I don’t think I have felt like this since game 163. (Tigers/twins reference in the Lions forum)3 points

Gonna remind people in as many spots as I can before they fly off the handle over the Tigers still staying out of the deep end of this pool despite Harris and Metzler taking over. Most of the high end deals signed today were agreed to 2-3 years ago. Even if they wanted to reverse course, that isn't happening. The new facility and ensuing upgrades in the DR are no small investment, likely exceeding a year or two of Miguel Cabrera's salary when all is said and done, which should help the churn of some of these players, but we are talking 3-4 years before that machine is up and running, and another 5+ until those guys are knocking on the big league door. There really are no fast answers down there, short of a shift in priority in the types of players signing to five-digit bonuses you want.2 points

stafford was fine in that press conference. people are trying to make a mountain out of a molehill. also, other than that ridiculously obvious offsides call that probably cost the lions 3 points, the refs really helped the lions. they had a pass interference call on the last play (a d a few other ones too), a borderline roughing call on hutch/mcneill they didnt call, and a potential unnecessary roughness call on kirby when he took out higbee's knees. i talk a lot about the refs ****ing the lions, but they really helped them last night. the benefits of playing at home against a non-marquee team.2 points

This could have gone into several different threads but since I opened this one, this is where it lands. Chad Smith plays along with a song he's never heard before:2 points

That's a little rough from Rams fans. I thought Stafford was a f***ing warrior tonight. He got the hell beat out of him and was still dropping dimes all over the place. He's the least of the reasons they lost2 points

The crowd forced that 1st timeout in the 2nd half and possibly the 2nd as well, pointing that out cause there are some that say that the home crowd really doesn't make that much of a difference but those two "wasted" timeouts can attest that they certainly can.2 points

This move has nothing to do with playing Gallinari or Muscala or them helping the team this year. It was Weaver trying to get off the Bagley contract he shouldn't have signed and get more expiring contracts so he can be a player when someone else wants to sell their overpaid "Star". Problem is he's terrible at asset management so he got fleeced again. He gave up draft picks to get Bagley and now had to give up 2 more to move off of him. And before we say that 2nd rounders don't mean anything, they actually have more value with the new cap rules because apron teams can't add players the way they used to. Also, the 2025 pick is the Piston's own, meaning it'll be a good one. On top of that, if you look at what the Wizards community is saying, both of these guys were potential buy-out candidates. They're healthy DNPs on the wrong side of the their career who are shooting terribly this year. So the Wizards got 2 first round picks for nothing and all we got was 1 less year of the Bagley contract that shouldn't have existed. The scary part of it is we all know Troy doesn't play in Free Agency. This money isn't going to be here for the next GM. He's going to use a huge chunk of it in trades before the deadline or before free agency. Get ready for moves from a bad GM trying to save his job. Here comes Blake Griffin again. This trade really means nothing other than proving Troy's poor asset management skills yet again, but the thing that makes me the most sad is that we made a trade and yet Killian and Wiseman are still on the team getting significant rotation minutes.1 point

I agree on the pass interference and roughness, but they let some of those go on the Rams, also so I don't think it over benefited either team. However, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the tackle on Higbee.1 point

I really want the crowd in the next game to get a fire Weaver chant going.1 point

it has nothing to do with that. youre just looking at what you think danilo galinari is (tall, can shoot 3s) and thinking "hey, the pistons need shooting and floor spacers so that will help." yet, he doesnt shoot 3s much anymore. he doesnt play much anymore. he cant defend anyone who can move anymore. like isaiah stewart, teams arent likely to defend him much on the perimeter because his shot is inconsistent and he cant make an offensive move once teams close down. in theory, this is better than marvin bagley. in reality, this means even more james wiseman at the 5 and less offense than what bagley brought (bagley was actually decent on offense this year). i understand what you think galinari is, but i dont think he is that player anymore. its like joe harris: he used to be good. he is no longer that player. this move was made for contracts with an outside idea of galinari getting playing time so he can possibly get a contract next year (the boss' son is his agent. see trading three second round picks to take deivydas). not to mention trading away two second round picks to make this move, one of which is the pistons 2025 pick which will be very high on the draft board. once again, a terrible use of assets by a gm who has made a career of terribly using assets.1 point

I don't think punting on 4th and 14 was the right call for the Rams. It reminds me of when Andy Reid went for it on 4th and 25 in week one. First, you have the players to convert it. It's not like you're a one-dimensional offense and rely exclusively on the run. Stafford, Puka, and Kupp were carving us up at times, and had already converted at least one 3rd and 15 earlier in the game. Second, the relative benefit isn't there. They punted from the 44 and DPJ went out of bounds at the 17. So they gained 27 yards of field position. With about 4 minutes left and the Rams having only one timeout and the two-minute warning, no matter where the Lions got the ball, the name of the game was getting 2-3 first downs. Getting it at the 44 might marginally increase the odds we kick a long field goal to go up 4, but that would take at least one first down anyway. In other words, you're probably losing anyway. Whether your defense makes a stand at the 44 or the 17, it wouldn't matter. They'd need to do it. Give your offense one more shot. The calculus is a little different if Ford Field doesn't force two timeouts. At that point, you can be selective in using those and make the Lions stretch the field more.1 point

I remember a time when we traded FG for TDs... it's nice to see the script flipped!1 point

Which would be bigger and better demons to exorcise on the way to a Super Bowl appearance - Eddie Murray’s wide right FG attempt or Sterling Sharpe getting all alone in the final minute.1 point
