I learned about the vaccines through work b/c I work in medical research. IT was December 2020 and they presented all 5 of the vaccines, which include Astra Zeneca and Sputnik in addition to the three we love currently. One measure of efficacy that WAS NOT reported in the research was "contracted" The metrics were hospitalization and death. I wrote about it on the old forum in December 2020. The N was 90k across all 5 vaccines at that time and the rates were 100%. Vaccines don't stop transmission of virus. It stops illness from the virus. Polio vaccine doesn't stop polio virus. It stops poliomyelitis.4 points

That kind of lame gaslighting does not work in this forum. January 6 was not the day he incited the riot. That started on election day. What he did on January 6 was encourage protestors to gather at a place where he knew a riot was planned. You'd have to be pretty dumb to believe he didn't know what was going to happen. In fact, he tweeted about choas at the captol two weeks before. He was 100% guilty and there is no defense.4 points

Trump has no principles. He has no morals. He is a con man and has been for over 40 years. He is a digraceful human being who doesn't give a crap about this country or anything else but his own self interests. It's a shame that so many have fallen for his act. And what he did at the end absolutely shows that his self interests collide with the US.3 points

voter id is popular with americans. eliminating the filibuster is a great idea because the filibuster is ridiculous and prevents the party in power from running the government, but to pass this voting rights act? dumb hill to die on for the democrats. the real threat is at the state level. reform the electoral college voting procedures, dont waste your time trying to stop the republicans from eliminating "ballot harvesting" or making people show a drivers license or (good lord) passing out water at polling sites. that doesnt help you like you think it does and isnt as popular with voters as you think it is. stop the republicans from not certifying state electoral votes. that's the real potential crisis. people can bring their own water.2 points

I hope the GOP runs on "we gotta keep people poor to help the crappy owner who doesn't know how to do a budget or business plan" The funny thing is by lowering the minimum wage all you do is hurt those businesses because now their employees will be more likely to go elsewhere that pays more. Then they will go on TV and complain about "nobody wants to work" when in reality nobody wants to work for them because they are shit bags.2 points

Absolutely the deader ball would restore the game and, I think, reduce pitching injuries. Pitchers always did get hurt and disappear, Les Cain comes to mind and Mark Fidrych too, but I think that sports medicine is so much more sophisticated today that their careers might be salvaged. And analysis of kinesiology and the throwing motion is far more advanced too, perhaps their injuries could have been averted.2 points

I don't think most voters expected Biden to be a dynamic leader. They voted for him because he's not Trump. He's doing a good job not being Trump. It would be pretty near impossible to be worse than Trump2 points

You're right about a party that is actively working toward single party rule but where you're wrong is that is the democrats doing that. The democrats like everything slanted in their favor. They have debates where their candidates are helped by moderators or the candidates are given questions in advance. When Trump and Biden had interviews at the same time on different networks, Savanah Guthrie basically tried to get Trump in a street fight while George S. asked Biden what his favorite ice cream flavor was. Biden has a "town hall" on CNN and Anderson Cooper is helping him answer questions. Never would that happen to a Republican. Now we have the dems trying to change voting laws to favor them and change the senate rules so they can do as they please. Who would have thought the Joe Manchin and Kristen Sinema would be the two politicians that end up saving the democracy. I hope they stand firm on their word and the dem hit squad doesn't get to them.1 point

personally I think debates are the worst and provide no insight into how one will govern. I only like them because they're a spectacle.1 point

heck, that's kinda how we got rutherford b hayes! republicans decided to sell black folks down the river and end reconstruction by agreeing with white racist democrats that hayes would be president despite getting a lot less votes than tilden. ah white americans. forever sacrificing the rights of black people in the name of national unity.1 point

In a perfect system SOS should work with local and state officials to have regular (monthly, quarterly, etc) satellite centers for such things at local libraries, recreation centers, schools, etc. That would be real local government at work1 point

I only know two people for sure that aren't vaccinated. Both are diehard liberals. I know that's a very small sample but I don't think it's all on the Trump supporters. They're just easy targets here.1 point

I'm old enough to remember when Republicans loved mail in voting because it was used mostly by seniors and military who favored Republicans. When younger people and minorities started using it is when it became a problem and unsecure.1 point

The vaccine does stop the spread. Typically speaking, when someone who is vaccinated is exposed to the virus, the presence of the vaccine in the system prevents the body from taking on sufficient enough load to make them very ill, and also to spread it around. Get enough people vaccinated, and the spread of the virus dissipates to negligible levels, and we can all go back to shouting at each other in loud bars. As long as there's a substantial segment of people who militantly avoid vaccination, when exposed to the virus, they will ingest it in substantial enough quantities to spread it around, and so many of them will get very sick. And since such people tend to congregate as a group, that's what's been keeping the virus alive for the entire country, and has remained dangerous and mutational for that segment of it.1 point
-
depends on the contagiousness of whatever strain is dominant at the time. Omicron is on a different level than what we saw prior. The vaccines do prevent spread. Not every vaccinated person will get infected if exposed. And not every infected vaccinated person will spread it and if they do it's at a much lower rate.1 point

