  1. It was really tedious, I had to turn it off. Usually I can stomach it but it was too much. I mentioned how C-SPAN had moved it to the mobile app to cover Biden exiting. While it's hilarious to frame it as a diss on Kenny Brit's speech, they came on with some info why. Apparently during that whole long Biden exit, the house was still in session, so b/c of their agreement w/ the House, they have to show the house while it's in session, there's no escaping it.

  5. The death of Trump's political career is November, 2024. To whit: 1) Republicans are going to get wiped out. And not just Trump. Strong economy. IVF. Roe v Wade. Playing around with the border instead of fixing the border. Boot-licking Vladimir Putin and Russia. Trump's in-your-face fascism. And not least: Dark Brandon has been unleashed. I predict major disheartened red base and motivated blue, and right-leaning Indies and suburban moms wiping out a wide swathe of Republicans... even with the gerrymandering. 2) What does that make Trump? A LOSER. Not just once, but 3 times over and losing in the courts too. 3) That's called a sinking ship. After the November elections, the rats will abandon the sinking ship. That's the end of Trump.

  8. Biden could channel his inner Churchill and MAGA's wouldn't be impressed. Trump could sound like PeeWee Herman and they would call it a great speech

  9. What is their base really though? They are the party of Trump, which will be a serious problem for them in the not-so-distant future. They've completely alienated anyone remotely conservative who categorically won't vote for Trump, and a significant portion of those who will vote for Trump won't vote for anyone not named Trump; maybe not even anyone not named Donald Trump. Katie Britt, or Nicky Haley, or [insert any non-Trump Republican] secures an electoral map reminiscent of 2008. It's all about Donald.

  10. I just put it on again while I'm working. It's a German and French made movie but I love how they show the country. Sometimes it takes an outsider.

  12. You know what... I actually love that idea. The "danger" on kick offs was always that you have the kicking team running down the field at full speed while the receiving team was either stopped or even running back towards the other team. On punts the two teams are lined up on the line of scrimmage so you don't have down field collision (expect for the ball carrier). This is why punts are considered safer than kickoffs. Now, "punt-offs" would still be subject to potentially a high number of fair catches, so you would still have a decent number of kicks that ended in a "boring" way, but it brings back the chance of a onside "punt-off" which I like, so that's a good thing.

  15. I love this because the Trump running dog media are always hammering Biden for problems with the economy that inevitably struggled to recover from COVID at the time he picked it up, so if it's fair game to hammer Biden for that, then it's at least equally fair game to hammer Trump for the economy tanking in 2020 in the first place.

  17. I don't agree with the Republican Border Bill that they were trying to pass on policy. However, I thought Biden really had a great moment sticking it to the Republicans saying "that's amazing you all don't even agree with your own bill." This was one of Biden's best and most effective jabs last night.

  21. GQP did it again; reduced expectations for Biden's performance so low people were expecting a incoherent blob of goo; Biden is solid, but really appears to knock it out of the park because of the triumph of low expectations. Thank you GQP! And the visuals of him talking to everyone late into the night were so good

  25. It's not the thing people focus on about Biden, particularly in today's politics, but it's really one of his best and most genuine qualities... he loves to work a line and has to be pulled away from it. Whether it's with pols or people on the campaign trail. I remember one of his town halls in late 2020, he ended up staying at the amphitheater for almost an hour after it ended just so he could talk to the crowd. Just a tremendous (and underrated) retail politician.... he may be one of the last of his kind even.

  31. Just a few points on the "Are you better off" question with a few facts from JVL (Bullwerk) https://plus.thebulwark.com/p/the-definitive-answer-to-the-question?utm_source=substack&publication_id=87281&post_id=142360180&utm_medium=email&utm_content=share&utm_campaign=email-share&triggerShare=true&isFreemail=false&r=45wcm&triedRedirect=true Crime??? In Trump’s 2020, America became a criminal hellscape the likes of which we have never seen. Under Joe Biden, the murder rate has fallen every year—and the drop from 2022 to 2023 is one of the largest declines in the murder rate in American history. And it’s not just murder that’s down: Violent crime is down across the board. One more thing: In 2020, 8,600 American troops were in harm’s way in Afghanistan. Today that number is zero.³

  32. What about others that make plays that a SS with a high FP% doesn't even get to? That is left out of FP% You can't make an error if you don't touch the ball. A SS or 2B with no range means they are fielding balls hit generally right at them. Those are hard to screw up. So they have a high FP%. A SS or 2B with better range still makes those same plays the first guy makes, but also gets to balls outside of the other guy's range. Of those extra chances, he will commit some errors. So his FP% is lower. But he's also converting more outs. The errors made are irrelevant in comparison because in both situations the player is on base. Would you trade less errors for less outs?

