I'm going to be the guy and ask this question. How do people think this series and the end of this season would have turned out if Scott Harris had been aggressive at the trade deadline and made a move to get a bat in the lineup?

I find it hard to believe that one bat could’ve made that much of a difference.

I remember when the Tigers added Prince Fielder to an already strong lineup and if memory serves me right it was like throwing a quarter cup of water into a full bathtub. It didn’t raise the level much.

that was such a bad move. Prince brought a bat but he cost a fortune in every other aspect of the game.

Given how close everything was, chances are they would have won the division and advanced to the ALCS, but it depends on how well the player performed for the Tigers.  It's a tough park for certain types of hitters.

Verlander is the comp to Skubal.  Porcello is the comp to Jobe.  Edwin Jackson is the comp to Flaherty.

Reese Olson and Casey Mize probably have no comps on the 2009 team.   I would guess your comp to Dontrelle Willis is... ?

Who is the Scherzer they trade for?

Edwin Jackson was an all-star in 2009. He’s probably the Mize comp.

The Tigers went to the World Series and Cabrera won the Triple Crown and two MVPs batting in front of Fielder.

it will be a good test for the coaching/training staff this off season because there are guys with clearly identifiable weaknesses that need to fix them before next season. Riley has to fix his tilt, Tork has to get more aggressive on 1st pitch strikes, McKinstry has to work on hitting the FB again, Meadows can't Cover the lower third of the K zone.

Every pitcher in the pen needs to throw more strikes. which maybe mean stepping back on the more extreme shape efforts to gain greater command.

They also only won 88 games which was eight fewer than the year before and scored, fewer runs. And were swept in the world series. Basically adding him did not appreciably improve the team.

I’m kind of grateful the season is over. A baseball season is like a lifespan with ups and downs, excitement disappointments, victories, and defeats, but when it ends there’s a sort of peacefulness about it and also there’s another one to come.

I’m grateful for what they gave us early on and disappointed about the way it ended, but I’m not disappointed about the lifespan of this season itself.

It’s generally more excitement than I could generate on my lonesome.

I honestly have no skin in the game about what happens after this. Other teams mean nothing to me.

I don’t “love the game“ as much as I simply love the Tigers because because they became a part of my fantasy world alter ego when I was eight years old and they made me feel stronger than I really was then and they still do now.

When I root for the Tigers, I am actually rooting for that feckless, impish, innocent part of myself that continues to believe that something good can happen in this world and that I can be included in it.

That’s not a feeling or sense of identity I can readily or willingly subvert.

I think there’s a certain grown-up wisdom involved in this even though it seems kind of childish on the surface.

It is what it is.

Also this. I know there are people upset about Hinch pulling Skubal after six, and Harris getting cheap and useless relief help at the deadline, but if slots 2-9 go 1-33, well, that’s not going to win many ballgames.

Now I’m just a simple fan but I am smart enough to hear the TV crew point out that the Mariners were pitching sliders all night. At what point should a major league hitter recognize and adjust to this?

They didn’t deserve to win this game. In fact, reading this, they deserved to lose.

they went 15 innings and only got 2 runs they need some real offensive upgrades

I do love baseball, but the post-season tournament doesn't interest me once the Tigers are eliminated.  The post-season also interferes with my work schedule and vice versa.  I like the ebb and flow of the regular season better.
