My wife Mary (27th anniversary was a couple of weeks ago) has breast cancer. She found out she had it on the same day she found out that I likely gave her Covid, in late April. She was detected early, thank god, but it took 2 surgeries for them to get rid of the cancer, and now she is going through chemo. She's now more than halfway done with the chemo, so she's rounding 2nd base in a way. We are holding up well. It's been a big help having my son home during this trying time. We appreciate any thoughts and prayers. Thank you.6 points

It'd be fun to leave town after scoring 40+ runs in a 3 game sweep and leaving their pitching staff in disarray right before the playoffs.2 points

I can't answer that until I see the schedule for next season.2 points

I think Reyes is fine as a 5th OF on a good team, less so as the fourth OF. As a PR, infrequent day off for the regular replacement, flexibility for double switches on NL parks, you could do worse. It all comes down to the second part of your comment, Chas: how much does he play. I think 175 PAs or less makes sense. But would he suffer from not staying sharp sitting on the bench most of the time.2 points

Page 1 of 3 lordstanley Posted March 31, 2009 Always my favorite moment of the hockey season, apart from Red Wing playoff victories. Could tonight be the night? lordstanley Posted April 1, 2009 Looking good so far, but still a ways to go, at least an hour and a half. After being just a hit goalpost away on Saturday. lordstanley Posted April 1, 2009 The fat lady is warming up ... Shinma Posted April 1, 2009 Blue Jackets? lordstanley Posted April 1, 2009 Better than that ... by being much worse. Shinma Posted April 1, 2009 Ah ha. Maple Leafs. Heh. lordstanley Posted April 1, 2009 It's over in Montreal. 8th place Habs win, taking them to 88 points. In the unlikely event the Leafs win their final six games, they'd top out at 87 points ... which means ... the Leafs miss the playoffs so once again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again WILL NOT WIN THE STANLEY CUP!! Hahaha, suck it Leafs, you despicable bums. 11 months later... lordstanley Posted March 31, 2010 I look forward to this annual bump as much as the Mccarty-Lemieux anniversary. Leafs lose, they're out of the playoffs ... AGAIN. 43 YEARS ... AND COUNTING!!!!!!!!!!!!! Vonlenska Posted March 31, 2010 😞 lordstanley Posted March 31, 2010 Longest drought (43 years) between Finals appearances in NHL history!! Not to mention 43 years between Cups! Johnny Mac Posted March 31, 2010 The Blackhawks last won in 1960-61 and only have one finals appearance since then. I think that is probably worse. lordstanley Posted March 31, 2010 (edited) Actually, the Hawks have made the Finals five times since their last Stanley Cup including 3 times since 1967 (Leafs 0 since 1967): 1962 1965 1971 1973 1992 The Hawks have won 13 division titles since 1967; the Leafs 1. This will be the Hawks' 8th 100pt season since 1967; the Leafs 2. The Hawks have made the NHL semi-finals 14 times since 1967; the Leafs 5. The Leafs have been way, way worse than the Hawks the past 43 years. won 13 division titles since 1967; the Leafs 1. This will be the Hawks' 8th 100pt season since 1967; the Leafs 2. The Hawks have made the NHL semi-finals 14 times since 1967; the Leafs 5. The Leafs have been way, way worse than the Hawks the past 43 years. My bad, thats what wikipedia research gets you :cheeky: skyguy52 Posted March 31, 2010 Does L.S. boycott Tim Horton Coffee? If he does, he's true blue. lordstanley Posted March 31, 2010 My uncle had it rough. Huge Wings fan but long-time Ontario schoolteacher. The Ontario teacher's union is the largest shareholder of the Maple Leafs through their pension fund. BTW, too bad Tim Horton didn't stick to drinking only coffee the day he died. Kdoogie24 Posted March 31, 2010 Im bored of making fun of Leafs fans. About 75% of the people I know are fans of the Buds, and it has become tiring. Some of them have realized a while ago just how bad their organization is, so there's no use in trying to grill them. On the other hand though, I still laugh when they get optimistic. A good start to the season will have them talking playoffs. When the Dion Phaneuf deal was announced this year, you would have thought they acquired Bobby Orr. Luke Schenn and Nazem Kadri are clearly two of the best 19-20 year old prospects in the world. Most of them are terribly delusional, its actually very comical. Shinma Posted April 8, 2010 free_beer_to_leafs_playoff_games.gif lordstanley Posted April 16, 2010 Tough times for Toronto sports fans. Leafs haven't made the playoffs since 2004. Jays haven't made the playoffs since 1993. Raptors have now missed the playoffs 2 straight years. As have the CFL Argos. I don't mind the Raptors or the Argos. But the Leafs & Jays? Ha, couldn't happen to a better two teams! 11 months later... lordstanley Posted April 6, 2011 Listening to Sabres-Bolts. Sabres leading by a goal with 8 minutes to go in 3rd. The Sabres just need to at least get this game to OT and it will be bye-bye Leafs. lordstanley Posted April 6, 2011 Under 2 minutes to go 😁 lordstanley Posted April 6, 2011 ENG for the Sabres. LEAFS FALL!!! lordstanley Posted April 6, 2011 44 years... and counting! Kdoogie24 Posted April 6, 2011 Love it. Quote 11 months later... lordstanley Posted March 27, 2012 Shin's favorite annual post was last night, and mine could be as early as tonight. lordstanley Posted March 28, 2012 Game over at the ACC. For once, Ill be mature and not say a word. I'll just stifle a laugh ... 45 times.1 point

