  1. No offense, but I take an internet poster’s opinion of ERod’s “loyalty and teamsmanship” with a huge grain of salt. It may be very accurate, but is still just an opinion.

  3. I have been off the grid in terms of my interest level in this team this season — and all sports related passions — but from a distance I have enjoyed this latest run. My son who just turned 21 a few weeks ago has now become a true Tigers fan, a man of the cloth, whose young heart is bursting with love for this team, and he’s talking about the playoffs with an endearing sincerity that makes me fear for his sanity and well-being. He listens to all the games on his phone and he’ll call me and tell me passionately about all the good things that have happened as of late. Having been there myself, I have no right to tell him that he’s kind of like the school nerd who’s trying to get the hottest cheerleader in school to date him and that the results will be humiliating. Right now he’s excited that the MLB free game of the day on Friday will be the Tigers against the Mariners and he wants to watch it with me and I told him that it will most likely be blacked out because we live in the Mariners TV area and he doesn’t believe me because he can’t believe MLB would be that mean. He’s that sincere. He’s like a bumpkin who’s in Paris for the first time in the 1880s to hang out with the Impressionist painters and when he sees the pretty prostitutes on the Rue des Lorettes he thinks they’re just nice girls who honestly like him and want to have a good time. I want to tell him “been there done that and learned my lesson” but it’s something he just has to learn for himself. Cheers to you all.

  4. You are right. I do live in a very dark place. It hasn’t been that way for long, only since corrupt dementia Joe Biden took over. What is sad is that the policies and actions of Biden and his party have jeopardized the safety of my family and every American in the US. I stopped by a gun shop today to get ammunition. It was so busy that people had to wait outside. One good thing and probably the only good thing about Biden is he is a great gun salesman.

  5. I am surprised that the writer of that puff piece mentioned the game when Ibanez started in right field, that almost caused a loss. And without looking it up I think that since then he has started every game at third base, which is what should happen whether the pitcher is lefthanded or righthanded. Not a chess piece in other words. The difference this year is that he isn't playing chess with Harold, Willi, Reyes and Barnhart.

  6. Not sure if this is posted to the public... I don't think I am logged in, so it should be... Holmes and Dan Miller did a film review of the draft picks for season ticket holders that was pretty cool. They provided this link to the recording. 7. According to ESPN's WAR E-Rod now leads all pitchers in baseball and is 3rd among all players only trailing Acuna and Franco by .1 and .2 respectively.

  8. My issue isn't with covering him or even giving him this town hall, it's how they executed it. This was not an event that was supposed to inform the audience or get tough answers, it was basically a televised rally for the former President with an audience filled with people who are already in the tank for him. The only real saving grace is that there's a decent chance the ratings weren't all that good anyway (he was going up against NBA/NHL playoffs and there's still a ton of Trump fatigue outside of the hardcore base) and that every time he ends up in the news, his poll #'s among the broader electorate tends to go down.

  9. You can cover Trump as he's the probable GOP nominee, until someone outpolls him, but it should be noted every time he's under indictment, liable for sexual assault, and encouraged an insurrection in an attempt to stage a coup. Those 3 things are all true and can be said each time he's brought up in a story.

  21. These issues are so ripe for rumor and speculation and the "employer" really can't say anything. I've dealt with it as a manager and it's frustrating when people insist on knowing more than I could legally divulge. It's private. There's rules. Remember that time when Magglio was going thru stuff and it turns out his wife had a cancer scare?

  22. There is going to be an extended Spotify playlist with a bunch of artists that I did not have time for and The Robinson boys will be on that list. It's an indie-oriented show meant to highlight songs and artists that you don't get to hear during the week (but probably should)

  23. Many studies have shown that members of households with guns are much more likely to be killed by a gun than those from households without guns. Here's one: https://med.stanford.edu/news/all-news/2022/04/handguns-homicide-risk.html

  27. If this team finds itself near the top of the division approaching the deadline, I am starting to lean more toward them trying to figure out a way to hold onto ERod or even get him extended beyond this year..... and while I understand the incentives for trading regardless of outcome, there's also the fact that winning, even in this bad division, can be used as a selling point to free agents in the upcoming couple of free agent classes. That this team sees this division as winnable and will do what it takes to compete. Frankly, as much as we complain about the front office/ownership during this last offseason, the fact that the product on the field was so bad last year was no doubt an impediment to building from the outside. But we have a long way to go until we get to that point.... even if they are competing and do decide to trade ERod, I just hope they do so in a way that they utilize the leverage of their position to extract more talent and/or talent that can be usable during this season and not down the road.

  28. The idea that CNN's CEO thinks it's the media's job to "make news" seems like a good reason to take the remote and put it on just about any other channel. (Fox/Newsmax/OANN nothwithstanding)

  41. The other part about illegal immigration and the spike in asylum seekers (they are conflated a lot but are two different things, fwiw) is that the debate is completely uncentered around actually fixing the problem and more about short term band aids. Militarizing the border and forcing asylum seekers to apply for asylum in other jurisdictions, those are band aids.... they don't solve the problem of people making the choice to trek 1000s of miles to try to get to the United States. The only real way the problem is truly solved is through policy change and cooperation with origin countries that involve helping to raise the standard of living enough that it dissuades people from deciding to make that trek.... but OTOH, the people who are most animated by the border tend to be the same people who want to indiscriminately cut foreign aid and think it's all a waste of money, so my guess is that we will be dealing with the status quo regardless of who is in office going forward.

  43. HaHaHa. Any fool is safer to have the guns gone than to try and manuever his 50yr fat slow rear end, shaky hands and failing eyesight to 'protect his family' by trying to take down an assaultant who is younger, faster, is probably better armed and has all the initiative. Other than that, you go with that strategy. Good luck being the *maybe* one in 10 who end up lucky enough to come out on the better end of that confrontation. In the real world the facts are clear. You are far more likely to end up with your own wife or child or neighbor dead at the hands of your own weapon either by accident or loss of your own self-control than you are of ever taking on that scumbag immigrant. Those are real facts, not your Man-Boy fantasies.
