So you’ve got nothing and pride is preventing you from admitting that you stated a falsehood as truth. The person asserting that something was said has the onus to prove their assertion and saying “go back and read” is lazy. If you are really correct, you’ll show your proof.7 points

I hope the a-la-cart voters who are looking for the dodecahedron shaped fit for their policy concerns can look up from their navels in time to realize that policy doesn't even matter right now. We have got to vote on Democracy itself. To support anyone who opposes this autocratic movement of the hyper corrupt slip streaming behind the religious zealots and racists.3 points

Skubal is #1 and Valdez is #2. I wouldn't really assign a number to anyone else. There is is nothing in Mizes track record which sets him apart from Flaherty.3 points

During the pandemic, I started exercising at home using a series on YouTube called Body Project. It’s nice because most of the videos are only 25-45 minutes long, and you can do them completely standing up without any additional equipment. Some of the exercises are more cardio whereas others are more stretching or strength building. It’s done out of Australia, so you get to hear the Aussie accent and there’s often a bit of humor involved (especially the sessions run by the guy, Daniel). They also have their own website where you can subscribe if you want something more in depth. https://m.youtube.com/@BodyProjectchallenge2 points

I've always looked older than I was but on the whole I'm told I'm healthier than most women in their late 50s. I would say the key thing is keep moving. That's easy for me since I have an active job and live in a place where I can walk everywhere-and since I don't own a car, that's how I mostly get around. It also doesn't hurt that I love vegetables and can no longer tolerate most sweet things. I've also done weight training since I was in my teens. Things I would tell my younger self: don't overdo it with the heavy lifting, don't starve yourself to lose weight, and for the love of the Flying Spaghetti Monster don't stress yourself by trying to please people that you don't like anyway.2 points

Agree with you 100%. I retired in 2006 at 63. Now, 20 years later and having survived a major heart attack, I don't regret a think.2 points

Yes, I promise that when a candidate comes out in favor of killing spouses and your spouse gets killed I will defend you. You can book it. Until then, if a candidate promises policies that destroy our democracy and someone doesn't vote for the only other viable candidate because they didn't like a policy that didn't involve killing spouses, but otherwise didn't threaten our democracy, then I will hold them accountable by saying they helped cause the problem.2 points

Great post. I’ve been thinking this for some time. Our democracy is in jeopardy, yet many people still let what’s happening in Israel determine who gets their vote.2 points

Nobody here -- and I mean precisely zero people here -- think Verlander is gonna be the ace he was back in the day. Not a single person thinks that. Everyone -- and I mean everyone -- expects him to be a serviceable 4th/5th guy in the rotation and great influence in the locker room a la Kenny Rogers.2 points

candidate a: has chance to win, supports policy that voter thinks would result in death of spouse within 2 years. candidate b: has chance to win, supports policy that voter thinks would result in death of spouse within 2 years, but country would be better. candidate c : has no chance to win, but explicitly does not support policy that voter things would result in death of spouse within 2 years. your reasoning: everyone owes their vote to candidate b. and if you had the audacity to NOT vote for candidate B, you, not everyone who voted for Candiate A, are responsible for everything candidate A does. Me: I'm not voting to kill my spouse.2 points

Glad it wasn't more games for Stew, but 7 still hurts the team a ton. This is the toughest part of their schedule down the stretch where you want to keep your lead in the East. But, I guess it's fitting for the team that likes to give up leads and win tough games down the stretch. Looks like they'll be trying to do the same thing with their playoff standings. I would've given Bridges 6 games. One less than Stew who gets the extra one for coming off the bench. This fight doesn't get escalated without Bridges. He immediately jumped into a 2 man fight and shoved Duren. Then he ran around the crowd after Diabate was restrained and it could have been over in order to take a closed fist swing at Duren who was walking away, which is what set Stew off. Maybe I'm biased because a guy who beats his wife into the hospital should no longer have the privilege to play in the NBA, but I also feel like he was the one who took this thing from a 3 to a 10. I thought Duren should've been just 1 game, but the league needs the Knicks to win a national TV game against us, so why not toss an extra one in there.2 points

