them and, when I occasionally do, it has to be someone who gets it.1 point
-
The thing is, his playfullness isn't forced. I think he's just a well read pop culture guy who's mind works that way. He could have had a career in morning radio back when that was a big thing. The drops. The quick cuts to something related to the subject. His makes his references too fast for me to think they are planned or scripted. It's just what pops in his head.1 point

Game 2 had the lowest ratings for a game 2 since 1988. But maybe we're looking at this wrong. Sunday's game was still the highest rated thing on TV for the entire weekend. And its ratings were 50% higher than #2. People don't watch as much TV as they once did.1 point
