i’d kind of like to ask the men on this forum to talk to the women in their family right now. Because I have a feeling that not everyone can appreciate what women are feeling at the moment with this latest killing. Men may say, watching that video and hearing the dialogue that ensued, that they are angry. But I believe at least some women may share with you that what they are is afraid. Angry sure, but women are afraid. Why? Because we have seen that look that that ICE agents had in their eyes when they approached her car. They’ve seen that look sometime in their lives. Because men and women have different reactions. Men are afraid that women will laugh at them. But women are afraid that men will kill them.

My problem with this is these voters seem to have short memories. We are 9 years into this and have been thru several dozen moments that should have been turning points for the average “swing” voter. A point I saw made recently; “Our country isn’t like this because we have Donald Trump as our president. We have Donald Trump as our president because our country is like this”. This isn’t directed at you but I am tired of “this is the moment it’s over”. It will never be over until he’s dead. There are no such moments.

Just a random observation, but while ICE's ostensible charge is centered around enforcing immigration law, it's noticable how little "immigration" factors in to this operation. Or that they aren't even bothering with the pretense that this operation is about "immigration"... It's purely about harassing a large metropolitan area because they can. If they keep this up, they are going to end up turning "abolish ICE" into something the median voter actually agrees with.

Nothing against the people of Iran and their struggle for freedom, but when people can't drive around the suburbs of Minneapolis St Paul without a nonzero chance of being accosted by our own government, it's a little hard to divide one's attention And it's certainly hard for me to take our own government's commitment to "democracy" and "freedom" seriously. Particularly as events in the Cities unfold and as they have endorsed the rump of Nicolas Maduro's government to stay in power after his ouster.

Agree. I think for a while there we were headed in a direction that would make us better. Unfortunately, judging from comments I've had from people who assumed I felt as they did, I also, deep down, knew that the transformation was far from complete. The only difference now is that people have brought the ugliness to the surface. And just like removing a cyst-we need to make sure to remove the sac or it will keep coming back.

Kurtzleben (who is an NPR person fwiw) has some additional points below which honestly make sense. Particularly when you consider how much we heard during and post 2024 about male concerns and neglect of those concerns (think of all the discussions of Rogan and Theo Von and other podcasters for instance) Whether there was a grain of truth to it or not, it objectively looks to me that women are the scapegoats of the moment.

Obviously I understand. We were part of or supportive of “the machine”. That machine has been overtaken by others. But I can also see why I was wrong on some things too.

Yeah, Frank was definitely an inward person, if not exactly a loner. Form the time he was rich enough to build his home studio, he would spend every waking hour in it working on composing and arranging music, which was the only entity outside himself he had any passion for, to the detriment of all the other people in his life. He probably had some diagnosable condition leading him to withdraw, but he was also intelligent and insightful enough to seek help for that if it ever bothered him, which to all appearances it didn’t, since it led to his fame and fortune. Trade Mize? I get the idea but I just don't see it happening. Harris hasn't made many meaningful trades, so I dont see him moving what many consider a major starting Tiger pitcher. Maybe he'll surprise us but I just dont see it.

Mize pitched like an allstar for a couple of months, but I wouldn't call him allstar caliber based on his whole body of work. If he pitches the same next year as last year, I'd say he is an average starter. I do think they could get Max Anderson for him, but that's pretty close to Chas's stated 10-20 range. He's right around 10 depending on the list. I wouldn't be OK with that, but they might get a little more. Still, I'd rather have Mize than anything they could get.

Best comps I could find the last five offseasons of SP with 5-5.171 years of service traded roughly on Mize's value tier were Chris Bassitt and Steven Matz. Both got decent packages of guys who were names at the time, but didn't work out (one of the prospects was the brother of a former swiping app match I never met up with, but every time I see this name it reminds me of that. Can you guess whose sister I matched with? 😄 ). I think it would be foolish to trade Mize right now, given need and upside. Just pointing out he's got a bit more value than one third tier prospect.

Flaherty had such a weird season. He'd have games where he'd be dealing, looking great and then one inning would blow it up. He'd stay in the game - and look great again. Just a bizarre season.

Then throw into the mix social media drama this week that management decided to wade into rather than ignore. They'll be fortunate to end this season "middle of the pack". Because so far, they're 8th out of 8 in the Atlantic, 15th out of 16 in the Eastern Conference, and 23rd out of 32 overall.

One of the few things my wife and I bicker about is I do this thing where as soon as you turn a light on inside, I close the curtains/drapes/blinds/etc. I have this hangup about people being able see inside my house, particularly from the front. The back I don't care so much about as we have a lot of coverage/privacy. She thinks I'm weird. Am i? At least in this context? It's especially bad now with the early nights. By 4:30 I'm shutting down. But I'm also the kind of person who doesn't really care if it's dark inside. We still have christmas stuff up and those lights throughout our rooms satisfies me. But if a lamp or overhead light is turned on.... close it up.
