  1. so Baltimore sells high on a guy having a career year, who may never be this good again. that's how its done Al.

  2. that doesn't work by the way.... I saw a thing on it "don't put too man onions" "I didn't put too many onions Paul... just 3 small onions" "Aw you gotta have the pork... that's the flavor" Part of me thinks Scorsese just put a bunch of old Italians in the room and told them to cook and set up his cameras and filmed.

  6. If I watch ten Tigers games and you watch just one, who is more likely to see at least one Tigers victory?

  7. Al really is in a no-win situation. One that he put himself in.

  8. It's probably more important to have a "proven closer" with the right mentality than a bunch of prospects at far more valuable and difficult to fill positions. When you're a team with like five good relievers and limited talent everywhere else, you make the smart play: build through the part of the team that is only useful if the other (terrible) parts won the first six innings. Whoa, I think I briefly used latent psychic powers to channel Al Avila's id for a moment there. Seriously, they basically have to trade at least a couple of them, and the longer it takes the more concerned I become.

  9. As we all know, he used a razor and he used to slice the garlic so thin that it would liquefy in the pan with just a little oil. It was a very good system

  11. Interesting little nugget there. Look, the fact that Avila got anything for Grossman is a minor win. Maybe the kid needs another organization to figure things out, maybe he never becomes anything anyway. Whichever way it ends up, trading away 2+ months of 2022 Grossman for a random minor leaguer is fine.

  12. word order in English is important. Skubal really came to the dugout after the screw-up at 2b and said "I'm tired of this shit". Hinch thought he said, "Shit, I'm tired", and took him out.

  18. And I suppose I’d be remiss if I didn’t add my own Italian marinara sauce recipe here in this thread since that seems to be a side stream here. mince and slice some garlic cloves, and very lightly sauté them in a good quality olive oil in the bottom of your pan. Make sure the light on your gas stove isn’t too high, you don’t want the garlic to brown. Add a large can of crushed tomatoes a good quality. If you can find MUTTI, they’re honestly the best. At about 7-8 basil leaves, (chiffonade) - lower the flame, and simmer the marinara sauce for maybe about 10 minutes. Linguine works best with this tomato sauce. Add a small teaspoon or so of locatelli grated cheese on top.

  19. That’s why I don’t think the Tigers were playoff underachievers. 5 appearances between 2006-2014 yielded 4 trips to the ALCS and 2 pennants. That’s probably more than we could have expected, especially without home field advantage any of those years and only in 2006 did they have close to the best record in baseball.

  20. I've designed this handy imaginary diagram for two competing situations. In scenario one, the Tigers utterly sell out and boost their chances one season, but never again make the playoffs, in the other they make it every season but are not a favorite. Scenario one: 1/8+0+0+0+0+0+0+0+0+0 Scenario two: 1/12+1/12+1/12+1/12+1/12+1/12+1/12+1/12+1/12+1/12 What I've decided is fractions suck and I'm a fool for not using decimals for this. Feel free to mock me, I deserve it.

  22. Better to keep players and get nothing in return than have Al trade away players and get nothing in return.
    1 point
  23. Yes we are really missing opportunities with Al. It seems he is always thinking job preservation above aggressively building a winning team. He really needs to go. The entire league has passed him by. Look what the Orioles got for Lopez. A waiver wire pick up they traded for real prospects first chance they got. Not Al.

  24. Oh, San Diego,.... you could'of had Grossman for nothing.

  25. Blue Jays asked about Grossman last year when he was producing like he never had before. No idea what they offered but safe to assume it would have been a better return last year. Same for Cisnero, who was great the first half last year and there were some rumors about him. Same with Fulmer years ago. Same with never traded Boyd. Nothing for JD and JV. Complete opposite of DD who constantly turned crap into gold.

  26. Well I do think it showed us something. Saul/Gene had two opportunities we know of to not go hard. The Walt/Jesse scene was there so that Mike could come in and tell him about Walter and that he should just forget about him. He's dangerous. Saul ignored him. In the "present" he was told to not go after the cancer guy at the bar and he was given the choice again and he ignored it. If Saul took Mike's advice how different would have things played out for everyone in the show?

  28. One guy got 7 1/4 years. His own son turned him in and warned the FBI about about him BEFORE January 6th happened. He said in an interview that his dad had anger issues and Trump set him totally over the edge and broke him. Broke him. I can't understand how people can't see through that bastard. I saw through him in the 80s when he was just a New York loudmouth attention whore.

  31. I believe the science. But I think the real culprits in the zipper merge are not the people who drive up to the end. It's the people in the other lanes who keep switching because "That one's moving". Then that lane stops and the other starts moving and then they move back. Just stay where you are and it'll work itself out and nobody really gains anything. But that goes back to my point earlier where people are impatient and so afraid that someone else might "get there first".

  32. Yep, Anglin is the classic "lottery ticket" type player. And Grossman was a player who the Tigers were lucky they didn't have to DFA. I know we have the precede all discussions with a "five minutes hate" about Avila around here, but in general, don't have much to complain about in just getting someone for Grossman

  33. I find it odd that they DFA Derek Hill the same day they trade Robbie Grossman. Does that mean Kerry Carpenter is going onto the roster?

  34. I have enjoyed many if not most of the last 38 seasons including some of the seasons where they had little chance to win but had some interesting players to follow. My hyperbole was in response to your hyperbole that the Brewers should not be praised for having a good organization the last few years because they haven't won any championships. I think that's ridiculous.

  35. dya think the relievers got together before this game and made a blood brother's pact to all look bad together?

  36. Al is sure to trade him for a team's nineteen year old #2 ranked AA pitching prospect who has had dead arm issues, along with same team's backup AAA catcher who has a case of the jimmy legs.