agree with all this. I don't think the Tigers are worried about the offense either. Most the key players are still either still approaching or in their primes - almost no-one on the downside other than maybe Javy and McKinstry and fair chance of adding at least one ++ hitter in McGonigle. The flip side is that other than McGonigle and Anderson I don't see a lot of depth if guys start getting hurt. Two of the "insurance policies" from last season - Baddoo and Malloy are gone. But there are no perfect teams.1 point

One thing about JV is that he has always seemed like a guy with his feet firmly planted on the ground. I can respect a guy that reported his situation with that kind of candor and tact.1 point
-
People are excited he's back because they genuinely like the guy and he represents an era of Tiger baseball that was fun and memorable. No one expects him to be the Verlander of 2011, but if he can be the Verlander of 2025, that'd be great.1 point
-
A more likely scenario is Goff getting hurt while the Rams have a down season.....and the Lions trade for Stafford who then leads them to their 1st Super bowl.....IF the Tigers can win a WS with JV in the interim then all the Detroit sports fairy tales will have come true.1 point
-
He was a PITA to Tigers fans. Along with White, Otis, Brett, Cowens, Mayberry.....those Royals teams were GOOD.1 point
-
Maybe he'll let Skubal know how much happier he was playing for the Tigers and how he wished he never would have left? And Skubal will SEE the love a returning hero gets coming back to Detroit? And Skubal will tell Scott Boras to take a hike? 😆1 point

Yep. Letting the market set his price is the best way to approach it. I doubt he gets an offer. Teams don't really sign guys to offer sheets anymore. According to this article, only four offer sheets have been signed since 2020. The last one was our very own Paul Reed in 2023. The last time an offer sheet was signed and not matched by the players original team was 2020 when the Kings did not match the Hawks offer for Bogdan Bogdanovic. The article gives a few reasons on why they think offer sheets are way down. I think their second point is the biggest reason.1 point

Yes, if you don't like what you are doing or just getting too old to keep up and you have enough money saved to live reasonably comfortably, retirement is a good option. Many people have been conditioned to believe that work is the most important thing in the world. It doesn't have to be. As long as you have family, friends, hobbies, maybe some volunteering to keep you busy and somewhat stimulated, you should be OK without work.1 point
-
I think the key is to wait and let the market determine his value since he's a restricted free agent. They won't do that because NBA teams are worried about hurting guy's feelings these days, but it's the right move.1 point

Yes, he was, slightly. Much harder to hit. Mize better with the walks. Mize might trend up, but we'll see.1 point

My post contemplates only the thinness of the case for Mize deserving his 2025 All-Star bid. I contend that even though Mize was on the All-Star team, his season fell short of being what is reasonably considered All-Star level.1 point

OK, so, in tiger2022's defense, I do believe many people, including in the baseball media, are expecting (a step up from "hoping") that Verlander will deliver a solid WAR-positive 30+ starts for the Tigers. And yes, that could happen. He did have a solid Verlander-like final two months last season. he placed 14th of 54 qualifiers in ERA- and FIP- In August and September, although he did place 35th in xFIP, which is a reddish-pink flag. So, he wasn't super dominant, and his results were a bit lucky. Stick around long enough, and every player will fall off the cliff eventually in a career-ending way. The chances that happens to Verlander in 2026 are fairly high. Flip side, Verlander is already a freak of nature and he could also potentially have a whole year that is close to what he did last August and September, which could make him a solidly mid-rotation guy. Anything better than that would probably be into the upper-90th percentile of expected outcomes.1 point

I believe that Hinch now has the better ability to match up his rotation against the opponents' possible pitching and the teams they are facing. Of course only with the proper amount of days rest. You have to like the moves the Tigers have made on their pitching staff. Now, if the hitters can actually hit and lower their strikeout rates..............1 point

