  1. I wouldn't want to give up the draft pick for a one year rental at this stage for the Tigers. Sure, draft picks are lottery tickets, but that makes more sense at this point.

  2. yes the Palestinians have been screwed, but how you chose to fight back matters. Gandhi got the Brits out of India without acting like Hamas, Mandela broke the Apartheid government without acting like Hamas, MLK fought hard to keep his movement non-violent, rejecting the Panther's militant direction. There is a level at which it is unavoidable that populations have to be responsible for the outcomes in their midst. It is never fair on the individual level, but that is how the world works.

  3. I said something similar to Tater recently on a different point, but not everything about the 2024 election has to be cross referenced with or filtered through an election that happened eight years ago. There have been a lot of changes under the hood since then. The results in SC that happened two days ago are more relevant than what happened eight years ago to me, and when you look at those results and what some of the exit polling suggested, it's pretty clear that Donald Trump will likely continue the trend of bleeding support from traditionally GOP areas in the suburbs in 2024. It doesn't guarantee anything about the outcome of this upcoming election, obviously, but the demographic changes on that level are real. And there are places in Michigan (Oakland and Kent Counties probably the best examples) where that's likely to be on full-display.

  4. The another thing I try to remember is that the primary process provides the luxury of casting a grandstanding vote within a forum in which the cost of doing so is so low as to be basically nonexistent, and where the benefit is social media fame. That’s not so true of the general election, and come November, I would expect that all these grandstanders will cast their vote in a serious manner, with the possible exception of one high-profile newsmaker in Congress.

  6. I work for a great young company (only 10 years old), been here for about a year. The owner is about 55 and his daughter is the COO, she is 28. We have an onsite personal trainer and we are encouraged to take an hour or so a day to make use of the on site gym (on the clock outside of our hour lunch break). I am one of the older employees at 47 and salaried. The hiring process is in depth, It took 3 month of multiple interviews to be hired. It has been the best career choice of my life! We have signs all over reminding us we should treat the business like we own it, great culture. The young people here are motivated and such a teamwork rich environment. Ha! I just got this email as I was typing this, best job ever: Hi Team! You’ve all been working HARD these first two months of the year, we want so show our appreciation by celebrating Employee Appreciation Day with a 2-hour (paid) early dismissal. Friday, March 1st you can plan to head out 2 hours earlier than your normal quitting time, and get a jumpstart on enjoying your weekend! Thanks for all you do, Adriene & Rob

  10. Not to disrupt your train of thought here... But I am COMPLETELY ignoring this "Bibi" fellow and concentrating on other, more important issues. Specifically, I could give a **** about Bibi. What I care about is: 1) That Israel is able to live in peace without further terrorist attack from Gazan Hamas Palestinian murderers (however you want to name them). That is EXTREMELY high on my list. 2) That Hamas terrorists hand over all of the hostages they've taken. No "but, but, but" here. They are contemptible ****ing terrorists for this. Hand them over. 3) That Hamas no longer rules Gaza. Gazans deserve better government. They don't deserve an idiot "David" throwing rocks and missiles at an overwhelming "Goliath" on the other side of the fence.. literally, INVITING an invasion. They don't deserve a terrorist government that STEALS 50% of incoming goods (food, concrete, steel, gasoline, medicines, money, etc...) to line their own pockets and fund the idiotic idea that they can create tunnels and bombs that will allow them to defeat an Army of Goliaths. Are they ****ing stupid? Or what? 4) Gazans deserve better. They deserve an immediate ceasefire (with an exchange of Israeli women & children hostages for Hamas terrorists) so they can get immediate humanitarian aid into Gaza. They're desperate at this point, Israel needs to consider this desperation. They deserve a land without Israel overlords (like they've had since 2004) but also without a terrorist government that INVITES the overlords to invade their land on a constant basis because Hamas refuses to stay on their ****ing side of the fence. They deserve to live in peace, with plenty of food, freedoms within their territory, good government, good (work) opportunities, oh, and good beaches too. 5) Israelis deserve better. They deserve to live their lives without fear of being murdered in their homes. All of those issues are prime concerns. Not once have I mentioned Bibi in those concerns. What is with your fascination with Bibi? Who gives a **** about Bibi? It's the Israeli's and Gazans that I am concerned about. That's it.

  11. I've noticed the message is completely different from Trump vs 2016. Trump offered simple solutions to complex problems like build a wall to stop immigrations or tariffs to bring back manufacturing jobs. Now his rallies are just rants of him airing grievances and how poorly he's being treated. In 2016 he had a few politically savvy people but they are gone now and it shows.

  12. Biden has said there will be conditions on military. He has been pretty clear about. Just stop with this unconditional aid. Biden has never said it. Playing your game, if Dearborn had invaded Southfield and raped women, beheaded police, burned people alive in their homes, took hundreds of hostages back to Dearborn, paraded the corpses and severed heads of the people they killed down Michigan Ave to cheering fans, I sure as **** would expect a response and I would be begging Detroit to let in refugees instead of demanding Southfield just agree to a ceasefire that Dearborn broke and won't agree to and just go home.

  13. If the Canadian Mounties parachuted into lollapalooza and raped and beheaded festival goers, pillaged the south side of Chicago and burned people alive in their homes, took hundreds captive, and paraded the corpses and severed heads of the people they killed through the streets of Toronto, I would expect a swift and forceful response. Like Israel, the US doesn't need help from another country to level Canada to the ground and I would be damn sure no terrorists supporting Canucks halfway around the world would influence my response.

  14. To the extent there was discussion of it on Twitter, it seemed to be more explaining it away. For my mind though, a pseudo-incumbent / de facto party leader only drawing 59% is "four siren emoji" material, even in an open primary.

