Yep. That's what I've been saying as well. Get Duren in the starting lineup. I don't care if he's young and not that great at team defense yet. They need the rebounding, size, and verticality. You also don't want Duren and Bagley together off the bench because the spacing will be terrible. So it's a win-win. You can either start Stewart next to Duren and send Bey or Bojan to the bench unit, or simply send Stewart to the bench unit as you suggested, where he'll play alongside Marvin once he returns. Any way you slice it, it's better size and athleticism for the starting unit and better spacing for a bench unit that sorely needs it. And while we're at it, can we PLEASE get Casey to leave one of Ivey or Cade in the game at all times. This 5-man bench platoon garbage needs to end immediately. Nearly every other coach in the league staggers their two best players - it's not that hard.2 points

rationally this is true. but the bears are 3-4 with a team that was supposedly the least talented in the league. they just blew out a team that beat us 29-0. the falcons were supposed to be the least talented team in the league and they've won 3 games. hell, carolina is tanking and theyre 2-5. the giants and jets were laughingstocks and now theyre 5-2 and 6-1. when is it detroit's turn? i get it. injuries, bad luck, etc. youre right. but it doesnt make it any less frustrating or any less aggravating to be a fan of this god forsaken team.2 points

I was taking that more as a couch GM in general, not necessarily here. Someone will probably give him 10 yrs, just saying I wouldn't give *anyone* 10 yrs at 30+2 points

I hate the Astros as much as the next guy. But keeping the streak of the Yankees missing the World Series alive is pretty sweet.2 points

If risking $7 million on a guy likely to rebound, which would make the salary worth it, is a major concern because there's a possibility he won't—if the money is the reason they don't do it—then we should be a little concerned for what that means for Baby Doc committing adequate resources to the team. Because in the MLB scheme of things, a $7 million risk is almost nothing.2 points

A few nice weapons? It depends on Jamo of course and Swift remaining relatively healthy but few teams boast the talent the Lions have at the skill positions when they're whole, which is never but still... Plus they supposedly have a good offensive line as well which isn't something the Commanders can boast about. The Lions are actually a pretty good situation for a young QB to walk into believe it or not, this was the #1 offense for the first 4 weeks without Jamo, Swift in and out of the lineup and a beat up offensive line. Not to mention, an average QB in Goff. Essentially, I agree that they should take a QB if they finish in the bottom 3 or so but it would be hard to pass up on a talent like Anderson, he's truly special.1 point

Isn't this suppose to be a deep draft for QB? Look at 2018. 4 QBs taken in the top 10 and only Josh Allen, the 3rd one taken, still remains on his original team. I don't think the Lions need to jump at a QB.1 point

Rays have drafted McClanahan, Rasmussen, and of course Mahtook1 point

they look better on the pk and pp. perron and kubalik have added that shot to the pp that's hard to stop. you see the energy on the pk you didnt see last year. they seem to be pressing higher and more effectively. sundqvist has been a real good addition to this team. dare i say he's been more valuable than nick leddy all by himself, much less with the coming draft pick and potential for waldman.1 point

Going just by what I think I see..our defense and forwards are doing a pretty good job of pushing the other guys entries to the outside. Our D is much bigger than year's past and they're using that size well.1 point

I know nothing about Rob Metzler per se, but he does have fairly extensive scouting-for-the-draft experience with one of the most innovative acquirers of talent in the game, so based strictly on resume, I approve.1 point

I met Metzler 10 or so years ago when Baseball Prospectus held and event and Q+A with members of the Rays front office at the Trop. Nothing more to add, but this is an upgrade on Chadd.1 point

They are doing pipe construction on my street. Been going on since late August. Where I live is near a cross street that's often used as a shortcut to avoid a 3 way intersection nearby. It's a one way to alleviate some of that. There's "no thru traffic signs up" but off to the side to allow residents to get to their house. Today they are working right on the corner and put the sign right in the middle. because the earth movers are in the middle of the street. So many times just today I've seen cars pull right up to the sign and then sit there confused as to what to do because the sign is blocking the road. After about 20 seconds they begin the "back up of shame" and turn around, now turning their shortcut into an even longer ordeal. It's fun to watch actually. I saw this last week at the Free Press marathon in Detroit. Roads were blocked off for runners. So many times I'd see cars pull up to the barricade then just sit there dumbfounded as to why nobody will move it for them so they can cross. One person asked me. "I need to get over there, can you move that?" Do people just think these things are suggestions?1 point

I really appreciate players who are successful with skill and basketball IQ. But at the NBA level, sometimes being more skilled and smarter doesn’t cut it. The Pistons are below average athletically at 4 of the 5 starting positions. And Ivey doesn’t necessarily use his plus athleticism that well in all aspects of the game. Pistons need to start Duren over Stewart to help offset the below average athleticism from the rest of the starters. It’s needed for some rim protection and for rebounding at both ends. Another game tonite where Stewart is wildly outmatched from a physical standpoint against Porzingis. Now Stewart is stronger and is smart defensively. But smarts won’t prevent the bigger, taller guy from getting rebounds over him even when he boxes out properly. Duren gives the starters a better chance to compete off the glass, at both ends.1 point

Are we really worse than preseason expectations given the injuries and tougher than anticipated schedule? They had 5 starters out against Dallas on offense, including the top 4 offensive weapons. Goff isn't the kind of QB that can succeed without weapons. It's who we thought he was and why we need to replace him. And the O-Line hasn't had the projected starting 5 on the field at the same time all year. You can blame Holmes for drafting an injured WR and then signing another in free agency though. On defense they were without Levi, Romeo, Harris, Walker, Comminsky, and just got back Jacobs and Paschel. The defense actually played their base game it looked like in spite of that. The combined records of the teams that they have lost to is 23-10, not the last place looking schedule it looked like. They need to get healthy and add depth, period. There were some very good signs on defense from Aiden, Okudah, Joseph, and Paschel on Sunday to build on. And when ARB, Swift and Jamo are on the field at the same time the offense will put up points i am sure, even with Goff.1 point

If we had an in house replacement that I was confident in could match Candy then sure dump him but I'm not. Let's not forget that Candy had well over an .800 OPS his previous 200 games prior to this year and led the league in doubles just last year. Also it will be his age 29 season next year so still in his prime years. I just don't see anybody on the FA market for his price or in house that has any better of chance of putting up a plus season than Candy.1 point