Sliding in with his hand way up in the air like that, no wonder the Babe's stolen base rate was only 48%!1 point
-
The vaccines aren't as effective at preventing initial infection but the backup T cells are still there to keep the disease mild. Which was the point all along. It's milder for most people but can still be dangerous for those compromised or unvaccinated. You can still get infected and transmit but at a much lower rate than if you were not vaccinated which if everybody did their part then overall transmission would be lower.1 point

Republicans want more "election security", because they tend to do better when voter turnouts are smaller. If they benefitted from larger turnouts, you wouldn't hear them talk about "election security".1 point

Charlie Sykes has basically spent the week on his podcasts doing warnings about Civil War. I think we are in a lot of danger in this country. The 19th Century version isn't going to happen. What will happen will look like "The Troubles" in Northern Ireland. This happens every time there is a Democrat in the White House but the FBI has been able to pierce the balloon most times previous before real danger occurred. The existence of an unfettered communications infrastructure, out-of-control political storms are gaining strength like wildfire. Be safe. Your racist uncle is probably not the problem but the idiot cousin might be.1 point

BTW I just saw a stat that said that Campbell set the NFL record for most 4th attempts and conversions in NFL history. I hope he continues to do that even if/when we become good cause I'm a firm believer that teams don't go for 4th downs enough or call plays with the expectation to use all 4 downs enough. Like if it's 3rd and 8, if you plan ahead of time that you are going to go for it on 4th down it opens up the entire playbook, you can run the ball for 4 or 5 yards or set up a short pass to set up the 4th and 3. My philosophy is you have 4 downs you might as well use them, the whole field position game is overrated unless you can pin the opposing team deep.1 point

I hate McVay but like Stafford. I'm conflicted. McVay reminds me of Patricia but only successful. I feel like the first time the Rams struggle or have a losing season, players will turn on McVay.1 point

Too many home runs and strikeouts. We need to bring back the art of the smart base running and the stolen base.1 point

It starts with me. I half assed the game thread, I was tired from the back-to-back game threads, I had to flip home & road, and then I sloppily put a picture of players looking squarely at the Bulls' logo. I put this one on me. I need to come out stronger on Friday.1 point

You're welcome! You're right next door for Pete's sake, pretty hard to ignore, and an extremely negative influence on the number of illegal guns in this country. If one has to be a citizen of a country in order to criticize it, let me know when you become Chinese.1 point

I am talking about individuals having opinions, not countries working against each other One example: I think our gun laws are too lax. If some random guy from Canada says that our gun laws are too lax, I'll agree with him. If some random guy from the United States says we need more guns on the streets, I'll disagree with him.1 point

......and don't forget Obama's Tornado Machine. I have been mildly sick since Friday. Runny nose, lots of coughing (dry, nothing comes up) and my throat is raw, not really sore, but raw from all the coughing and throat clearing. Haven't been able to sleep well the last few days. I don't feel that bad, but I am very tired and annoyed. I went to a facility to get a test today. It was on the east side of Detroit because it was the only place I could get a same-day. Scheduled for 12:30, but I knew I would not be seen by 12:30, and yes there was a line. About 15 ahead of me. It took awhile but everyone kind of realized that it would, they expected it, but then..........you know who showed up, right......KAREN ! KAREN has an appointment for 1pm (it was 1:05) and Karen didn't think she should have to wait in line. EVERYONE had a timed appointment. But no, she started making demands that she is seen next. Everyone just kind of rolled their eyes, but I can tell you this, there is no way she was jumping the queue today. The aggravating part is her 10 minutes of Karening slowed everything down, but the funny part is that in the time she stood there doing her thing about 10 or 12 people came in and got in line......go to the back of the line........LOL. She was still there when I left about 1:45, about 10-15 people ahead of her. Everyone was chill about. it.........except her.1 point

This is pretty much standard now for ICU hospital Intensivists and Nurses. My wifes ICU has this same policy. You can't take a nurse off the floor and expect them to be able to take care of ICU patients, you have to work under another ICU nurse for at least 6 months maybe longer before you can take your own patient.1 point

Biden is just a puppet in this voting scheme. The dems want to get rid of the rules so they can never lose power. The big question right now is why aren't they attacking the Deleware voting laws? They are much more restrictive than Georgia. You don't have to be too smart to see through this corrupt bs. Its the black people who should be upset the most since the democrats keep saying they're not smart enough to get a photo ID. I know a lot black people and can't think of one that doesn't drive. Dems are just stirring up racism again and trying to use it for their advantage.0 points
