Good thing Opening Day isn't 21 Dec. People are used to Avila signing somebody to fill the hole early in the offseason, wiping his hands and declaring mission accomplished.3 points

I think it's perfectly fine to have disagreements with people on a message board. It's even fine to once in a while get a little heated with the discussion. But everyone please remember that this is, ultimately, supposed to be a place where we can discuss our favorite team(s). If you find yourself constantly getting upset or angry at any given posted, I would highly recommend using the 'ignore' feature. For the record even though this post is coming right after NTLion, it is NOT directed at him in particular. There were quite a few people throwing shots around in this weeks thread and that's just not enjoyable for anyone one. If you can't find yourself responding in a civil manner to someone else, perhaps don't respond at all. If you can't help responding when you see a specific poster, please using the ignore feature.3 points

I actually think they are playing with house money this season. Anything good from this point forward is awesome. Expectations will be much higher next season with 4 picks in the first two rounds, a full season of Jamo and a year of seasoning for this year’s rookie class.3 points

It also helps to read a lot of posts in a 13 year old whiney girl voice2 points

C-Span callers are one of my windows into how people with different political views think.... and sometimes it's wild..... Over the last couple days I've heard these both quite a bit: 1) There's no one on the Jan 6 committee defending Trump so it's biased. 2) Why was Ray Epps not brought in? Facts: 1) Trump was literally subpoenaed by the committee and refused , as did many people who could also defend Trump. Not to mention that Kevin McCarthy tanked a version of the committee that would have had 50/50 representation across parties. 2) Ray Epps was brought in. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/jan-6-committee-dismisses-ray-epps-conspiracy-theory-issues-new-n12873352 points

game threads are places where people vent. some people have schticks they feel the need to perpetrate every game. others have obnoxious shit they feel the need to post every single day. such is the internet.2 points

I have over 50 tax returns in my history. There isn't a thing in any of them from which I need protection from disclosure. How did my life go so wrong? The only reason I would have any concern is that the information in a tax return may be useful to people attemping cyber identity theft, not over any of the facts themselves.1 point

that $24M will actually cost the Mets $45.6M total ($22.8M per year). I know Cohen is loaded but that's a lot to pay for McCann! I would ask for a lot more than mid-level prospect; and offer the Mets something actually useful, like Foley or Faedo.1 point

I don’t want McCann on the team under any circumstances. Hard pass.1 point

Lorenzen signed; 40 man roster full, so Clemens, Short, Ibanez and Madris would be next on chopping block when another deal made1 point

His attachment to a yahoo like Patricia certainly should ding his credibility with anyone who's been following the Lions and seen Patricia up close.1 point

with the rash of serious arm injuries plaguing major league baseball (probably like never before), it's a simple supply and demand dynamic with starting pitchers. The salaries being doled out to Boyd, Lorenzen, Lyles, Eflin, Walker, etc... are proof of that. Teams need innings, regardless of the quality of them. And are paying dearly for it. So comparing what Boyd received, for example, to a position player of similar perceived status or quality, is not an apples to apples comparison.1 point

What keeps me on an even keel around here is that I think so little of most of you. 😱 In all seriousness, the quest to “be right” can be overwhelming and that inability to being open to other viewpoints is often where our conflict arises. I agree that the ignore feature even if just temporary is a valuable thing.1 point

I don’t know if I’ve ever seen anyone so out of their depth with running something. It’s pretty fascinating to watch.1 point

I'm 56. This is the first time in my life that I've felt optimistic and confident in a Lions team to play a competitive game regardless of opponent. And I believe that will only grow once they use some high picks to shore up their defensive deficiencies. For me, the difference is that there are competent adults in charge, including the owner. I'd say "Restore the Roar," but there really hasn't been anything to restore in my lifetime. "Fear the Roar"???1 point

He's gone from understudy of villain to worser villain. He's Uday Hussein to Brett Fafrev's Saddam. The world would be a better place without him. Unless he wants to come play for the Lions.1 point

Just enjoy the ride. Personally, I'm putting that SOL mentality on the backburner and am just living in the moment with this team with complete disregard for what happened the last 60+ years of completely different teams that have no bearing on how this current group will do. With that said, I can understand why some Lions fans would have PTSD from the past and be skeptical still.1 point
-
The best thing about the Bulls situation. They only keep their pick if it is 1-4. 5-30 and it goes to Orlando.1 point

How is acquiring Boyd and Lorenzon a slow off-season? That's 40% of their rotatioln and two pitchers that are ready to break out into all-star seasons.1 point

so much internet ink spilled on a nothingburger like jeimar candelario. must be a slow offseason.1 point

For me it doesn't have anything to do with it being the Lions. The fans may have long memories of bad experiences, the players don't. I don't care who you are in the NFL, winning 6 straight at any time isn't a cinch, less so with 2 of last 3 on the road and less than that with one in the cold in GB. Sure they may do it, but they may not. I'd put it at about 50/50 - like it would be for almost any mid-level or even upper tier NFL team asked to do the same. If they get to 9-8 and end up at home, I'll still call it great season coming after 3 wins, and be excited to see what Holmes can do with another set of picks. If they get further, I'll still be rooting.1 point

Our Rams pick back to number 4 after the their loss tonight. The Broncos currently are sitting at 3 and play the Rams next week so needless to say that's a big one draft pick wise. Considering the Broncos are also giving up their 1st round pick there isn't a ton of incentive for them to tank the game for pick position so don't got to worried about that.1 point
-
everyone is excited. you can be excited while also being nervous because youve seen the lions fail before in similar situations. its ok to want them to win - even to think they should win - while also being scared they wont win.1 point

yes, but you can admit you were wrong and not be an obnoxious ass about it.1 point

in 2000 the lions were 9-6 and only needed to beat a 4 win bears team with cade mcnown at qb to clinch a playoff berth. at home. first, lions fans knew because the game was not sold out. second, what we all knew would happen did happen as the lions lost to the bears on a last second 50+ yard field goal and they were out of the playoffs. after the game, wcf cleaned house and hired matt millen to direct the franchise. we spent the next 20 years wandering in the wilderness that was bad even by lions standards. so let us not assume that this team is beating anyone until it actually does. /oldmanrant1 point

anyone with any knowledge of lions history (or league history) should be wary of this team winning 2 of 3 on the road to clinch a playoff spot.1 point

I forgot the Panthers are only one game out of the division lead held by Tampa. Although "chase" may be a strong word for what is going on in the NFC North. If the Lions can get by the Panthers, it sets up a New Year's Eve of watching Michigan-Tulane followed by a New Year's Day of an 8-7 Lions team hosting the Bears.1 point
-
I think that division winners should get an auto-bid but I would be okay with not allowing them a home game if they finish with a record below .500. If the NFC South is won at 7-10, they still won their division. But let them go on the road to the #2 seed.1 point
