Big parks, typical weather conditions, more consistently advanced pitching than most teenagers have ever faced, physical maturity, skill/approach development.....it's all of those things for a teenager in A-ball. Depends who is saying he's maxed out....some armchair scout looks at some pictures or some video and see his listed characteristics, then I'd say they are full of ****. If it's a real scout with some experience....a guy that's met the family and seen the physical maturity of parents, siblings, close relatives, etc., and been able to see his physical development over time, then if they're saying he's maxed out, I'm more inclined to listen. From what I know....I wouldn't say maxed out. I would say physical development is not going to be the biggest contributor to his development. He will still make some physical gains with overall maturity, but his ultimate ceiling will be dictated by bat to ball dev, pitch rec, lifting the ball, etc....you're not projecting stardom because he looks like a young Aaron Judge and you think he will be a physical monster and has skill projection. You're projecting stardom for him because he's got good now skills, has skill projection, and the present physicality doesn't need to progress for his skills to develop.5 points

There is a reason that the line in Bob Segar’s “Famous Final Scene” where he says autumn is closing in that hits hard for those who grew up in the North. It’s the resignation that a particular kind of joy is about to end. Meanwhile, living and running youth sports in the heat of Virginia, i welcome Fall.3 points

It's a joke based off of Taylor Decker "failing" to report lol. I fell for it last night myself for about 10 seconds when I went looking on Twitter and then the joke hit me.2 points

Manning is going to push one of these pitchers off the team... at least by the trade deadline. IMO. Whether that's Maeda or Flaherty - I would guess Flaherty - I don't know... that's not going to get a huge bat back, in fact, probably nothing more than a single-A guy... But I would expect only small moves like this at least until the offseason.1 point

Cabrera is gone. There has to be consequences for poor performance or it's a slap in the face to the guys who do work hard to make adjustments. Carpenter for example had a rough September but has been good in April. Greene is playing his best ever baseball. These guys have options. Maybe some bus rides in the minors will screw their heads on straight.1 point

I would add that there was a lot of teeth gnashing by folks last season complaining about Colt Keith not getting called up.... now that he's here, he's not only bad, but he's worse at the dish than Torkelson is (ie. the guy everyone wants to apparently send to Toledo and/or DFA). It's not a defense of Tork, he has to be much better. His piss poor defense the last couple of weeks was sort of a breaking point for me. Having said that, like Mike McMahon during the Joey Harrington era, the next hot thing down in Toledo isn't always the answer.1 point

Nobody is giving up on Tork. You probably have to lower his ceiling significantly now. If he can be a jag first baseman who hits 25-30 homers that would be good.1 point

Park at Wayne State and the garage off Cass and then take the Qline down Woodward. It's only $10 at Wayne State and the garage is open until midnight. I did it yesterday and today. I parked at Structure 6 off Cass in the link below. I'm a Wayne State alum but you don't need to be to park there. https://parking.wayne.edu/info/lot-structure1 point

And of course, truth is, he doesn’t need the NYT. 99% of NYT readers already support him and are more irritated at the Times in this affair than Biden. Biden has a pretty good sense of where he needs to put in effort he has the energy for and what’s just distraction.1 point

I read about people's preferences for seasons in the Washington Post and this is a pretty good map: What it basically shows is which season people tend to look forward to more, spring or fall. A lot has to do with the local climate, obvs: if you live in the cold north, you are more likely to look forward to spring; in very warm or hot climes, more likely to look forward to fall. This is apparently based on Google searches. Now, this isn't a map, but I found this really interesting: you are more likely to prefer the season your birthday falls within!1 point

I've read that some teams have been concerned that the quality of depth in the later rounds is worse this year than in previous years, because of NIL incentivizing players staying in school longer when they would be drafted in that range or undrafted. I think this is also the first year where guys that we pickup in the 6th and 7th rounds won't be guaranteed a spot on the team. They'll need to beat out the in-house talent for that gig. If Brad agrees, I would think a deal like they pulled last year for Brodric Martin, packaging later picks to jump into the 3rd or 4th round, would make a lot of sense. Why take three fringe guys if you could take one sure-fire backup who could turn into more? They also currently have nine picks next year to play with (two 4ths and two 7ths), and that's before even considering possible comp picks for Jonah Jackson or CJGJ.1 point

I'm not sure it could have gone any better for the Lions yesterday. Having every defensive player drop like that? I sincerely believe that Arnold was the top defensive player on their board too. That's not to say he's as high as Witherspoon was for them last year, but I think he's an instant upgrade over Amik Robertson, and probably an upgrade over Cam Sutton too.1 point

I'll be at this one. Going to be nuts down there with the draft stuff going on. I can't wait to see it. I wonder if any of hte out of town folks will decide to use the game to fill a few hours? Tigers should have had a special promotion, like $10 for OF or upper deck seats.1 point

Part of the problem with political reporting, and it's certainly not exclusive to the NYT at this point although they are the biggest offender, is that it all feels outsourced to polling. The "shoeleather" stuff isn't actually being on the ground trying to find out what people are talking about, it's the paper hiring a polling outfit to do a poll, and then having the political folks do a large writeup on said poll and drawing sweeping conclusions. And then sending the reporters out into the field to interview folks on the basis of whatever the polling results are. Obviously old school political reporting can be informed by hard data, and certainly reporters shouldn't be drawing conclusions off of random interactions in the field, but often times it just seems like the data does all the driving and reporters just work backwards. And that really seems mailed in. 100%, it's all about the brand. I think it's a fair discussion to have as to whether Biden is out giving independent interviews enough, but the sense of entitlement that the Times demonstrates is off-putting regardless. Especially in a time when other publications in the industry who don't have the resources that the Times has are facing existential challenges1 point

What's funny to me is how flawed Sulzberger's premise is to begin with. If Trump and the current GOP should teach a journalist anything it's that what a politician has to say for himself should probably be the very least important aspect in forming the basis of your reporting. The readership and the democratic process requires hard fact, and you aren't going to get that from a poll even on the more honest side of the 50/50 split between minor liars and epic liars. Dig, research, report - what are they DOING, how are they doing it. I'm so completely burned out with this society's fixation with empty meaningless verbiage. That all the interviews and debates and ****-can them and try reporting on what's happening. Sulzberger wants that interview because it's prestigious, not because it's going to tell his readers anything important.1 point

They could use a CB, a speed rusher or interior rusher (or both)... But also an X Receiver and a primary back up to Ragnow. However that works out or however Holmes plays that... I'm good.1 point
