  1. One thing I do not like about the offense this year is the downgrading of David Montgomery. I believe he is one of the team’s tone setters. If there is a team you really want to bully, you need to have him in the lineup early and often. He only got four rushing attempts against KC. This is not enough.

  2. There’s no need for a DH. They already have Carpenter and Greene as offense first middling defensive corner OFs. And if I’m building a roster, I’m using DH as a partial day off for everyday position players. I think that can help alleviate some of the wear and tear of a roster, especially given the age of shorter outing pitchers clogging up half of the team.

  3. OK - so by the numbers, Assume Mize is Mize, Olson was 1.7 WAR in 68 IP. Can he be 3.7 WAR in 160? Jobe was 0.4 WAR in 50 IP, can he supply at least 1.4 in a full season? So you have 3.0 back. Can Melton be better than 2 WAR? That would be 5. Can they sign 2 WAR? I would think so. That would be and additional 7. Flahery was 1 WAR. If he stays he should be better, if he goes 1 WAR shouldn't be that hard to improve on. They have some assets, but they have to get them on the field and keep them off the IL. Harris hit that as a major emphasis, but I don't know what pitching health magic the Tigers think they can find that hasn't already been tried and failed. Because after Montero I'm not seeing much depth if people get hurt next season. Brieske? Madden, Guenther? 😑 Of course the flip side is that if Skubal is still here, with Olson back and Melton joining the staff, they could be the 95 win team we thought we had last season.

  4. I don’t think we are looking at missing the playoffs for 10 years by not trading Skubal. I think we have considerably more options of improving our team internally in 2027 and beyond than we do in 2026. So yes, losing Skubal will hurt, but it doesn’t mean no playoffs in 2027 or 2028 and beyond. Trading Skubal for prospects this offseason on the other hand, almost guarantees IMO we don’t have a chance in the playoffs (or likely getting there) in 2026. With him, we are the favorites in the Central. Without him, we are likely competing with Minnesota for 3rd in 2026. I also think it would extremely hurt the positive morale in the clubhouse as well as $ coming in from fans.

  7. he was put into a position he wasnt prepared to take. not his fault. warde manuel and jim harbaugh's fault. as g2 points out - not in these exact terms - the only thing jim harbaugh loves more than michigan football, is jim harbaugh.

  8. The only counterpoint I would make... With respect to Skubal, is that... He has tree trunk legs and drives his pitches with his legs... Just like Nolan Ryan. Which says NOTHING about Skubal's future potential longevity, or lack thereof... I'm just... Sayin'...

  13. A lot of teams are in the same boat. It is extremely difficult to hit. And every team not called the Dodgers has flaws.. Given everything, the Tigers were a shattered bat grounder to 3B by Javy away from getting to the ALCS. I agree it's not a huge step forward, but with Skubal the Tigers are close. If Harris trades Skubal, that's a step backward.

  14. My dad lost all hearing in one ear as a toddler from a disease like this, before vaccines were available. That's the world the "Children's Defect Fund" wants, I guess. The question is, will we accept this?

  15. I agree wholeheartedly. I just think sacrificing 2026 for 2027-2037 is worth it in my eyes. But thats what makes it fun being a fan. We all have our perspectives. (That and I love prospects). Thanks for sharing your thoughts for sure! (I know you're not alone in those as many agree with you!)

  16. He just got an extention in December up to over $9 mil/yr, but it's only until 2030, so yes, they likely add some years & $ to it if needed.

  18. Yes. After going through Victor and Miggy I'm done with full time DH's. Especially ones who can't score from 2nd on a double. 🙂

  21. is he just a bad negotiator? is he overvaluing tigers' prospects? underselling others? he's young enough to think seasons like this and players like skubal happen all the time, i guess. being proud of trading **** and getting **** in return all the while blowing the biggest division lead in history is something that they should be embarassed about, not proud of. not throwing it back in people's faces.

  33. A Wild play just now in Milwaukee. “They’re going to review all of it”. Bases loaded one out. A near HR bounces off he wall, but into the glove, no catch. They throw the guy out at the plate on the force. Then they throw the runner out trying to advance to 3B.

