Got my 4th COVID shot today. Needed to do “my own research” on Moderna over Pfizer because the clinic said it was “my choice.” Hope I don’t go blind like Ned Flanders did after LASIK surgery. You never know.3 points

Come on everybody, Zelenskyy is the Leader of The Free World. Listen to him, and do exactly what he tells you to do. This means you Blinken, understand your role, you are subordinate to Zelenskyy. Obey Zelenskyy's commands and deliver to him everything that he needs, he shouldn't have to shame you into doing it. Russia was a nuclear threat a month ago, before a whole bunch of generals got killed and a whole bunch more got replaced and a whole bunch of old KGB guys got imprisoned. If Putin gave the nuclear order today, would it be carried out, or would it be the last straw before a military coup? Is Putin still a nuclear threat? I don't think so. A month ago I wanted to avoid a military conflict at all costs, but now I think with every day that passes that Putin does not have a nuclear option. So I say to you, the United States, obey your leader, Zelenskyy, and move in the NATO weapons and personnel to kick the living shit out of the Russians because there isn't a thing that they can do about it. But that is just me and how I have evolved over the past month.3 points

6 outs from perfection with a low pitch count is the only situation where you need to strongly consider changing the plan. IMO , I felt they made a mistake not letting him try. I disagree on both devaluing a perfect game into being just a “super cool headline” and also that it would be borderline negligent to send him out past 80 pitches but that’s just a difference in opinion not a right or wrong thing.2 points

Are perfect games overrated? You don't have to be great to throw one and your legacy doesn't change if you do. Nobody says 'well this guy was better because he pitched a no hitter and the other guy didn't". Nolan Ryan has the record and he's not on any serious lists for best pitcher ever.2 points

I have been shaving my head for 25 years and use Gillette Proglide ($28 for 8 amazon). The key for me is the vibrating handle. Smooth as a baby butt and no irritation.1 point

I switched to a safety razor a few years ago. I feel I get a better shave with just the single blade and I never ran numbers, but I think it is cheaper. Looking on Amazon right now. 100 Gillette Platinum Blue blades for $12.92. I would guess you get bare minimum 5 shaves per blade and more likely 7-10. So you have your next 3-5 years of blades for $13. I don't do it but you can use a leather strop on the blades to extend their life. Next step is using a straight razor.1 point

Barring a major setback to Cade or us getting extremely lucky in the lottery and jumping like 10 spots I think this will be the last year we pick in the top 5 range for awhile so Im hoping we hit a home run here. The guy doesn't have to be a superstar but I feel he needs to atleast be an All Star caliber guy if we're going to eventually want to take that next step in a couple years.1 point

Mariners-White Sox this afternoon.... Sox score on two straight routine popups botched by the Mariners (made difficult by windy conditions). 🙄 Can't quite remember anything like it1 point

I do not work in the Dodgers’ front office. I’m a fan, too. I wanted to see Kershaw complete his perfect game, same as you. I wasn’t rooting for the Dodgers to take him out. All I was saying is that I understand why the Dodgers did take him out, for all the reasons I posted above. From their perspective, it made the most sense. They wanted to both protect him/his arm, and to protect the team’s chances in subsequent games by keeping him as healthy and available to start as they possibly can. To the degree the Dodgers would benefit more from Kershaw throwing a perfect game than from simply winning the game, they didn’t see enough of a benefit increase to risk the health of their ace, and the effect on the team of his being hurt, to take the risk. I can see why they did it, is all I was saying. I don’t know why I’m seeing it from that perspective. I can’t explain that. It must be my upbringing or something. It certainly doesn’t serve me well as a fan talking to other fans. I just do. It’s one of the many unique curses of being me. 😁1 point

I didn't hear Kapler's comments, but I agree about making the bullpen work for the series and reducing the opponent's options for the next game if it is the same matchup. If its a getaway game, maybe you just pack it up and move along. Or then again, maybe not, maybe you try something out for the next series. Maybe its advanced scouting, maybe it puts something to worry about in the mind of the opponent. I also heard on MLB radio yesterday about the angle of run differential and how that is a tie breaker this season. An extra run now is just as valuable as an extra run during a playoff push in September.1 point

If everyone in Brooklyn was armed, they could have started firing indiscriminately in the smoke filled subway station. I'm sure they would have hit their target eventually.1 point

If by "slow building" you mean to continue to be bad and get high lottery picks in order gain young talent, I think that's off the table and this is going to be the last time we have a high lottery pick for a while. We were a .500 team since Feb 16 if you remove the last 3 tank games where played all G-League guys. I doubt we see this team in the bottom 5 next year and being in the mix for a play-in game isn't out of the question. This is a huge offseason for Weaver. It could very easily be THE defining offseason for what this team becomes and the most important of Weaver's tenure in Detroit. A lot of key decisions such as Grant's contract/trade, high lottery pick, dollars to spend on a weak FA class, Bagley's contract, etc. The dream outcome for me would be to get lucky enough to draft Jabari Smith Jr (PF), trade Grant for Portland's higher pick and grab an athletic guard next to Cade (Ivey, Mathurin, or Sharpe). Now you've got your young core with Cade, [Rookie Guard], Bey, and Jabari. You still have a decent amount of FA money that could be used to address your starting Center and/or add bench talent. That's a team that won't skyrocket to the top because they'll take time to mature, but it's "slowness" is based upon player development of a young core with a very high ceiling, not GM development of a bad team still searching for their core.1 point

The local sports talkers where I live kept bringing him up whlie talking about this subject this morning. The general gist seemed to be that, back in the good ol days, guys like Nolan and Luis Tiant would throw upwards of 200 pitches a game, which was good for the game, while a great pitcher like Kershaw can't go 80. Setting aside the context (again, early in a season with an abbreviated spring training, guy coming off major injury), comparing anyone against Nolan Ryan in terms of longevity seems a bit much. Either way, as you suggest, the perfect game thing is definitely represented by a lot of pitchers who aren't great. I honestly forgot Phil Humber and Dallas Braden both threw one until DD/JP were talking about it on yesterday's broadcast.1 point

Fabulous. My great-great-grandfather is the original immigrant on my father's side, he was born in Hawick in Scotland in 1812 and came to North America in 1832 to seek his fortune. Never saw his parents again but wrote letters frequently, some of which we have.1 point

Man you have to let him try. What's the difference between 80 and 100 pitches. he was cruising effortlessly. Only 23 of those ! Thats' just over thinking the room.1 point

Actually the Clippers aren't eliminated yet. The loser of the 7-8 game plays the winner of the 9-10 and whomever wins that gets the 8 seed. So the Clippers will be at home Friday against the winner of tonight's Spurs/Pelicans game and the winner of that game will get the 8 seed.1 point

I know someone who takes this stuff to extremes and it can be really really crazy. I've taken to not recommending any products to him anymore LOL. I recommended a particular cooler one time and he wanted to take mine into costco and compare all of the details to the one at costco. He also filled mine up at work w/ ice from the work machine to see how long it would hold the ice. Of course we kept goign over there and stealing "his" ice because obviously1 point

A person I was working out next to yesterday for 60 minutes tested positive this morning. I ran a half marathon with her on Saturday too. She had tested negative earlier in the week but now positive. So I'm in a wait and see approach. See how I feel and probably test Saturday or Sunday morning if I have symptoms. I"ve made it this far without being tested and leave it to a doctor to infect me... she feels horrible about it.0 points

Cunningham is Grant Hill 2.0. He'll be a star, the Pistons will be middle of the pack at best and lose some 1st round playoff series, and Cunningham will depart for the next super team.0 points
