  2. Barack Obama once said "you didn't build that" and what he said was taken completely out of context. We had to have an entire election cycle's worth of TV ads bashing President Obama on his out of context statement and weeks worth of stories on Fox News about it. This was back in the 2012 election cycle, so in my libertarian days, I was probably one of the critics, criticizing Obama for it. Shame on me, I was wrong for it if I did it back then. But the amount of things that Donald Trump says on a daily basis, minute by minute, that would have torpedoed Obama's campaign is just insane. On gas prices alone over the last month, he's up to at minimum, half a dozen statements or so, that would have spelled disaster for Obama. It would have meant their campaign would be in damage control for multiple news cycles and we all collectively would have had to suffer through months worth of TV ads, digital ads, mail pieces attacking him on it. It is mind boggling how all in the name of "fairness", "bothsidseisms", and "revenue from ratings" we have to suffer through Trump saying these things while suffering minimal to no consequences as a result of what he said. It's frankly ****ing exhausting having to live through this blatantly obvious double standard.

  3. LOL I bet Trump doesn't even know. Officials have probably been told not to tell him because he'll throw a tantrum. So have they told Vance? Probably, and he probably says "what do you want me to do about it?" Absolute disgrace. And we deserve every bit of it.

  5. Random thoughts Of the 16 first round teams, Cleveland gave up the third most points in the paint. They did this against a team who did not have functioning center. The Cavs are not a good defensive team. Ranked 15th for the regular season. But if you limit that to the time Harden was on the team, they rank 18th. Very exploitable. Who guards Cade? Not Allen or Mobley. Not Mitchell or Harden. They used two different guys as the fifth starter against Toronto, so that leaves either Strus or Wade on Cade. Yes please. Yeah, Mobley is going to cheat off of Ausar and basically play free safety on Cade. Thompson will have to be aggressive running the baseline and cutting so they can take advantage of him being left alone. Orlando is one of the most physical teams in the league. Cleveland is not physical at all. The Pistons can bully them and Mobley and Allen are two of the softest bigs in the entire league. This will be a little bit of a Duren redemption series. I don't think he will get back to his regular season numbers, but I expect him to play better than the Orlando series. He can really push Allen and Mobley around. Cleveland is a dumb team. It will be interesting to see if the Cavs remember Allen is on their team while on offense. The Raptors played two terrible centers most of the game and Allen had a big advantage over both. But for the first six games Cleveland rarely went to him. They finally did in game 7 and he responded with a monster game. The more ball screens he sets for Harden the more involved he will be. The Pistons cant have the long stretches of low offensive production like they did against Orlando. The Magic are a bad offensive team and you can survive that against them. Cleveland has a good offense and they will be up 25 on Detroit if the Pistons struggle to score on a regular basis. The more Donovan Mitchell dribbles, the better the Pistons odds are of winning. Their offense is at its best when Harden has the ball and is distributing. When they go Iso Mitchell he forgets he is playing with 4 other guys and is just concerned with getting himself a shot. That is not good offense.

  6. It's the trick they learned from their Russian benefactors, something that was new to America: just train a fire hose of craziness, corruption, and distraction toward the American public, and the critics will be dancing around so much trying to respond coherently to all of it that they won't be able to keep any of it in the news for more than a single cycle. No other president had the fire hose, so none of the other ones could ever get away with anything remotely close to this.

  8. Break it down any more than two outs with RISP and the sample size gets really small. Thirty years of baseball social media have shown me that fans almost always feel like their team doesn't hit in the clutch. I think it's because hitters fail more often than not in any situation, and fans remember the high leverage failures more vividly.

  9. Tonight’s curious lineup notwithstanding, the offense seems in almost every respect better this year than last, except maybe HRs. And I think those will come. Yet every time someone strikes out in a key situation or a hot pitcher stymies the offense for a few frames the complaints about the offense emerge. Baseball fans being baseball fans I guess.

  17. Ya this would be along the lines of what I was thinking. If you look at Askarov and Cossa's AHL stats they are eerily similar.....down to both not having great playoff stats though Askarov has twice the games. Cossa's value is most likely a little less than Askarov just purely from the standpoint that Askarov was a better prospect and had slightly better playoff stats .906 vs .893 save percentages.

  18. Regular season Duren isn't even worth a max contract. You don't max a Center unless he's an MVP candidate. You laugh uncontrollably if an agent brings up the max for a rim running Center that isn't a good defender and can't shoot outside of 3 feet. He's a starter and a high level role player. Average starter salary is 23M, so he should get just a bit more than that.

  22. Harris could be the key to this series. If he is the turd that showed up the first 6 games against Orlando, the Pistons are in trouble. Odds are they are going to cover Harris with Harden to let Mobley play Ausar and roam free to spy on Cade. Harris needs to work Harden if that happens. If he can get them to switch Mobley back to defending him, big win for Detroit as it should free up some more mid-range space for Cade.

  23. The Pistons shot 31% on three pointers where there wasn't a defender within 6 feet of the shooter in the Orlando series. That isn't good defense, that is a shoot slump. In the regular season they shot 37% in those situations. A few guys started hitting some threes in game 7. Hopefully that holds up going into this series.

  32. Liar!!!! 😂 Pro Football Reference has a draft page that gives a very rough estimate of each drafted player’s value. There are a lot of players with higher value attributed to them, including some safeties, DL, OL, and CBs. They probably could have made a difference with all of the injuries the team has suffered at those positions. Of course, most of these players went to weaker rosters than the Lions and may have had less competition. And we fans have been saying for years that the offense needs a true X who can work the sidelines and provide a vertical target in the red zone. So Brad got him and all he does is catch touchdowns. I’d say it worked out OK.

  35. A few of you have mentioned the absence of @Jim Cowan who was also Charles Liston on the old board and wondered what he was doing and if he was OK and I reached out to him through email and he said he’s doing just fine but that he finds his general interest in being a part of a message board on a daily basis to have waned and that it only has its greatest value as an all consuming passion which has for the time being ebbed. He said that he’s excited about McGonigle and the starting pitching and sent his best to a number of you. Since it’s a personal message, I don’t feel comfortable relaying too many of the details, but my own concern was that something healthwise had happened to him - we are both 74 so that can be an issue - and it hasn’t. Anyway, that’s the scoop.

  37. Why? He already had 3 years left on his deal and we haven't even gotten to play a game in the second round of the playoffs yet. Are they trying to get ahead of the CotY awards in case he wins it? Previously we had a Weaver organization that made moves on top of moves, recklessly firing "all the bullets in the clip" and shedding assets along the way. Now we have the opposite. An organization that is loyal to a fault. This is the type of organization that cripples its future by giving Duren a max contract, so get ready for it.
