I don't get it. If there is a challenge, they use the ABS system to verify the call. Why not just use ABS and get every pitch right?2 points

I think it's clear in the last few cycles it's much more about turnout than changing people's minds. In 2020 Trump got 12M more votes than in 2016 and lost because the Dems turned out 16M more. That the swing of 28M more voters staying home or not dwarfs how many change their minds. Which is why for my money - all the campaign advice to Biden about trying to swing the average Fox voter is advice to waste energy. Everything you do has to be aimed at energizing your own voters. That's the one thing Trumps has learned perfectly, which is why he doesn't care a whit about how outrageous he seems to the Dems, he doesn't care what they think - his only objective to rile up his own voters with enough fear and anger to make sure they don't stay home.2 points

But four blowouts should not override the quarter season of decent ball that came before it unless it is indicative of future failures. If the blowouts are caused by the beginning of a breakdown of an overworked pitching staff (particularly the bullpen) for example, then they should act on it. If they make changes just to appease fans,it could make things worse long term.2 points

When you let your organization rot so long, it's going to take a few cracks at rebuilding to get it turned around. Harris better have stomach for what needs to be done. You can't half measure your way out of this.2 points

I would actually be interested to know whether Ryan Vilade or Colt Keith can play 1st. Tork can go reset his bat in Toledo, along with Meadows... As long as 1 of Keith or Vilade can play 1st and the other can stay at 2B. Vilade is only 25... I'm interested in seeing what he could do with an extended run in MLB.1 point

I’ve gone a third of a season or so and I’ve decided that I can’t listen to Jason Benetti with Craig Monroe anymore. It’s just too much chuckleheadedness for me. Benetti feeds Monroe’s muse and allows him to give in to his worst impulses. I don’t mind Monroe with Dan Dickerson because Dan is all business and keeps Monroe reined in. I get that most people love Benetti and Monroe and they might be the permanent team next year, but I’m pretty much out on them.1 point

I don't know if Tork is the best guy to articulate the strategy. In any event, maybe they're taking too many pitches that are good to hit because they are not good hitters. It seems to be working at Lakeland. And I agree that eventually they will get the right players in at the big league level to execute the strategy properly. But don't worry, even after they do, it'll be totally OK if you still hate the staff! 🤣1 point

It's fun to joke about Tellem. But he was the Michael Jordan of agents. It would be hard to hire a former player from Langdon's era that wasn't represented by Tellem at some point.1 point

Does Gores have a daughter he can transfer ownership of the team to?1 point

Langdon should approach Monty and try to reach a buyout number. Tell him we can frame it as him wanting to be with his family to save face. Then he walks away with $20m-$30m for doing nothing. Fire him if he refuses. Then he should get Kenny Atkinson on a private jet and go to work on him. He did an excellent job with a very young Nets team before they tried the KD/Kyrie/Harden experiment. Tell him to do what he can with the current roster. Over the next 18 months promise to rebuild the roster with players that match his coaching style. Set the goal of making the playoffs in years two (2026). It will cost Gores an ungodly amount of money for the next 5 years. But the team has gone up in value over one and a half billion dollars since he purchased it. He can afford it.1 point

I don't understand why sports have a challenge system. How about they just have an extra official watching the game and if a call looks suspicious they just buzz the ump/ref and have them pause the game while the ref in the box take a look at it. It should only take 20 seconds to decide if a call should be reversed. Is the league more concerned with just getting the calls right or to have a stupid system like the NFL does? There are obvious wrong calls but if you already used a challenge and lost, you are just screwed.1 point

I don't think the umpires have any shame. This is no different than Jim Joyce basically saying, I am bigger than the game and I will do what I want because I have the power and there isn't anything you can do about it.1 point

Interesting... and you couple that with what I observe on social media of older generations constantly talking down generations that came after them. I hate that **** with a passion. Even something as simple as "Kids today should be taught cursive!" It's a constant drum beat to make them feel bad or not up to par. I got snippy with someone who was a boomer complaining about how "kids today don't play outside like before". I told him if that were true then blame the people who raised today's parents... meaning... you boomers. But it's not true. It's just different. The kids in my neighborhood may not be outside in a free for all like we were "in my day" but they are always busy with activities. The families are never home during the week. They like to push this narrative that kids just sit around playing video games. So given that.... I understand the jadedness of certain generations.1 point

This is just a silly comparison. Like really silly. Monty came in and played terrible players over rookies. He had terrible rotations and in game management. So what he was good last year, he was awful this year. We have no Mahomes or Kelce and anything we have close wasn't hurt.1 point

because we saw how monty handled the roster and his lineup moves during the game. they were very perplexing, to say the least. yes, the roster was garbage, but monty's choices of who to play during games was downright malpractice. they had to cut killian to get monty to stop playing him instead of ivey, for example.1 point

Beyond the nepotism aspect, does anybody believe that he REALLY has full autonomy? I'm sure when Weaver and Monty are retained, we'll get fed this BS that these were Langdon's guys when in reality nobody in this fanbase is dumb enough to believe that these guys were the best candidates after some fictitious thorough search. I hope I'm wrong but Langdon feels like a puppet, a "window dressing" hire to make it seem like there's change when nothing really changes in reality. Maybe I'm just jaded by this whole Gores regime but it's hard to have any faith in any decisions they make especially when they're hiring somebody with no real experience and who was a Tellem client.1 point

If/when they quit, it will not be because of Lange, it will either be because they have lost trust that the way the team is run is helping them win and/or that the situation in the clubhouse has become so joyless that no-one wants to come to work.1 point

The 7 years of crappy baseball is indeed a factor. It’s something that Harris needs to be well aware of. He inherited a mess, this stretch isn’t all on him. But he inherited a disappointed fan base that might not have the patience that he hopes for.1 point

This fart noise of a May continues on. For those of you that say "they're only a few games out of a Wild Card". Are you actually watching them play? This team is closer to a Top 10 draft pick than a playoff game. Again.1 point

Harris' moves have mostly worked out. His issues are 1) patience vs. complacency and 2) risk appetite. At some point he is going to have to take a risk; otherwise he's just treading water forever waiting for Lakeland talent to arrive.1 point

He probably also couldn't cope with the fact that from Detroit MI, it's closer to drive to Montreal QC than to Ironwood MI.1 point
