  1. About 6 weeks ago this guy started getting sick and throwing up. Then he stopped eating. A bunch of tests and few thousand dollars later we still don’t know what it was. Doctor thought it was addisons disease which would have meant forever treatment. It wasn’t. She knew of a parasite with similar symptoms so we treated it as if it were that. I swear at one point I figured we were going to lose him. I had already told myself that. He was on prednisone and going out every hour. One night he’d just go out there and lay down. I had to put his leash on to simulate a walk and that got him back in. He would only eat chicken if we made it and barely any at that. Then one day he finally ate a half serving of his food. A few days later he was back to his normal diet and routine and now he’s better than ever. I was feeling guilty over not taking him for enough walks. Sunday is our long run day but with the freep half marathon last week and our post race massages, which is worse for us physically than the race itself, we decided to walk our route today and take him with us. He loved it. Out in the woods and taking in all the smells. He’s been sleeping since. Dogs rule!

  2. I don't know if I'm happier that Rodgers is losing or that any team that would wear a uniform as ugly as whatever the Steelers are wearing is.

  3. It’s actually two boys playing on a tire swing and it was in the Boise mall for years and when new ownership took over they threw it away and some one saw it on the scrap heap at metal recycling facility and they knew the artist so they retrieved it and the artist repaired it and put it in the botanical garden. It was a beloved piece of public art that a lot of people recalled fondly from a more innocent time in our city’s past and it was kind of a big deal to reclaim it. Absentee ownership moves in all sorts of places and erases public memories, but this was one memory that in the end, and only by happenstance, was not erased.

  4. Yeah, once you pass a certain age, your yearly physical includes the doctor beginning the appointment telling you 3 words that she/he will ask you to say back to her/him at the end of the appointment. Since they inform you that they’ll ask for the word retrieval a bit later, you should be able to commit them to memory fairly easily, but, for sure I repeated them to myself more than a couple of times because I know when I’m home, I leave a room to retrieve something in another room… and totally forget what that “something” was. A lot. Happens a LOT. 😂 But, since Trump lies all the time, I have no confidence that he was able to recall his words…. I’m sure he just threatened the doctor. Because that’s who he is.Always.

  5. Thereby hangs a tale though. In the pre-NIL days, it was at places like LSU where it was both easier and more necessary to use money under the table. With everyone having money out in the open now, those are the places that will be hurt.

  8. More wisdom from from JVL Donald Trump campaigned against unity. His entire 2024 run was about “retribution”—his word. His explicit promise was to wage war against the “vermin” and “enemy within” who are “poisoning the blood.” He promised prosecutions and mass deportations. He has said, many times, how much he “hates” half of America. Voting for Donald Trump and then complaining about the lack of unity is like going to the beach and bitching about the sand. These people voted for the guy promising disunity and a war of all against all. And now that they’ve gotten it, they don’t like it? I can see three possible explanations for these comments: They didn’t realize what they were voting for with Trump. They somehow missed all of the stuff he said about retribution. They are genuinely surprised. They heard what Trump said during the campaign, but didn’t understand it or didn’t believe it. And now that they’re seeing retribution in practice, they don’t like it. They understood Trump. They like what he’s doing. But they don’t like the fact that some people are objecting to it. They say they want unity, but what they mean is that they don’t want dissent. I have my own suspicions, but which do you think it is?

  9. JV Last with a great idea re The Ballroom I don’t think that Democrats need to campaign on restoring the East Wing. But what a Democratic candidate might say, if asked about his plans for the Trump Ballroom, is something like this: A lot of people are very angry about Trump’s ballroom and think it was paid for by friends of Jeffrey Epstein. They think it’s an outrage that Trump spent hundreds of millions of dollars on it when he couldn’t even fund the government. Many people say that you could actually makemoney by tearing it down and auctioning off the pieces. We’re going to look into this very strongly and when we come to a decision, it’s going to be one that you like. Then, the minute after a Democratic president is sworn in, he signs the order to restore the East Wing. And then he moves on to the next thing. https://www.thebulwark.com/p/the-lies-voters-tell-themselves-issues?utm_source=substack&utm_campaign=posts-open-in-app&utm_medium=email&r=45wcm&triedRedirect=true

  10. Thomas was signed from Jacksonville. He was signed after he didn’t make the Jaguars roster. He’s mostly a special teams ace.

  11. That Saturday game is in Mexico City. My guess is its unlikely that either team has many fans traveling there to watch. And then they jam it on Peacock? F that.