  15. This runs back to the polling issue as well. I didn't see word one in the NYT or WaPo about the polling miss in SC. Now it's true that Haley not being able to win her own state is the bigger immediate story, and Trump's margin of victory on one level made the polling irrelevant. Yet it's Trump's continuing strength in national polling that is the bigger overall story of the election and if that is illusory, that is potentially much bigger story overall than Haley and SC. But it lies exactly in the black hole of weakness in American journalism. The polling story is complex, confusing, highly technical and even involves numbers.

  16. I jumped out of my couch as soon as I saw him take off... Might have watched this 35 times since. The only comparable thing I can think of in recent memory is when JD came off the DL and pinch hit against Chris Sale, and first pitch HR to CF. This goal only took a few seconds but it felt like 20 minutes. It was slightly off screen but you hear Ken, then you see it's a breakaway, then you see it's Kane, then realizes it's Chicago, then you say "No way, can't happen can it?" Then it happens. Gotta say I think Chicago fans had a good day. It's not like their team is going anywhere. They got to celebrate Chelios, say hello again to Kane, and see him do something remarkable. No harm done for them, even if it's against Detroit.

  17. It's worth noting too that the group shifted right in 2022.... even though Gretch and Co won their elections by 10-12, the Arab vote shifted right by something like 15-20 points alone during those same elections. In general, there's a real imbalance in how Trump's negatives or issues get framed in media versus Biden's.... as much as people talk about liberal media bias, the coverage of this race thus far makes Trump seem like a much stronger candidate that he actually is.

  18. They never think about things like the fact that they'd be protecting their 2A right to use bows and arrows without the arms factories of the east coast, the steel production of the midwest, and the road and rails provided by DC taxing authority. "Yeah but other than *that*, what have the Romans done for us?"

  20. Reimer has played four games in 2024 and has allowed a total of four goals. Yes, we have to worry about Lyon being overworked, but maybe something changed at Christmas as far as tightening up a bit. In the 21 games since then, have allowed 3 or fewer 17 times. Here's what the standings were like on New Year's morning. 15-4-2 since then. They had started off 14-8-3 before the 3-8-1 stretch to end 2023 almost killed them. But I think there were extenuating factors that makes the 3-8-1 the outlier, not the strong record before and after that. Larkin got viciously injured, Perron got suspended for defending him, and those two exclusions coincided with a hectic schedule of 9 games in 15 days. The team fell apart, but righted itself after the holidays. I don't expect much if any regression the final 24 games. True, the recent 5-game winning streak might be a bit misleading, as 3 of those 5 wins were in OT, which I don't value as much even though the standings do. But two 5-goal wins in there as well, over middle of the pack Calgary and St. Louis teams. Finally, goal differentials on the season for the Wings vs the teams they're in the mix with. Toronto +35 Carolina +28 Detroit + 25 Tampa + 5 Philly + 2 NJ -12 Washington -31 Pittsburgh +15 NYI -28

  24. I looked up Rectenwald and he sounds like a real prize. 🌰🌰🌰🌰 What would be even better than an Libertarian to muddy the water for Trump and the current GOP would be a good old fashion segregationist. That would split the MAGA vote better than probably anything else. Where is a Geroge Wallace or David Duke when you actually could use one?

  27. Back to the EC, the gentlemen who devised the system did so out of compromise. It during a time when only white male property owners could vote. They didn't trust the rabble to make a direct decision on who should hold the highest office in the new nation. There were no political parties and the state legislatures for the most part chose the electors. That whole system and premise is long gone. Most states now require all electors vote for the person receiving a plurality of the votes in their state. To me, that's not democratic. It effectively disenfranchises half the voters in the state. Why should I even bother to vote in most states since the outcome is already decided before the election.

  28. I like the single long term appointment idea. Two big benefits - you get the obvious ones that an appointment in year X isn't still affecting the country 30yrs later, but I think just as important, both parties have been in a race to nominate younger and younger judges on exactly the theory that you can influence the court longer, so the byproduct is that you get judges too young to have decent track records and probably generally lower competence. If the justice has to go in 15 yrs, 60 is as good as 45 for the appointment age and I think that would be an improvement.

  29. What I like about the calls for replacing Biden because he's old is they skip right over Harris. Then, they really can't decide on who either Whitmer or Newsom. If Whitmer or Newsom became the nominee, the right would just come up with a new attack. Those candidates look better because they haven't run for president and gotten the full wrath of the right wing apparatus.

  30. Take advantage of your local library. Reading is obviously the #1 reason but they offer so much more. Our pretty small and not well off city has an amazing library. They have a 3D printer, vinyl cutter, T-Shirt press, small recording studio, laser engraver, film scanner for old home movies and negatives. A decent amount of computers, printers, fax machine, etc. They also offer a few meeting rooms you can book. And they have subscriptions to some expensive services you might not want to pay for. I use one for demographics to research different markets when we open a new location. They have classes on genealogy. They also allow you to stream movies and music. I'm sure they are not great but the price is right. Tons of great stuff that you don't really think about being at the library.

  35. Monty is pure sabotage. This guy is just collecting fat paychecks, he had no interest in coaching this year until pathetic Gores begged him countless times to coach his poverty franchise so, lo and behold, he still has no interest in coaching even though he's getting paid many fat stacks to do so. Yeah the roster has obvious flaws but this coach has gotten the least out of them and even less than that. I could go down a long list of errors from his asinine rotations, to his even more asinine system, to starting Killian for however many games to dicking around Ausar and Sasser with their minutes, to benching Ivey in favor of Killian, to deploying Cade as if he's Luka Doncic to.... well, you get the idea. He's a bum and needs to go. Gores could give him his sweet buyout payment then let the door hit his ass on the way out.
