Jobs report April 2023: Job growth totals 253,000 in April (cnbc.com)

Crushed expectations because a bunch of bad faith actors are pushing expectations of a recession.

Don’t discount the possibility that the Bureau of Labor Statistics could also be a bad faith actor.

In the February jobs report, they made a change to their method for accounting for seasonally adjusted jobs.  That report unexpectedly soared past market expectations much like these did.   Hidden in today’s report was they revised their February and March reports lower by 149,000 total jobs.

It’s hard to know who to trust these days when everyone has an agenda.

2023 US recession now expected to start later than predicted

Quote

A majority of the nation’s business economists expect a U.S. recession to begin later this year than they had previously forecast, after a series of reports have pointed to a surprisingly resilient economy despite steadily higher interest rates.

Tighter credit can then weaken the economy and even cause a recession. Economic research released Friday found that the Fed has never managed to reduce inflation from the high levels it has recently reached without causing a recession.

I've been told for 2 years now we're going to have a recession.

The average America is doing much worse

Biden says the economy is doing better than last year—but 50% of Americans say they’re actually worse off

The American people, however, aren’t feeling as great about the current state of their finances. Half of Americans say their finances are worse off now than a year ago, according to a recent Gallup poll.

Not sure where to put this, the whole interview is interesting, but the comment above is really fascinating given GOP messaging more broadly.

Coupled with the Vallas loss in Chicago, it suggests that crime isn't moving as many people now as it did a couple of years ago / during COVID.

Never fear, help is on the way.

I don't mean to be repetitive, necessarily, because I've been saying this for two-plus years now, but here is one more data point that Republicans will be running on reforming the entire judiciary next November:

Proud Boys Punished: In the aftermath of the January 6 attack, one defense saturated right-wing media: "No one has been charged with sedition." That narrative was obliterated on Thursday when four members of the Proud Boys were convicted of seditious conspiracy. But, don't expect to see MAGA Media personalities who pushed the bad-faith narrative retract their claims. Instead, they're attacking America's system of justice. The Gateway Pundit — a blog once on the fringes of right-wing media, but now representative of so much of it — said the four Proud Boy members had been convicted by a "kangaroo court" and that it represented "JUSTICE DENIED." In other words, a new dishonest narrative has been born to replace a dishonest narrative.

They want to replace judges with stooges, and if they get elected—or, more exactly, manage to take office despite the election results—they will succeed, and one of the last remaining pillars of a truly representative democracy will have fallen.

The message might actually be getting through that violent crime is falling, not exploding ...

SHOCK POLL: Trump Crushing Biden By 7 Points in New ABC/Washington Post Survey

Quote

According to the survey, the president trails his predecessor by 7 points in a hypothetical 2024 general election matchup. Respondents were asked whether they would “definitely” vote for Trump or Biden, “probably” vote for Trump or Biden, or vote for someone else or not vote at all. Among those who “definitely” prefer one candidate over the other, Trump leads Biden 36-32. But when those “probably” voting are added to the tally, Trump’s margin balloons to 7 points — as he holds a 45-38 advantage over Biden.
