  2. Iirc shortly after the game somebody at the Athletic went back and watched the tape of Hutch against Georgia and he came to the conclusion that he didn't play as bad as it appeared. Apparently Georgia went all out in game planning to neutralize him. I'll have to go try to find the article to see exactly what the conclusion was.

  3. i think this is a fundamental misunderstanding of history and human beings. i suppose if you were a man back in 1789, you'd be the biggest abolitionist and female suffragette in the world, eh? in 50 years, your grandkids will think you were a horrible person too. in 200 years you'll be seen as a troglodyte who had no understanding of the world. the founding fathers are not above criticism. but that ctiticism should be a little more nuanced than "theyd be wearing white hoods." if they were alive today, they'd have 200+ years of history and education that they didnt have before.

  7. Unsurprisingly, when we look at umpires who have called 60 or more games at the plate across the past six-plus seasons, we see that Angel Hernandez is in the bottom third for accuracy. I'm sure you'll recognize lots of other old-timey names on the list, too. Consistent with research we've all seen showing younger umpires are much more accurate calling to the basic strike zone than older umpires.

  8. My theory is that the owners are colluding on switching to robot ball/strike umps and Angel is being used as their scapegoat (being payed handsomely under the table).

  9. If there is a receiver the Lions really want at 32, I would stay. These receiver contracts are getting out of control so I would want that 5th year option on a receiver as well.

  11. I wonder if the trading back might make more sense with the 32nd pick. Say a team wants a QB at 32 for the 5th yr contract. If someone offered the lions their 2nd this year and 2nd next year, would it make sense? Peter Kings article this morning mentioned that scenario. In this example the falcons traded up to 32 and the lions received picked 43 and a 2nd in 2023. I’d be ok with that, depending on the board. King also expects the Jags to take Walker number 1. Walker is now the betting favorite in a number of places to go first overall.

  12. I look at that as a positive in that we have huge upside that’s bound to surface. And we are enduring the hardest part of the schedule. With players returning from injury and others improving up to their normal performance level combined with an improving schedule we have a snowball rolling downhill. Wait for it and enjoy it

  13. in another comment to what you said earlier, the french have more pride in their history than the american left, which will complain about "christians" til the cows come home, but will excuse all sorts of behavior if it comes from non-christians or non-"white" people. the majority of the french, including many on the left, do not susbscribe to such identity nonsense. there is a big movement to avoid the anglo-american phenomenon of trashing one's history and culture because it was mean to black people. its not as popular there as it is in canada, england, and america.

  14. I don't think they should punt on the year. Moving Tork off 1B is not a move I would endorse even if it would mean immediate improvement. You just have to ride out the struggles of certain offensive players until it turns around. They're lucky to be 6-9 with how bad the offense been.

  17. Tork will never play another game at 3rd. You have to think about him in 2-3 years. It would hinder his development and he's more important than Candelario having a terrible month.

  22. I don't know how reliable Jack Fischer is but, this is what he said recently... Grant seemed to be at the top of their list. He and Lillard have a relationship dating back to their days with Team USA, and they share an interest in playing together once again, sources said. In years prior, Lillard has indicated to Portland leadership several two-way, rangy wings such as Grant, Ben Simmons, Aaron Gordon and Jaylen Brown as the type of playing partner he preferred, sources said. Grant has been linked to them heavily for months now and the rumors around the deadline were that they were designing this offseason around building a contender to keep Lillard happy so while they might not want to give up the pick for Grant, they might have to or risk frustrating Lillard even further. Personally, I think they're stupid for taking this route and they should blow it up but, hey, if they want to be stupid Weaver is here to take advantage of the stupidity if need be.
