  1. they threw gibbs a screen against gb and he dropped it. as a matter of fact, he's dropped multiple passes this year, slipped multiple times, and missed multiple cuts. he's very talented. he's also a rookie. give him time. montgomery is playing very well right now. by the end of the year, i expect gibbs will be playing better too and get more chances.

  2. I have a good wife. We went last night and are going tomorrow. This morning around 10 she says “you should find a ticket”. So I did. $25 in the last row in RF. Definitely a playoff level crowd today. But with that you get people who don’t know what they are doing.

  4. Every GM will get criticism. I think Harris has received relatively little and I don't think he should have gotten much criticism at this point. I do think if Harris or Greenberg or whoever is considered responsible for building the roster will receive more flack if they don't make significant moves with all the money coming off the books this off-season.

  5. The other part of my dissatisfaction with Kaline was that the DH rule was so recent, and a lot of fans including me hated it. So when he got his last 150 hits as a DH my feeling was that it was cheap, all the other greats got 3,000 by playing a defensive position too, it was an important part of their durability.

  6. You have to understand, For people like me and Edman, seeing arbitrary end points is like getting kicked in the nuts.

  7. I hope someone tracks down where his money is coming from. That should be a much more interesting story than his campaign.

  8. My favourite Terry Francona story, oft-repeated, one more time. Sean Casey, playing for the Red Sox, was thrown out twice at second base, trying to stretch a single, within one week. After the second one he was visibly upset in the dugout, in a rage, and so Francona put his arm around Casey's shoulder in a fatherly way, and walked him up the runway towards the clubhouse. When they were safely out of earshot of the other players, Francona turned to Casey and asked: "are you sure you don't have polio?" That's why I love Terry Francona.

  13. Yes, we can't not be in a tie for 2nd even if we lose tomorrow..plus we have the head-to-head with Cleveland

  14. I’m not sure what exactly they have planned for tomorrow, but when they planned this weekend months they probably wanted to make sure something was done on Saturday in case of a rainout Sunday.

  15. Taking the whole season, there isn't much to see, but break it down and their runs allowed per game has fallen from 4.85 pre ASG to 4.3 since, which is solidly below league average, so if you are looking at the current state of the staff, they are doing well. Olsen, GL, and Skubal have been upgrades over Turnbull, Boyd, Faedo,

  19. I know he's old, broken down, making too much money and just a shell of his former self but I'm going to miss Miggy. At least, the glory days.

  20. Man I wish I would’ve recorded this! Thanks for everything Miggy!

  21. I am assuming that it was planned from the beginning that Greenberg or someone like him would be brought in at this point. I am expecting a much more active off-season this year and will be critical if it's not the case. Then again, I might also be critical if I don't like the moves!

  22. Yes. Improvements should come by just reducing or replacing the AB’s that McKinstry, Ibanez, Baddoo and Miggy have accumulated.

  23. This is my timeline... So my first memories are pretty vague on any of the 60's crew... Just the end of their careers that didn't really register... My first REAL memory of the Tigers that really stuck... was THE BIRD!!! Mark Fidrych, and then the very next year (or two) a crapload of kids coming up all at once in Trammell & Whitaker & Morris & Petry & Thompson & Kemp & Parrish & Rozema and shortly thereafter Kirk Gibson. This might explain my fascination with all the kids in the minor leagues and getting them graduated to Detroit.

  24. He's at the level of ace short-term, but he needs to show he can pitch for a full-season before he's considered an ace.

  25. ? He’s probably a top-25 pitcher in the MLB. He’s not a mid-back of rotation guy for almost any team. I think you’re selling him short.

  26. exactly. people see gibbs in the game and prepare for his receiving and the screen game.

  28. Unfortunately, That is all I remember about him. It wasn't until after he retired that I realized how great he was. There are probably kids growing up today that are having the same experience with Cabrera.

  31. Man, the only thing worse than arbitrary endpoints is combining it with arbitrary statistic choices.

  32. Why? He was one of our better hitters this season. For all of the consternation that everyone seemed to have at the beginning of the season, my AAT was pretty good. Not HOF good, but he had some key hits playing part time. I’m glad he was on the team.

  33. There is more than enough evidence to say to the Tigers brass that this should be the last time Wentz ever wears the old English D.

  34. Or it's just that the Bush administration was one of the most generally incompetent and incoherent in ante-Trump memory. Bush's legacy is the beneficiary of Trump having redefined incompetence to a level that has pushed the Bush admin back to a perception of normalcy.

  35. The call by a base umpire correlates so well to the bat crossing the midpoint line versus not that they might as well just codify it, and maybe, instead of appealing to the umpire, appeal to the camera.

  36. What did happen was that he was a replacement level player for seven years padding his counting stats. The 500/3000/600./300 numbers are just arbitary cutoffs designed to eliminate guys like Ruth and Williams while keeping Cabrera in the group. Cabrera was a great hitter, easily the best Tigers hitter of my lifetime. However, he is nowhere close to an all-time great like Aaron or Frank Robinson. At one point, he looked like he was going to end up in that class, but he didn't have the lasting power. There is noting shameful about being in the class of Frank Thomas and Jim Thome though.

  37. I've looked for anything about this more than once and never found anything more than it's the Umpires judgement whether the batter offered. The rule book offers no guidance on what a swing is. Conventional practice has coalesced around the bat crossing the plate, or angle of the wrist but none of that is actually in the book. https://theathletic.com/354170/2018/05/15/whats-the-rulebook-definition-of-a-swing-in-baseball-there-isnt-one-but-there-should-be/

  38. He seems to be able to deflect that like Ortiz and steroid use. Most Tigers fans consider him a likeable guy and kind of forget about the off-season incidents. I don't get the feeling he is viewed as a bad guy nationally either. It seems like he and his wife were equally responsible for the dometic abuse. It's not like he went home and beat the crap out of her. It sounded like she did much of the damage. It definitely seemed like he had serious drinking problem though.

  40. Appreciate it! It is honestly something I really enjoy doing and am definitely going to miss the every morning check of how the boys did. I mean we could close it and then create a 2024 version once ST hits as I am guessing most info around other things would be posted in the off-season thread.
