  1. Are we really going to have this Harris/Avila debate AGAIN? I'm sorry, but it is getting a bit old and tiresome to me. I've read all the opinions multiple times as they have been hashed and rehashed in multiple threads and there is no way to either "prove" or "disprove" any of them. We are just going to recycle the same opinions again. If there is interest in prolonging this endless debate, could someone start a separate thread for it...please?

  9. That isn't a Detroit specific problem. Only 19 players attempt >3 3PTA's per game that qualify as a center. Of those 19 only 10 shoot over 36% and two of those guys haven't even attempted 100 shots yet due to injury. Of the 19, only 4 guys make more than 2 per game. A big that can shoot well is pretty rare in the NBA.

  12. You're probably right about Kash just wanting to be there for the game, but the FBI absolutely has a role outside of the US and Mueller was in Greece ahead of the last Olympics there to consult on security preparations. If something happened to US athletes while in Italy, Kash absolutely would have been partially responsible. All that said, you're absolutely right. He wanted to be there for the Olympics, just like Whitmer.

  17. I think you combine the deader ball with moving the mound back a foot or foot and a half and you would take the game back to where it was a couple of generations ago. Moving the mound back negates in the increase in velo that stronger pitchers has produced, so many more balls will go into play. The deader ball negates the increase in HR's that stronger batters and maple bats would otherwise produce given more balls in play. But to your last point, the question remains whether any majority of the game's stakeholders actually want to go back there

  21. I saw two complaints about Patel in this thread, him acting foolishly with the USA hockey team and him being at the Olympics on the taxpayers dime. Rob, I think you're remembering the Kwame thing with either 2025 hindsight or remembering it from a view of a republican/conservative which you leaned towards back then. I also thought Kwame acted foolishly and tried to interject himself, but I remember being told by my liberal coworkers that it's a celebration and it brought unity. One tried to tell me that what he did was good for the sport as it would bring awareness to hockey for the african american community in Detroit. As for on the taxpayers dime, the FBI absolutely has a role in ensuring our athletes are protected in a foreign country. Does the FBI director need to be there, of course not, but there is a legitimate role. As for Whitmer, you all know what she did. If you don't, pretend there is an R next to her and it won't take you long to connect the dots. She, just like AOC and Newsom, are dipping their hands in foreign policy to test out running for president. Why Italy right now? Because she could show herself at the Olympics and publicize it. She hasn't declared she's running for president so she can't use campaign funds to fund it and god forbid she use her own money, so she sets up a meeting with someone in the Italian government and heads to Italy for the news op. In short, it was on the state's dime. Maybe us taxpayers got something out of it, better than nothing I guess. In the end, i'm not both siding it. Kwame was the mayor within his own town, it wasn't that big of a deal. Patel slamming beers was much more embarrassing. And for being there, like I said, Patel doesn't need to be there. He can oversee the operation from HQ. Just saying lets not pretend that the state of Michigan didn't help pay Whitmer to help with her eventual presidential campaign.

  22. This has more to do with the government leaders than it does Democrats. These used to be respected positions held by highly qualified people. They have all been dumbed down to Trump sycophants. The lack of experience and qualifications has diminished these positions to the point they can’t even be compared to the same in prior administrations.

  23. Pitchers are valued for their ability to induce high levels of swing and miss, because they can’t give up hits and runs on balls that don’t get put into play. That’s always been the case, but that ability was considered special and limited to a small percentage of pitchers. Science has allowed more pitchers to figure out how to get much more swing and miss, and that requires a kind of max effort from most arms. But that’s where the money is, so pitchers will gladly risk their arms falling off for a chance at the big payday. Seems to me the thing to do is to change the game to reduce the need for swing and miss. Not eliminate it, just reduce it, to the same degree it was when a teams averaged 130 homers instead of 190. That way, it wouldn’t be so horrifying for a pitcher to give up contact. That sounds like changing the ball to me, which I’ve advocated for more than a decade now, but maybe there’s more to it, I don’t know. But there’s got to be something that can be done to eliminate the idea that a permanently shredded arm is a mere occupational inconvenience. Of course, chicks still dig the long ball, and Baseball makes a lot of money off that, so it would take some real business discipline to strive to put that genie back in the bottle.

  24. I think a center that can shoot the three will be important for beating the Spurs. If Wemby has to come outside and guard a shooter it will open up the paint a lot more for guys like Cade.

  25. Yup both sides. Side A does something bad, so you bring up something side B did that is related but not quite the same. You see, there is a difference when a head of state uses an international event to secure investment in said state. There is no reason for the head of the FBI to be in Italy. It would be like the Detroit chief of police going to Italy. Along the way, the Red Wings got interjected into this (A republican was governor for 3 of their 4 most recent Cups), which again similar but both sides. The Stanley Cup finals is an event happening in the governor's home state. Just as I'm sure the prime minister of Italy is at the Olympics. The equivalent would be if the attorney general from Florida was a huge Red Wings fan and decides to fly to Detroit and party with the Red Wings. Another way to put is is false equivalence. You see, one is worse than the other but you you treat them as equal. Common tactic in the former Soviet Union.

  31. How about a little chart porn, just for fun. First the S&P 500 6 month chart by day. The yellow arrows are Fed rate cuts. Going back to October 25 the big long red candle established that price range. It has now established another above that, and tried to break out above, but has failed. Looks like the pigmen of Wall Street loved the volatility. On the other hand - the MAGS. Same time frame.

  33. this game is a bit flukish that the pistons are shooting so poorly, but it does show how they are going to struggle if teams double cade hard in key moments. if he isnt superman, they could be in trouble becauae their other two best players (ausar/duren) cant score without him.
