oblong Posted August 5 Posted August 5 For a few years Carlos was as bad ass a player as we've had. I really liked that dude. Then he would do things like pull a hamstring standing near 2B. It's too bad he couldn't transition from SS. I still have the birthday card my boys got me in 2006 with stickers for his number and Curtis Granderson. Then the Tigers beat the Yankees in the ALDS that night. 1 Quote

I do believe the 2006 Tigers never get anywhere near a World Series without him. He was the MVP of that team (as far as position players go - not just his numbers, 6.0 WAR, but the tone of the team). He is extremely underrated in Tiger history. Edited August 5 by Motor City Sonics 1 Quote

oblong Posted August 5 Posted August 5 my favorite part of that exchange is we saw what a pathetic loser and wimp Weaver was. He wouldn't stop yapping and as soon as he gets behind his players he decides he wants to try to fight so they can hold him back. That's all you need to know. Quote

I remember Carlos rounding 3rd and about to score when he dropped like he got shot. I dont think I ever saw that before...or since. Quote
Tenacious D Posted August 5 Posted August 5 Carlos was probably my favorite Tiger of his era. I also wonder if he had been juicing? His power production took a huge jump and he seemed to fall apart physically prematurely. Quote
Hongbit Posted August 5 Posted August 5 PSA to all as it got me more than once. Whenever Dan or Jason mention Carlos Guillen doing the Tigers Spanish radio broadcast, it’s a different guy with the same name. 1 Quote

You watched him struggle to move at all at 1st base or run the bases and it was hard to believe he had ever been a pretty smooth SS. Quote
NorthWoods Posted August 5 Posted August 5 We need to keep this run going so the pressure is on the other teams next week. Quote
IdahoBert Posted August 5 Posted August 5 So, is Anderson a “starter“ or is this the first salvo in pitching chaos tonight? Quote

Can't imagine they expect him to go very far. He hasn't thrown more than 32 pitches in an outing since June 15 when he got to 59. Before that 63 once in May. Quote
Dan Gilmore Posted August 5 Posted August 5 My assumption was that Hinch would be ready with a lefty out of the pen for a string of LH batters and Madden on tap for more length. Maybe ChaosLite. Quote
SoCalTiger Posted August 5 Posted August 5 I still want the Central title. Just need to sweep the White Sux next week. Why not ? Quote

IdahoBert Posted August 5 Posted August 5 This game is blacked out for me because I live in sacrosanct “Mariners Territory,“ but since these blackouts are so infrequent, I have never bothered to check later and I can actually watch the two innings where the Tigers scored almost all their runs. Whee! Quote
monkeytargets39 Posted August 5 Posted August 5 As great as Guillen was…. All hail Placido Polanco Quote
tiger2022 Posted August 5 Posted August 5 Carlos Guillen had an unathletic physique. He was like a skinnier version of Miguel Cabrera. I don't think either of them worked very hard on staying in good shape. He pulled a hamstring once going to dinner. Quote
lordstanley Posted August 5 Posted August 5 (edited) For anyone who doesn’t have MLB.tv, it is now available for $35 for the rest of the season as a “trade deadline special”. edit: $35 is the international price, it may be more or less for U.S. customers. Edited August 6 by lordstanley Quote