  33. The only person who doesn't see this is Monty. Let's keep rolling out that starting lineup with Ausar/Stew/Duren who are a -10. Not only does taking Stew out of the starting lineup help Cade and Ivey who are struggling with a packed paint every night, it also means less Wiseman minutes which is good for everyone.

  34. General thought: As a kid I stayed home from school one day and my dad and I watched Paris, Texas. A Sam Shepard written film directed by a German that as very American. Harry Dean Stanton as a drifter who comes back and finds his son and ex wife. This movie captivated me then and in the few times I've seen it since, including bits of it a few years ago when I saw it on HBO Max. I saw a reference to it as I guess Beyonce's new country video paid tribute to it. So I watched again. Still holds up. It's pace is slow but the music makes up for it. There's a great sequence between Stanton and Natassja Kinski. The camera hold still on her face for like 5 minutes as the gravity of what she's hearing becomes evident and tears start to come out. They are talking through a one way mirror and Stanton turns around so the camera can stay still on both of them while talking, then that's repeated later on where Kinnski does the same. This negates the use of camera cuts and the viewer is made to feel like they are in the room with them. I love movies that ask the viewer to engage and make an effort and be patient. This does that. Stanton doesn't speak for like 20 minutes at least. Just a great great movie and if you have Max I encoruage you to give it a try. Harry Dean Stanton said it's his favorite movie of his.

  35. I don't really understand the loyalty. The man has given you two separate incidences now where he could have been fired for-cause. At least after the Wisconsin incident you could claim it was isolated while recognizing the fact that he had a decent season to that point (which was capped by a surprise Sweet 16 appearance after the incident), fresh off an Elite 8 run and a B1G Championship. They gave him the same level of deference many large programs give their star athletes and coaches. I wanted him fired, but I at least understood why they were hesitant to. This go-around though? This is just stupid. Worst Michigan Basketball team in school history, man has a history of being physically aggressive with others, has demonstrated a complete inability to recruit top-end talent or coach up mediocre talent, you had publicly announced a zero-tolerance policy, and then he does this and you just.... what? Ignore it? Ono is in something of a tough spot, because his job is not to babysit Warde. He can't keep coming in and micromanaging the Athletic Department just because Warde is bad at his job; it undermines the office and makes the next person's job harder. First it was that he couldn't play nice with Jim, and now it's that he can't see what an absolute mess of it Juwan has made and continues to make... But what are Ono's options? Let the basketball program languish in mediocrity (or worse) until Warde sees the light and fires the coach (and probably hires a poor replacement) out of principle? That probably doesn't affect his job that much. More importantly for Ono though (and General Counsel), does he allow Juwan to continue assaulting school employees (or others)? The school is already certainly on notice to his propensity to act aggressively towards others. Warde's contract is up in 2026, and I have a hard time seeing them firing him before that's up (though I'd also be very surprised at this point if it's renewed). I do also think Ono's office needs to step in again, as little as he likely wants to. If Warde isn't going to fire Juwan, ask him why. What does he see that we don't? What makes him think 2024-2025 will be different than this **** show of a season? What makes him think Juwan isn't going to punch someone else, who then sues the university for outrageous sums of money?

  36. I tipped him. Not mad at him but the venue should advertise that their small place with horrible acoustics will be overtaken by John Denver and Johnny Cash songs for a few hours. It’s not on a stage. They just moved some tables around, so there’s less places to sit. 2/3 of the people can’t even see him because of the layout. It’s a brewery with a long narrow space. Nobody was really paying attention. Sorry but when it’s so loud you can’t hear the person across from you then it’s not good service. I mean a guy could be in there using a clear blower to clean the floors and “he’s working” is not a valid excuse. I have another place with vinyl night where people bring their records. That’s fun because you can still carry on a conversation
