  1. I am not a religious person, but if there is a hell, these Christian conservatives who support this **** will be first in line there. I don't ever want to hear another mother ****er call themselves pro-life and condone this ****.

  3. I think he will. I hope he does, because I fear they won't be able to replace him if he leaves. Getting Flaherty and Torres for one year might be ideal since I expect them both of them to be worth the money next year, but they aren't the types of players I want tied up in long-term deals.

  5. The GOP just got a wake up call. That wake up call though will be largely unheeded - like many wake up calls sent to the rooms of people sleeping off a bender. The average Republican rep fears a primary and the excommunication from the cult more than the effect of denying food benefits to their constituents. They can nod along with Speaker Johnson as he rants about neo-marxism while nazis enjoy dinner with the President. They can absorb the effect of a total crumbling of our civil aviation system during the holidays because the alternative - funding the air traffic controllers - is equated with Pol Pot's Cambodia by the RW press. Somewhere they image a couple wearing Dickies coveralls sitting in their farmhouse watching a dusty cathode ray TV from their wooden rocking chairs. Their soybean crop mouldering and unsold. Their children with no job prospects except inheriting the farm from them once they pass this mortal coil: "They'd better not open the government and bring back those neo-marxists federal workers!"

  12. I prefer they sign the best pitchers they can get. Most of the young talent they have are hitters. They should be adding value on the hitting side just from guys entering their primes. Plus I don't like the idea of paying someone like Bregman for his decline. Adding talented pitchers should be more valuable to the roster.

  19. I don’t take MB as saying that anyone was arguing that Brad should trade for Cam Robinson. I take him as using Cam Robinson as an example, just like everyone else was, of the kind of player that one team would find expendable at the trade deadline but another team might need. Last year, given Minnesota’s circumstances where Darrisaw was out for the year, it may have made sense for them to trade for Robinson. It is notable that Robinson was only made available by Jax because he had warts as a player, which are evident in the fact that he has been on four teams in the past year. It is easy to say that Brad could have had almost any player if he just cared enough about the roster, but the fact is players don’t get moved unless there is a really good reason. Maybe we think they should feel like they were in as much of a crisis as Minnesota was in last year, but they don’t. Maybe they are wrong but we will see.

  23. It’s usually the players like Torres who see their offers diminished the most by a QO. It obviously isn’t going to affect Tucker/Bregman/Bichette

  24. It doesn’t come directly from them, but they lose a pick. Depending on what their luxury tax status/revenue sharing status is, determines which round of a pick(and if they lose 2)they lose and if they also lose International signing bonus money. Depending on what he would sign for, we get either a pick after the 1st round (if his total deal is over $50 mil) or after the 2nd round(if it’s under $50 mil)

  25. That's a fun concept. Personally, I'd just like the corner three eliminated. Keep the line at the 23' 9" until it runs off the edge of the court.

  26. I feel like you are being very reasonable and you are getting met with logical fallacies. I agree with you. We don’t know what conversations were had with other teams, who was available and for what price. We also don’t know what the situation internally looks like for the player’s already on the team. None of that negates what you are saying. The team stood pat. Everything that happens from here out this season needs to be framed from that decision. We know that almost any player can be had for the right price, with the obvious exceptions (Mahomes, Allen, etc). We aren’t talking about the proverbial untouchables. We are talking about the middling players that other teams can replace and that are an upgrade for the Lions. They exists. Whatever the price, if discussed at all, choosing not to pay it should have an effect on our perception of the season, and the GM in particular. Winning it all now or in the near future would obviously confirm his decision making process and put an end to this discussion. That really should go without saying. Anything less should be questioned. Not questioned in the sense of replacing anyone. The team can be wildly successful and still not win it all. Questioned in the hopes that, short of a championship, they can shift the philosophy. While sacrificing the current season’s best possible chance of success in favor of retaining the chance of future success has worked in filling the roster with talent, it hasn’t led to the ultimate goal. It hasn’t even gotten them to the Super Bowl.