I'm just poking around for interest. We are just wrapping up year 20. The league's roots are in these parts, and we have one (likely two) vacancy/ies. 16 teams, free, a lot of MTS members/alumni, head to head, daily rosters, 11x11 categories. Pretty competitive. More details upon request, but I wanted to see if anybody had interest.1 point

You're not wrong! My mom was diagnosed in May 2020, so right in the middle of all the COVID nonsense. She had her surgery in Feb and now will have her last treatment at the end of October. In some ways, the pandemic helped. Since so much was shut down during that period, she didn't actually miss out on much. On the other hand, not being able to really see her and spend time with her really sucked. It's been a long, bumpy, uncertain road but better days are ahead. My thoughts are with you Cruzer.1 point

It's a competitive league with owners who are particularly knowledgeable about prospects. There are no sleepers because everyone stays on top of everything. I prefer roto over head to head, but I liked the draft and the trading and all the fantasy GM aspects of the league. I left because I have been spending more time on historical simulation leagues. I still have one roto league I've been in for 18 years, but that's it.1 point

Oversaw a very successful vaccine distribution rollout. Bipartisan Covid relief bill. He got us out of Afghanistan. Even as some generals subtly blasted him this week by stating they advised to keep troops in, which Biden somewhat deserved for lying to us, they also pointed out Biden was right about the war, we lost, we needed to accept it, get out, and get on with life.1 point

I am not saying the buzz in the air is nearly as loud as the days leading up to the famous March 26th Red Wings-Avalanche game, but....... Gonna be a lot of inside pitches thrown to Mr. Abreu tonight. At some point he's getting plunked. Tigers, do us all a favor.........make sure your young pitchers are doing some sort of task in the clubhouse when it happens. Don't need them to get hurt. And no attempted karate kicks, please, ask Rozey !1 point

What a crazy game. I love the fight this team has. They NEVER seem to give up or mail it in...it is awesome to watch.1 point

I think a reason a hollow batting average player might be OK on the bench is because you can bring him up to pinch hit in situations where a hit is better than a walk.1 point

I don't see the Tigers signing a new OF in FA. I think they have enough prospective OFers to come up with four solid guys even if they are moved around from Toledo throughout the season. They should be looking for a SS, pitching help and maybe even a catcher in FA.1 point

And there is some history of Mayhem in the those waters. I well recall the day my father, one and a half decades removed from the US Navy, deciding we had to walk 1/2 way across the Ambassador bridge just to stop and lean over the edge and look down at this ship (and take a few snaps with the Argus C3) which managed to get itself sunk smack dab under the span 59 yrs ago. They say she lost a load of European wine as she went down, though a guess would be some of the wine had already found its way to the lake pilot that rammed her into the barge.1 point

Down goes Minnesota! Tigers assured of at least a 4th place finish. Magic number to clinch 3rd over KC is 1. Need to make up 2 games on Cleveland over the final 3 to tie for 2nd.1 point

Jays and Red Sox both lost tonight. So the Yankees have a 2 game lead over both Seattle and Boston for the first wild card spot, with Toronto another game behind. Can envision a scenario where Toronto sweeps Baltimore this weekend, Seattle takes 2 of 3 from LA Angels, and Boston takes 2 of 3 from Washington for a 3-way tie for the 2nd wildcard spot. Even wilder, add the Yankees being swept by Tampa this weekend and there'd be a 4-way tie for the two wildcard spots.1 point

Victor started the season with 2 options left, there would not have been any reason to DFA him, they just used one of his options. https://www.blessyouboys.com/2021/3/11/22312652/2021-detroit-tigers-roster-payroll-service-time-and-options https://www.milb.com/player/victor-reyes-6226821 point

It's hard to overestimate how bad Trump actually was. In general a crisis hitting from the 'outside' like a foreign war or a pandemic is something any even half-way competent leader can use to vault himself into relatively stratospheric approvals - for instance look at what 9/11 did for 'W', who without it probably would have crashed and burned as a bumbler before his 1st term was up. The fact that we are talking about the pandemic making it hard on Trump's popularity is a total inversion of any normal politics.1 point

There was a time, even before the 2020 election, where Trump literally just checked out with regards to Covid. He stopped talking about it. Just didn't even acknowledge it. Stopped attending those public briefings. Stopped attending private briefings. He ignored Fauci, and listened to Atlas. He discouraged testing. He pushed quack cures. He was very slow on PPE and testing. He berated mask wearing. Woodward reported that he literally knew how contagious it was in Feb 2020, but went out there time and time again and lied about it. These are decisions he made with respect to covid, and they're just the ones I can think of off the top of my head quickly. To roll up in here and give him a pass his disasterous economy b/c of covid is a joke. It's because of how he handled (or didn't) handle covid that gave him his numbers and he deserves them. Worst job numbers in almost 100 years.1 point

The thing about rooting against him so the Lions can get a better pick? After all these years, does it matter if we pick 24th or 30th? It doesn't matter, we'll end up picking some player nobody ever heard of or trading a boatload of picks to move up and ruin some kids life. Hall of Fame running back? Hall of fame receiver? Yes and yes. Future Hall of Fame QB (for 12 seasons?). Again, yes. And how many playoffs wins? A big fat ZERO. So go get 'em Matthew, make Detroit sorry. It took over 50 years but I'm finally rooting harder for a team other than Detroit....sigh.1 point

I really like Aftemath. I’m not a diehard Stones fan, so when listening to it start to end there were still songs that surprised me. Whereas with the early 70s albums, which are great, it is hard for a casual fan like me to not have already heard virtually all of the tracks.1 point