In the past I would have said no. People can determine which issues are most important to them and vote accordingly. It’s a very personal decision. These are unusual times. Things are so different now that policy which impacts our country, our democracy, our constitution, and ultimately our freedom needs to be the main determinant in voting. Whether you support Israel or Palestine really shouldn’t be a determining factor in the future of America.1 point

Bill Burr's recent comedy special was called "Drop Dead Years". The point was he turned 55 and he says that's the age where if men died, it doesn't get questioned. "Oh, what happened?" No. They just died. People move on. That's what happens to us. If a woman dies at 55 they wonder why and how. I hate saying this because I'm superstitious but I am far healthier today at 52 then I was even 10-15 years. Maybe 30 years. I had a herniated disc in 2012/2013 and it was the most painful thing I went thru. Luckily no surgery. I just had to get off my fat ass. Too much sitting around. I was a high school athlete and always had a gym membership my whole life. In the early 2000's my new doctor weighted me and asked what I weighed in HS, I told her '190'. She asked what happened. I asked her what she weighted in HS. You can 2-3 pounds a year, it adds up. After my herniated disc I finally got serious. I run, depending on when races are, 2-3 times a week. I work out 3-4 times a week with strength and cross training. In terms of healthy eating I'd give myself a 7 out of 10. I like beer. My doctor is fine with it because all of my numbers look great. He said my EKG is what he'd show a med school student for a perfect EKG. I got a colonoscopy in early 2025. Don't need another one for 5 years. Get a colonoscopy. It was easy. They told me the prep would be hard but it wasn't. Not at all. The sensation of going under was so fun. I was expecting a countdown like in the movies. I literally just blinked and it was the future. I didn't get drowsy or whatever. I had an IV put in so I didn't know "when" it would happen. I can see why people get addicted to that. Overall... just move. Walk. Run. Whatever. One foot in front of the other is progress.1 point

Explain to me how Reese is a better option than JV when he's out for 2026? Verlander signed a 1 year deal.1 point

So *you* get to proscibe the basis of others' votes too. If a politician supports policies that hurt people i care about, you and mbs opinions are irrelevant to my vote and your continued insistence otherwise is at minimum ridiculous1 point

The Pistons are really freaking good, that's it that's all. Ok, one more thing. Is the drop off from Duren to Reed that drastic that the Pistons HAVE TO pay Duren $40m/yr. I just think that's a lot of money to allocate to a position that can be filled relatively easy considering how good Cade is. Duren is better than Reed of course but $30m+/yr better? Ehh, I don't think so. Just some food for thought when it comes to offseason decisions. Of course I know Duren is getting paid regardless of what NYLion says so...1 point

He’s probably going to be in between Cy Young and Charlie Morton. Any commentary about him is going to be shoved to one side or the other. His game starts might need to be moved to the political section.1 point

https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1AKJif4CHQ/?mibextid=wwXIfr Turns out it was even better But the only video I can find is on Facebook. Each goalie first faced a breakaway, took a shot full length of the ice, shot at a mini net near the blue line, then finally made their run at the hardest shot.1 point

The media hated Joe. Clicks were down No real scandals other than his son lying on a form (oooh, big one there) Sleepy Joe Boring Joe No-Clicks Joe Yep, they hated him. Clicks being up are more important than protecting our Democracy and Ecomonmy Obama was boring as **** too. I want boring. Boring is good. A boring President is like watching a major league game where you don't know the home plate ump's name because he has not given you a reason to even bring it up - he's just doing his job. And here it is. I think it's been done enough time in the last 40+ years that is a measurable trend Republicans **** up the economy Democrats fix it - but not fast enough So stupid people blame them The Democrats **** up the message Republicans do it all over again. Welcome to the 2026 version. Which may end up being the worst of them.1 point