  12. They definitely don't believe that. The stats have been posted a number of times, but prior to the Tampa game, the Lions go from a top 1-3 defense when Arnold is in the game to a bottom 5 when he is out. (I'm sure the Tampa game improved the numbers for when he is out.)

  13. I wouldn't be surprised if you broke down actual fraud you'd find many stories that aren't all that horrible sounding. I 'may' know someone who legitimately got hurt at work. Hurt in a manner that will affect him physically the rest of his life and prevented him from keeping his job. He does cash jobs on the side that require physical work. It helps him contribute to his family more. If this person actually exists, he's a 'double dipper' and committing fraud. In the long run, he will probably save the government money because he is absolutely wrecking his body which will affect his life span. He's also doing something that most hard working people I know would do, sacrifice themselves for their family.

  14. I also wonder how much his time as assistant head coach in NO helped. Campbell was never an OC or a DC, but he had a stretch as an interim HC and 5 years as an assistant HC. Now, obviously I'm just some old dude on the internet, not a member of any NFL front office and certainly not an owner. But I wonder sometimes if teams are too often swayed by the success an OC or DC has. The skills to run an offense or a defense obviously have some overlap with running a full NFL team, but there's also lots and lots of parts that don't overlap. Now of course the odd thing here is that AG seemed like the type of guy who had some of those skill that an HC needs (aka the whole: "Leader of Men" thing).

  15. 69% of people getting SNAP are either children, elderly, or the disabled (my son among the latter). Of the remaining 31%, 70% of those are working. Keep that in mind when you hear the usual chest thumping about "fraud" and "lazy people".

  16. I read that Ryan Poles has drafted 29 players and has yet to draft a Pro Bowler. Keep in mind the Bears had the #1 pick in back to back years. Holmes has made 26 picks and has drafted 6 Pro Bowlers. That does not include Joseph who was an all-pro but not Pro Bowler. McNeil was on his way to a Pro Bowl before injury, and Jack Campbell looks like a Pro Bowler this year. That’s 9 potential Pro Bowlers.

  18. All you need to know about Leyland is the way he got emotional when the team won the division in 2011, after the city went through the recession and bankruptcy and all that... he grew up in a very blue collar world so he understood the city. He just started talking and realizing what he said and he started to choke up... that's character. Then he danced with the fellas in the celebration. I remember the first time I saw him with the Pirates... "hey, it's Harry Dean Stanton!"

  20. I have not. And the reason I have not is likely the same reason it will take more than $1.5MM to recruit the #1 high school player.
    1 point
  21. Right! $52MM buys a playoff team. Just ask Texas A&M. I don’t know about him at MSU though. They’re not that far removed from a disastrous HC. Brian Kelly isn’t very “safe” as an institutional pick. It feels like he is always one snowball away from an avalanche. I think James Franklin would be perfect at MSU.

  23. Joe Davis is the play by play TV announcer? I think that's his name. It was he who said it. When he said it, I thought there was a bit of anxiousness or sheepishness in the delivery, almost like he shouldn't say it. I liked the intent. If he is from Michigan, if he did do it to pay homage, I can see where the opportunity presented itself, he went for it, but maybe a bit of nerve hit him. Well, and it just dawned on me that Smoltz probably grew up listening to Ernie as well, and he was in the booth, too.

  27. This tush push play is a disaster. Giants stripped Hurts while he was still pushing but refs gave him forward progress. This play cannot be allowed to continue if it is going to be officiated so that the play starts when it suits the Eagles and end when it suits the Eagles.

  34. When seltzers bump lagers and pilsners off of menus, I'll get big mad at them, too.
    1 point
  35. But now we have seltzers and their variants. My local store is about 50/50 in terms of shelf space between beer and what I'll generically call seltzers. I have to drive further away to get good stuff. I still try to support breweries who bottle their product.

  36. I am glad the went-on-for-way-too-long IPA craze is starting to wane, and that pilsners and lagers are on the way back. It got to be too much when i would go to a bar known for its beer and the menu would be all IPAs, weisses, sours, and fruit beers. Bring back St Pauli Girl!

  37. That looks great. I've migrated back to lagers and pilsners in particular. I like the taste of a strong IPA and if I am somewhere new I might get one. But for my every day drinking now I am back where I started. Although the cooler weather now means stout season is upon us. The craft brewery industry is in trouble. The lure wore off for the main demographic. For a long time it was about the chase. Finding something new or going somewhere new. It was referred to as the Pokemon generation growing up. My local brewery has reverted back to the "dad" beer. I just feel better the next day having a lager vs an Ale of some type, espeically when it's 2 or 3 of them.
