  1. "Hit the ball where no one is". I have been told that hitters can't do that and that's why it's impossible to beat the shift.

  2. You are historically and numerically incorrect. The EC exists because the US started out trying to maintain a patina of being union of somewhat politically equal states. It is no longer. It's is now a unitary nation. The Civil War settled that issue pretty emphatically. The other concept - about 'others have no say' is in fact the motivating principal of democracy, which is when in doubt, give the decision to the majority. There is no other fundamentally fair thing to do, thus elimination of anti-majoritarian structures like the EC manifestly would not 'give others no say', but instead move toward giving the most people the most say == democracy.

  4. People keep saying Miguel might be the worst hitter in the lineup, but that seems aspirational to me

  6. I was under the impression the license plate was off a different vehicle? That's not the same as missing or expired tags.

  7. I'm fairly positive they got to know Willis and Howell during their time coaching the Senior Bowl.

  10. The NYPD budget is over $5 billion. It increased $195 million from last year. How much more do they need?

  11. The EC was set up so it was fair and represented everyone. If not for the EC the people of the big states and cities would elect our government and the others would have no say.

  12. Or maybe the people in the country are just being greedy and non-communitarian. unwilling to adjust an unfair, non-democratic system because it benefits them. just sayin'...

  13. they'd be better off going budget and just hiring Velma instead of the entire crew at Mystery Incorporated. Honestly the rest of the crew just strike me as stoner losers that just basically exist so the team can split up while Velma solves the crime.

  14. I want to be excited about Meadows but until he does this in AA I'm going to temper my expectations. This is his 3rd season in West Michigan so I would hope he'd dominate it, if he goes to Erie and impresses I will then start to get a little excited.

  15. Here’s what it was like elsewhere in the city: Driving home yesterday afternoon and turned into the alley to get to my garage. First, a gust into the shotgun-side door tried to tip the car over. You could definitely feel the side-to-side movement. But then as I continued on, down at the end of the alley, i saw two of those big black garbage cans being pushed by the wind across the alley, one tipping completely over. It helped that they were empty, but still, very weird scene not seen here by me before.

  16. Lol at Benintendi, the way that Miggy ran his arm on that medium fly ball. He'll never hear the end of it.

  17. Leyland probably said to him 12 years ago: "Look, young man, you go out there and get 3,000 hits and 500 home runs and you can stick whatever you want in your ears. Until then, what I say goes, and I say no earrings on the field".

  19. when miggy clinched the triple crown the royals fans gave him a standing o. i thought that was pretty cool and gave me some respect for them. so if he's gonna get to 3k on the road, it'll be ok if its in kc.

  21. I mostly agree with this. Will say that, even setting the stuff aside, Manning impresses me with his killer instinct on the mound. I like that he goes after guys and doesn't nibble as much as Mize

  22. In terms of pure stuff Skubal and Manning both have more, but only time will tell which of the three makes the most of what they have.

  25. Also, the Wings are better off shorthanded with DeKeyser in the box than even strength on the ice.

  28. I switched to a safety razor a few years ago. I feel I get a better shave with just the single blade and I never ran numbers, but I think it is cheaper. Looking on Amazon right now. 100 Gillette Platinum Blue blades for $12.92. I would guess you get bare minimum 5 shaves per blade and more likely 7-10. So you have your next 3-5 years of blades for $13. I don't do it but you can use a leather strop on the blades to extend their life. Next step is using a straight razor.

  30. I do not work in the Dodgers’ front office. I’m a fan, too. I wanted to see Kershaw complete his perfect game, same as you. I wasn’t rooting for the Dodgers to take him out. All I was saying is that I understand why the Dodgers did take him out, for all the reasons I posted above. From their perspective, it made the most sense. They wanted to both protect him/his arm, and to protect the team’s chances in subsequent games by keeping him as healthy and available to start as they possibly can. To the degree the Dodgers would benefit more from Kershaw throwing a perfect game than from simply winning the game, they didn’t see enough of a benefit increase to risk the health of their ace, and the effect on the team of his being hurt, to take the risk. I can see why they did it, is all I was saying. I don’t know why I’m seeing it from that perspective. I can’t explain that. It must be my upbringing or something. It certainly doesn’t serve me well as a fan talking to other fans. I just do. It’s one of the many unique curses of being me. 😁
