  2. So, earlier today I signed all of the papers to close on a condo. I've been keeping it mostly quiet because finding a home in my price range in this city (especially downtown) is akin to finding a unicorn anyplace but in a fantasy novel, and the process dragged on and on. It's the first home I've ever owned, and for the first time in my adult life I'll have a proper bedroom. Better late than never! 🙂

  10. Well, and there’s something I hate about our sports culture. Georgia could smoke someone in a playoff game and the team that loses will declared as “sucks”. Sucks? They’re the #4 team in the nation and will be declared as “sucks” if they lose decisively. They’ll have the 4th best resume (and I understand there is sometimes debate on this, just set it aside for now) and have the misfortune of one bad game and then be discarded as some 4th best team in the MAC West. Makes no sense.

  14. Except there is no reason for the ladder to be there. Giannis wasn't stopping anyone from doing their job. They simply put it there to fuck with him. Even the Philly fans were chanting "let him shoot." I heard the ladder is being fined $15,000 for flopping.

  15. I love Brantley as a player, but he had too much trouble staying on the field even when he was younger and now he's old.

  16. This is the point. I am pleased that decisions that should have been made, in some cases, years ago, are finally being made. The fastest way to make a mess of any organization is to delay or deny making obvious decisions swiftly. The Tigers have raised delaying obvious decisions to an art form. Scott Harris is changing that and will change organizational culture for the better if this continues. He is going to churn the utility grade players like they are butter, and very few (maybe only one?) will be on the roster by opening day. There are plenty of Tiger fans and likely members of the Tigers organization proper that have been conditioned to accept players like the Castros to be average to better than average ball players, which they obviously are not. Certain notions such as these must be dispelled and exiled from Tigers Nation so that the real work of fixing this franchise can happen.

  19. I wouldnt call the cuts yesterday obvious, fwiw. At least on here given the back and forth discussion about whether it was better to keep Candy or not. What I do think we can conclude so far is that the new guy isn't gonna just fall back on doing the safe thing... it would have been easy and safe (and frankly, the Avila move) to bring back Candy and at least one of the Castros rather than risk having to fill in their spots with someone else. Our expectations as fans should evolve accordingly.

  20. could be a move back toward the traditional concept where your utility guys are better defenders. We've gotten used to the fact that Avila had moved away from it.

  26. to a large extent this a comparison of problems with much different time scale solutions. Economies can bounce back and be built up by the quarter. The planets align to provide an opportunity like this to help free a population from tyranical government and incorporate it to the 'West' (a poor term but for lack of better shorthand..) maybe once every few decades. As I write the above I am immediately skeptical of it's neo-con tilt, but TBF, the neo-con program for Iraq didn't fail for it's concept as much as for its projection of a cultural framework onto Iraqi society that was too different from what was actually there. One assumes that being less culturally distant, we comprehend what we are doing in Ukraine more clearly. We hope.

  31. At one time, GOP had a sober grown up faction. W Bush and Mitt Romney were part of that. You might have had policy arguments against that and I could respect that. 9/11 and the GWOT became a patriotism hammer for lazy pols. Fox and other Conservative media used that hammer against all dems Citizens United gave the plutocrats way too much power The digital economy gave plutocrats way too much money Putin got himself a bunch of influence agents by giving the NRA, etc. a lot of money The NRA pushed an extreme agenda and had to keep pushing that to avoid being called squishes by more extreme elements. The confluence of all the above put Trump, a super clown who appealed to the wrestling and meat head PED snakeoil crowd as the head of the GOP when many decent alternates existed (although not/not Ted MF Cruz). Trump was dangerously inept. Could not identify the nuclear triad. Maybe it was best he could not Trump followed the torch-lit mob and would not correct the mob's excesses. He was way too into the TV spectacle. I still think Hillary Clinton was and is a terrible candidate and I bet Obama didn't trust her as far as he could toss her. I won't vote for ANY GOP candidate who fails to repudiate Trump. That goes all the way down to dog catcher. I am reevaluating a lot of my previous world views. I still believe in collective security, free trade and the rule of law. I can see clearly how the post-2015 GOP doesn't. They only believe in power for themselves and their plutocrat friends like Putin and the Shaykhs.
