  1. It's terrible, but every time I see a black man named Carlton, I get this image in my head:

  2. Fire Harris. Hire Avila. He was right all along. 😏

  4. Don't misunderstand me. I was being glib. These are the issues that lead my thinking on CJGJ, of which MC mentioned a couple: 1) Dude has an ego. He's going to want the chance to be a straight up starter. 2) That said... even though he came back last year after surgery, he may not be able to find a situation in which he is the automatic starter. And may be forced to take MC's 1-year prove it deal. Not a bad bet for the Lions to take if he's willing. 3) That said... I'm going to guess that the Lions are pretty high on Kerby and Iffy as the safeties, and Branch as the nickel. CJGJ can probably squeeze in there somewhere... probably quite a LOT with Kerby losing the most time there, on a guess. 4) So... can CJGJ REALLY still ball after that surgery? I don't remember him being exceptional at the end of last year.. and actually getting burned a couple times. Does another 8 months chilling out and "soft recovering" from that surgery get him back to 100%? Does that make offering him a 1-year contract worth it? 5) The 3 young Lions are... greeeeeeeeeen. Not a huge amount of starting experience. It's why I ask the question that, even though Simmons is on the downside, he isn't the better locker room guy for those 3. I don't think he has more to offer on the field than CJGJ... but I think he has more to offer the other 3 guys in the locker room, coaching them up, and being part of a rotation with them. Just my 2 cents. Again, not taking the glib angle here, but... The biggest question I would have is: Does CJGJ REALLY want to be here for another year, given all of the circumstances?

  5. No way it take until 2026 to reach the bigs for that stuff unless your assuming it take a year or so at that level to be a #2. Personally I think arms only last so long so why wait. He has 3 pitches now. Maybe wait until June to keep a year of control. Not to be irrational, which I am about to be 😃 , Sign JD and bring up Jobe. The Central is really weak. And with Skubal and Jobe in short series....is it 2006 or 2024 ?

  9. Good for him. We paid him $6.5 and he ended up doing very little. Getting 3 years $33M after that season is great work from his agent. Danielle Hunter should ask for his number in 2 years.

  10. This one stings, not going to lie. I knew deep down in my Honolulu blue heart we wouldn't land an A-tier, marquee free agent. But man, I really wanted us to be in on Hunter and I had some small but fading sense of hope that we would land a dynamic pass rusher like Hunter. Lining up a guy with 16 sacks across Aiden sure would have been nice. Just continue to trust the Brad Holmes plan!

  11. if cominskey's agent thought he would get more on the market, he would have declined. he wasnt all that good last year. not as good as he was the year before.

  13. Barring injury it feels almost certain that Jobe will be up at some point later this year even if its just for a start or 2 and next year he should be entrenched in the rotation.

  14. No, but in the NFL it's understood, you generally get an up front bonus and some guarantee, but you know the non guaranteed portion is open ended.

  18. It is sold under numerous names but they all affect the way the body digests food. I was on it for diabetes and had constant nausea. I quit after 2 months of throwing up a couple times a week. For a non-diabetic to get this stuff i believe its about $1000 a month, it may have come down some though.

  19. This is it. I am hearing this is becoming a huge deal. I think it was designed for type 2 diabetes but is now more of a glamour drug. One nurse who was 20-30 lbs overweight the last time I saw her at Christmas has lost probably 30 lbs.... https://www.fda.gov/news-events/press-announcements/fda-approves-new-drug-treatment-chronic-weight-management-first-2014

  23. A couple weeks ago 60 Minutes had a segment about that nutty Moms For Liberty group, the one with the sex scandals (natch). Scott Pelley was interviewing the leaders and they could not talk their way out of a paper bag. I mean, man, talk about C+ students just riding the crest of a wave. It’s just a matter of right place-right time for them. No one will even remember the organization, let alone know who these people are, a year or two from now. They couldn’t carry Terry Rakolta’s jock.

  24. A little history for those planning to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 2026. On this date in 1773 a group of seditious legislators gathered at Raleigh Tavern in Williamsburg, Va to pass a measure calling for a Committee of Correspondence among the 13 member colonies... https://www.colonialwilliamsburg.org/learn/deep-dives/committees-of-correspondence/ Just one of those things we never really learned in school.

  26. Right. They talked a lot of smack on TV but what did or would they say under oath? When one person speaks under oath and is rebutted by a guy on Hannity or whatever, I'm going to lean toward believing the person under oath.

  32. lets all take a moment to laugh at the carolina panthers. as they sit and watch the bears take a "generational tbd" qb with their #1 pick they gave up to take a tiny qb who was terrible in year one, lets not forget they turned down mutiple #1 picks to trade for brian burns and instead just dealt him for a second and a fifth. they make the pistons look well run.

  38. There's not a whole lot of guys in the league that can consistently cover WR1s, those guys are going to get their yards one way or another. I'm more concerned with not letting the other guys get theirs too.

  39. I think society has been slow to recognize how completely the landscape has changed. Our traditional understanding of needing a 1st amendment to protect the ability of people to speak needs updating to a recognition that in the current world, the greater problem is not being denied access to add to the infosphere, is the need to protect it from a level of pollution so deep that the public cannot becoming accurate informed by it. I'm not sure how you get there, but it's an issue the US needs to start thinking about more seriously. I think dumping the 'actual malice' requirements for public figures (which is actually everyone in a viral internet age) to enforce slander/libel would be one place to start. The rest of world seems to function without that level of (over)protection for public falsehoods.

  40. At the Lions-Bucs playoff game, Carlton Davis’ mother and family sat two rows in front of me. When he was called for a penalty late in the game, my (dumbass) friend yelled out “WHAT HAPPENED DAVIS” and his mother turned around and said “Some BULL**** that’s what!”

  43. I don't understand dragging the hiring process out....in any field, and I'm a huge culture/fit guy. I don't think it makes the hiring organization look good....you really need all this time to make a decision? What's business decision making look like for you? I say this as someone that works for the federal government with a painful hiring process. I did a phone screening with a guy two weeks ago, panel virtual interview with him last week, and flew him here from the UK this week to put a bow on things. We had drinks tonight to talk ancillary stuff (towns to look for houses, commutes, the non-work side of the process) and he'll come into the office tomorrow to talk nuts and bolts, potential project assignments, and next steps....it'll be a done deal by Tuesday and we will just have to figure out his start date with the move back to the States factored in.
