  7. Internal thought on Monday: Brieske and Lange could return soon and fortify the bullpen. Yesterday Lange had a setback and Brieske walked 3 and gave up 5 in .2IP.

  17. Somebody I have my eye on is Mike Soroka of the Nationals. Yes at first glance you see his ERA is above 5 but that doesn't tell the whole story. He has an xERA at 3.19 which is elite, has elite K% along with BB%. Also has been pitching better of late. I would gamble on things correcting themselves and him getting luckier in the second half. Also last year when put in relief he excelled with a 2.75 ERA and 15 k/9, so even if we don't need him as a starter in the playoffs he could be the swing and miss guy we desperately need out of the bullpen. Also just 27 so somebody that we could look to keep if he performs well down the stretch.

  20. I haven’t read this entire thread so if I missed this information too bad. I just wanted to know about the Erie Seawolves name change and how long or how many times they would use this name so I looked it up. The Erie SeaWolves, will not be changing its name for only one game. They are temporarily rebranding as the Erie Moon Mammoths for four games during the season: July 19, August 19, September 12, and September 13.

  21. I was curious to see how Franyerber had done since Rainer went down with his season-ending injury. Honestly, for a little over a month, he has been on a tear. Quick side note, he is running a .448 BABIP so definitely not sustainable but the numbers are pretty fantastic .354/.433/.544 12% BB rate while K'ing 21%. I get why they pushed Hadeen up as he is a little older and you would like that K rate below 20 but still think they should have pushed Franyerber up to A+. Even with his slump in May he still has a 125 wRC+ on the season.

  23. Maybe the tiers are simple, but the once you start in with Bird, Early Bird, Non-Bird exceptions, Mid-Level Exceptions (Non-Taxpayer, Taxpayer, and the Bi-Annual Exception, the value of expiring contracts, etc., etc. your simplicity goes right past the board like a half-court airball trey. 🧩

  24. <Cough cough> this is what I predicted. Even though Skubal was scheduled to pitch Saturday it makes sense to ensure that he gets an extra days rest before the All-Star game and the Tigers get the exposure on national TV that is good for them.

  26. Yes, that is a problem. I don't think it's a good mainstream stat. To your other point, I don't think defensive ability necessarily changes so much year to year, but it's very possible that the small sample performance that we see does vary a lot. Defenders are much like relievers in that they don't have a large sample size of difficult plays over a season.

  27. So it makes sense that positional value of LF is lower in general, but does a guy get dinged for being a LF at COPA, which has higher positional value than most other parks? Aside from that, can't disagree Riley has a noodle arm.

  29. Skenes is the second best pitcher in baseball and he's got 4 more years until free agency. I don't know if any pitcher with that much value and team control has ever been traded before, so we don't know how much he's worth. I don't think it's ridiculous for the Pirates to expect multiple bluechip prospects in return for him. Regardless of his value though, I would not want the Tigers to do that. I'd rather they keep their best position prospects rather than roll the dice on one big pitching prize. I think there is little chance of the Pirates trading him anyway.

  30. Someone needs to put an end all this foolishness of the Toronto Blue Jays, who have won 10 games in a row and are just as dangerous as the Astros in snatching the bye away from us. Can’t depend on boys to do a man’s job, but fortunately we face them after the end of the All-Star game for four games July 24-28.

  35. Good Holton is such a big plus for this team. A permanent return to good Holton, the addition of Lee, and the eventual addition of Lange would be huge for this BP. Still would love to see an 8th/9th inning guy brought in at the deadline to pair with Kahnle and Vest, but things starting to come together for that unit.

  44. ESPN today But Skenes is a pitcher -- and pitchers get hurt. So, if the Pirates are open to listening ... Offer No. 1: New York Mets offer SS/CF Jett Williams (No. 20), RHP Jonah Tong (No. 50), RHP Nolan McLean, IF Ronny Mauricio, OF Carson Benge Offer No. 2: Los Angeles Dodgers offer C/OF Dalton Rushing (No. 14), OF Josue De Paula (No. 17), IF Alex Freeland, RHP Emmet Sheehan, LHP Jackson Ferris Offer No. 3: Detroit Tigers offer OF Max Clark (No. 8), SS Kevin McGonigle (No. 11), RHP Jackson Jobe, IF Colt Keith, RHP Sawyer Gipson-Long The one that could get it done: Tigers. A playoff rotation with Skenes and Tarik Skubal? Thank you very much. Reminder: The Tigers haven't won the World Series since 1984.

  45. I find myself, like others, doing a lot of scoreboard watching. In addition to seeing if the teams in our division lost, I also care about Houston and Yankees losing, so we can avoid the Wild Card round. I also want the Dodgers to lose so that we have supremacy over them. Also, I like seeing teams that are on the bubble for Wild Card contention in each league lose, so ideally there will be more sellers than buyers at the deadline. Basically, I want almost every team losing. And I want everything painted black, black as night.