  27. He played the 1936 season for the Tigers after being bought from the White Sox for $75,000. “Simmons showed he was still a force to be reckoned with, batting .327 with 13 home runs, 38 doubles, 96 runs scored, and 112 RBIs”. https://www.vintagedetroit.com/when-tigers-got-al-simmons-another-world-series-title-seemed-likely/?srsltid=AfmBOoq6XV6ItgWK8eK5LD4sUkL_v3bhMu23N1szWjr03S1rxKg8_Q7F

  29. I disagree with pretty much all of this but that’s ok. It’s your opinion and it’s not wrong but a different way of looking at the same thing. I don’t for one second question Brad’s desire to win and to win now. I have a little different opinion on his decision to roll with what they have as the choice to improve. I don’t think it’s improving. Miles Frazier has not done anything since being drafted. The 3 day Rookie minicamp is all that he’s done. He’s a green as they come. I’m not sure you can count on him to even be on an active gameday 48, much less actually play. That seems like a massive reach. We will see. As I said earlier, it’s very possible they don’t need to improve and what they have is good enough. I think it could be, assuming nobody else gets injured on OL or god forbid #97 is unable to go for any period of time. We will see. Maybe it’s because of the market but he’s left the team without any safety nets and they are very vulnerable at a few key positions. It may turn out to be a calculated risk that turns out perfectly but end of the day it’s his call and his ass on the line. We will see.

  32. And when good and ethical law markers like the Elizabeth Warren's and Jon Ossoff's of the world try to propose legislation to reform the campaign finance system, get rid of Citizens United, have public financing of campaigns, or ban Congressional stock trading, we're told that's socialism and it's bad. Doesn't seem bad to me. Seems good.

  34. “He chose not to improve this team.” 😂 I love it when fans get passive aggressive with the GM like an angry wife. “Oh, so I guess you think this roster has no holes. You must not care about winning cause if you did you would have done something.” The only thing that might be considered an urgent need is a replacement for Mahogany, and it wasn’t a need until 48 hours before the deadline. Do you give up a sixth round pick for a guy another team thinks is no better than its sixth-best big, to get a short-term replacement for a guy who will be back this year, and when you already have Miles Frazier scheduled to come back?

  36. I think they have a championship level defense and a 1st round level offense. There are 3 or 4 team statistics to look at to correlate to winning. The Pistons do well in most of them. PIE is the first one. Detroit currently ranks 7th in PIE. Net Rating is the next big one to look at. Detroit currently ranks 7th in that as well. Shooting is the box score stat that has the greatest correlation to winning. They rank 24th in EFG%, so not so good. But they are ranked 1st in defensive EFG%. I would feel much better if they could get their EFG% up around 15th. Another problem come playoff time will be coaching. JB does a great job getting guys to buy in, play hard, and play defense. But he struggles with lineups and more importantly, with Xs and Os. Remember the last play against Chicago? Pistons inbound to Cade, zero screens, just let him try to get a 3PTA by going one on one? That is a problem in the regular season, its even more exaggerated come playoff time. Not advocating they fire JB. The man deserves another couple of shots in the playoffs for what he has built here. But I would be shocked when they start becoming a danger to make the Finals if JB is coaching this team.

  37. I'm not going to get too excited. They have certainly become a fun team but they are still too unbalanced, the lack of shooting is still likely going to be their downfall against teams that can play better interior defense.

  38. Are they actual contenders? Like for the NBA Finals? This team is pretty good. Hey, maybe they can add to their roster at the trade deadl...........oh wait, I forgot, Detroit teams don't do anything at trade deadlines.

  40. Thinking they didn’t have a potential problem because mid-season stats were good has been the demise of many very talented teams. You have always got to be trying to get better. I do agree that the coaches need to get better. The screens are perfect when you call them into a blitz. Jared and Morton need to do a better job of getting them in and out of these plays at the right time. Flores had their number on Sunday. He was like a hot roller at the craps table.
