My views on this topic are as follows. I am against abortion on a personal level. I am a single male in his 30s and acknowledge that the burden of any restrictions do not affect me. The best way to be pro life is to live pro life. While abstinence until marriage is unrealistic, abstinence until a serious relationship isn't. Speaking primarily to men here: anybody out sleeping around and taking home a different drunk girl of their choice every weekend should probably sit this one out. You can't be pro life if you don't live pro life. I am against overly restrictive laws on abortions for a lot of the things Oblong pointed out. They target a lot of gray area and other women's health issues. And right now, I don't trust the current GOP crop to consider that nuance in a fair way that isn't going to cause a lot of people a lot of undue harm.4 points

Also. Another pro of abortion. It probably saved us from about a half dozen extra Trump spawn.3 points

buddha makes a lot of sense here, even if I dont completely agree. You might know where I stand on this. Glad to see Roe go. Procedurally, if Roe is gone and replaced by laws allowing abortion, thats democracy. I agree with protecting life as early as practicable for one simple common sense reason that has nothing to do with religion: I identify with the unborn because that was me one day long ago, and that was every one of you too. All the rest of the disscussion is negotiation...not judging honest discussion one way or another. Carry on. I will not be responding but I will be reading.3 points

The point you appeared to be making was that you want us to stop talking about the Republicans' off-the-deep-end abortion policy, which is a major issue for millions of people, and get us talking about some manufactured outrage that has happened maybe six times, tops. The abortion issue is the only issue at issue at the moment. Attempting to whatabout a completely unrelated topic into the mix is, as the kids of 2007 say, weak sauce.2 points

abortion is a medical procedure and decisions about it should be left between a woman and her doctor. Not some old blue haired hag and her pervert pastor husband who thinks the Earth is 6000 years old. Those are the people that will be making these laws in ass backwards states like Mississippi. A teenager raped by her father will have less rights than the rapist. I call them crazies because their opposition and reasoning on abortion law is based on religious beliefs. The idea that "God will sort it all out, it's God's will, etc.". The concept of a God, god, Allah, Yahweh, etc. should never be factored into a law. We can't have 50 states with 50 abortion laws. There's already talk of some states making it a crime to go into another state to get an abortion where it's legal. Spend some time in a neo natal unit and among high risk pregnancy groups where families have to make very difficult and painful decision and then report back. Partial Birth abortion isn't about some woman deciding in month 8 that she doesn't want a kid anymore..... it's much more complicated than that. Nobody gets one that wants one. They want the baby. Nature decided against it and made it risky to have one and now you'll make criminals out of the doctor and mother. But hey.. tell me again you are pro life because I don't believe you.2 points

The day that the men passing anti-abortion bills actually care more about babies than women will be a cold one in hell my friend.2 points

I frankly don't care about the sanctity of the court or the politics right now. I care about the women and their families that will be hurt by this. Young girls, victims of rape, and middle aged mothers with high school kids facing a health crisis with an unplanned and shocking pregnancy at age 45 will end up dying. All because of 5 justices who think our country should be a theocracy.2 points

There's some evidence that the Tigers bullpen is over-performing. The BABIP is only .244 (26th) and their LOB% is 79.1% (4th). These are usually luck-based stats that are normally near league average by the end of the year (these numbers would be ranked 30th and 1st last year). Their strikeout rate is 22.6%, which is below league average. The main reason their ERA is so low is that they have only allowed 3 home runs all year, the lowest in baseball. Meanwhile, they have a 41..6% fly ball rate, 5th highest in baseball. They can't continue to allow that many fly balls with so little home runs. Their xFIP is 3.91, almost 2 runs worse than their ERA of 1.97. Are they better than last year? So far, yes. But my bet is that they will be near league average by the end of the season.2 points

to be fair, despite my hyperbole, most people who consider themselves Pro Life don't think about this like we do here. I understand that. But someone has to. Too many people are legislating to try to control what they think is immoral behavior. Its more than that.1 point

We accommodate more than 750K of freedom seeking refugees each year don’t we? To think a good portion of these babies may grow up to be good people? I know I’m reaching, dirty little evil babies I know.1 point

I don't think much can be done.... The conversation here was probably one of the more civil ones online today, and yet you still have words like "Nazi" and "Pharisee" and "murder" and "fascism" being thrown around. There's just too much division on this issue, which is a big reason why I try to avoid talking about it most of the time.1 point