  34. I can’t imagine the Tigers going to Toronto and playing this well. I wish I could, but I can’t. And I don’t think we can write this off for the Mariners as “just baseball.“ I think they might actually be pretty good and rising to the occasion when it matters. Granted our team almost had them on the ropes, but couldn’t close the deal.

  36. Nice! Vancouver does our waterfronts really well. Roughly 200 days per year I’m either running, cycling or walking in Stanley Park. I think our geography can’t be beat. Seattle has a stronger and more diverse economy, is still close enough to the great outdoors, and has a livelier city life, IMO. The two cities complement each other.

  37. Off topic, but I lived in Seattle from 1991-2000, and visited Vancouver, BC a couple times a year. My ex wife and I loved Stanley Park. Good memories!

  41. Mentioned him before. Trey Murphy. Can score at two levels and is very efficient doing so. His 3PT% dipped to 36% last year, but it's over 38% for his career. Excellent perimeter defender and can guard multiple positions. Gets to the rim, where he finished at a 72% rate last year. He is locked up for 4 more years at about $27 million per, which makes his contract one of the best values in the entire league. I would offer our 2026 and 2028 1st round picks. Only #1 protected. I would also offer a pick swap in 2027. Then let NO pick any two players from our roster not named Cade or Ausar. Rumors were he was available. Haven't heard much of anything lately so maybe he isn't now. Still should try.

  42. You're not wrong, but you are only addressing the fatigue factor and ignoring the lack of scoring. You probably made the scoring problem even worse for two reason. One, adding a non-scorer isn't what a team desperate for scoring needs. And two, taking the ball out of Cades hands for a non-scorer hurts the other guys on the floor. When Cade has the ball, all 5 defenders are watching him, two are probably defending him. Give someone who isn't a threat to score and one guy is watching him, one guy is guarding him. The defense on the other players is much tighter, and it makes it more difficult for them to score This is why Ausar developing as a scoring threat is important. If he can constantly put pressure on the rim, more defenders have to pay attention. Maybe they send a double to get the ball out of his hands. Worst case, he gets in the lane on a single defender and defenses have to start rotating. He is a pretty good passer and when defenses rotate, guys on offense are open. Scoring for the other guys becomes easier because he can score and put pressure on the rim. Ivey can also possibly fill this role, but I think Ausar has higher upside. I'm not opposed to taking the ball out of Cade's hands now and then. I just don't want to do it for some journeyman backup level ball handler.

  43. That rotation could be dominate.

  44. Getting Cade help should be the #1 goal, and so far it hasn't happened. I constantly posted in threads last year about how Detroit lacks 20 point scorers. 125 times last year, a Piston scored 20+ in a game. 57 were Cade and the next highest was Beasley at 25. In third was Harris with 11 games and the fourth place? Ivey with 10 in 30 games played. That is pathetic. Tatum is Boston's best player. Jaylen Brown had 41 games where he scored 20+. Bostons #2 had 5 less 20 point games than Detroit's 2nd, 3rd, and 4th combined. Payton Pritchard had 24 games where he scored 20+. Porzingis had 16 games where he scored 20+. 163 games for Cleveland. Mitchell is their best player. Garland had 39 games of 20+. 34 games for Mobley. Allen, who is not known as a scorer, had 14 games. 181 games for the Knicks. Well, you get it. The only guy who helped Cade with the scoring is currently not on the roster. Now, Ivey being back, he should replace that lost production. But who steps up after him? Harris with another 11 games? Ivey was #4 last year, and he missed 2/3 of the season. They are at a point now where we need to start talking about deep playoff runs. You can't do that if Cade has to burn himself out in the regular season just to get them into the playoffs. People talk about how the Knicks series is different if Stew plays, and I agree. But nobody talks about how different it could be if Cade is just a little fresher in that series. Three of the four losses were by a combined 6 points. The smallest of things can change that series, and maybe Cade having a little more left in his legs could have been one of those small things to make a difference.

  45. I don’t think the Tigers are punting on the 2026 season, and I doubt they would receive a return that would make them better in 2026. So I don’t expect a trade.

  46. Mize is a free agent at the end of ‘26. He probably has more trade value this offseason than risking his performance next season and getting little at the deadline. Plus, it does seem like the relationship is a bit strained. He would need to be replaced, but I would not be shocked to see him dealt.