I've read a lot of the comments here and some I agree with and some I don't. Mtu is dead on with this comment. Rape, insest and medical issues need to be considered. Telling a rape victim she must carry a child for almost a year after the crime is cruel and unusual punishment. There has to be way to stop the mass abortions and still have it available for certain situations. This is the problem with both sides and the all or nothing mentality.1 point
-
Just curious how many of you are in favor of making the father at least pay 50% or more of the cost of the child that they helped create for the first 20 years or so of its life. And are willing to support legislation making it mandatory, with no excuses from the sperm donor.1 point

the complaint was that sotomayor asked gorsuch to wear a mask and he refused so she did it via zoom. they both came out and said that's not true. that is the objective fact of the story. the rest is your projecting your dislike for gorsuch. 😉1 point

I regret a lot of things in my life, including criticizing Hillary Clinton the way I did back in 2015/2016. The one thing I don't regret though, is deciding to vote for Hillary Clinton in the end. Had she been elected President we wouldn't be here.1 point

She's also in a blue state. Joe Manchin is a Democrat but is very difficult to get to vote accordingly.1 point

I for one respect your opinion. Millions of Jews murdered and Millions of babies aborted equates to millions of lives lost. They both make me sad and reflective.1 point

Just my two cents, but comparing abortion to the Holocaust really trivializes what happened during the Holocaust. And if one harbors pro-life views, it's probably a line that's more of a negative than a positive toward promoting those views. I'll leave it at that.1 point

We'll see. If states adopt rigorous abortion bans in the wake of a repeal, it will deeply offend my sense of fairness, but not my sense of political process.1 point

you've conflated killing a human being with popping a zit. you dont need technology to tell its a human embryo, you know its a human embryo because its inside a human. you are killing a human life. on purpose. you can justify it with all sorts of reasons - i know i do. but at the end of the day, that's what youre doing. no reason to pussyfoot around the issue to make yourself feel better.1 point
-
They don't care about the "babies". To them women who get abortions are sluts who dare to have sex outside of marriage. Rape victims had it coming by wearing a skirt and black bra. Fuck the religious right. They are evil. All of them. They only care about "babies" as a tool to gain political power. I know this is just a game to you but real people are going to get hurt.1 point

Except states are rushing to ban it at 6 weeks before women even know they are pregnant. Overturning Roe allows them to do it.1 point

Start giving a shit about local elections. The GOP has run roughshod there for decades. Seriously, how much money was donated to McConnell and Graham's opponents in 2020 that could have been donated to help pick up countless state and local election seats that could head off the laws that will come from this.1 point

Rehnquist's backfill, yes. But SDO would have waited for a Republican. And do you think Obama emerges if Gore won? The butterfly effect gets pretty large to the point where this all blows up. Bottom line: it is a fact that Alito and Roberts were appointed by a President who won the popular vote. Anybody who says otherwise is repeating crap they heard on MSNBC.1 point

no toronto, no boston, no colorado, no st louis, no pittsburgh. the rangers would suck because its new york and youd never hear the end of it from espn. i have a friend who is a kings fan and he can be annoyingly smug when his teams win so no kings. the wild seemed to be real dicka this year when we played them and that one guy slammed lucas' head on the ice so no minnesota. the hurricanes organization just seem like dicks on twitter so no canes. do i really nees to see kenny holland lift the cup after destroying the wings? no oilers. dallas and nashville are non entities to me now. so calgary, tampa, washington, florida. i still kinda root for tampa because its still stevie's team. plus theyre playing the leafs.1 point

So I can finish this story today. The check from Westinghouse did arrive, after which I ordered the part. The part arrived today. I paid not the $320 the service firm had quoted on their work estimate, but $150 - for a factory certified new part. It took about 20 min to install the board, test function, and re-assemble the door. No more dead dishwasher! All in all, considering Westinghouse effectively paid me > $200/hr to fix their dishwasher - NOT a peeve.1 point

Lamar also relies heavily on his legs unlike Stafford. When he can't make plays with his legs, how's he going to be as a strict pocket passer? We saw how quickly Cam Newton's career cratered once he couldn't run anymore. I think Stafford is going to age a lot better than Jackson or Murray and can probably play close to age 40 at a high level.1 point
