  1. You know that Kirk Gibson has Parkinson's, right? The medication he takes for that has horrendous side effects. Most people on "Parky" meds wouldn't even want to get out of bed because it's so incredibly draining (which is why he only does some games and not all games anymore). Kirk is a pilot - he can no longer fly a plane because of that. I doubt he can even drive a car anymore. He's not "boring" now, he's just drained (without the meds he'd be in constant pain and would have even more limitations in abilities). Faced with what he's going through - EVERY SINGLE WAKING MOMENT in his life right now, I'm gonna cut him some slack. This might be the only thing he has to really look forward to doing and he can only do it a little bit. Have a heart.

  2. Foley is probably their best reliever. Why not use him against the middle of the order rather than the bottom of the order where pinch hitting is more probable?

  3. Not in a rush to get Parker back, but agree he’ll deserve another shot. Would like to see Dingler come up, but not sure he’d be an upgrade over Rogers. Not on board with demoting Vierling for Vilade, who strikes me as a 4A guy and organizational depth. If we’re demoting/cutting anyone, it should be McKinstry. I suspect he’s gone as soon as one of Kreidler or Leonard proves healthy and ready.

  4. But we can agree it’s better to debate after a win than a loss, yes?

  5. Use the righty against the right-handed core of the lineup. Let Holton face the bottom of the order and take the LHB pinch hitters out of Schneider's holster. Right call. I'm glad it worked.

  7. Back in the mid to late 90's, Gibson and Josh Lewin were among the best teams in baseball. Gibson was humbled by then, and had great insights into the game. Lewin was as good and professional as they come. Gibson went into coaching/managing, Lewin moved onto Texas I believe, and we had garbage for the next 15 years. I have no problem with Gibson now, as he is battling his disease in the only way he probably knows how, to hit it head on and keep working. Yes, parkenins and the medicines have left him with a higher pitched voice and much slower cadence. But, he still has the insight.

  10. First Italian ice of the season today. When my dad was alive, we’d hit this place in March. Even when he couldn’t remember my name, he still knew where we were when we pulled up to this place. Had lemon ice today, in your memory, Dad.

  14. the whole psychology and habit around closing is just that, psychology and habit. Jim Leyland showed us in '06 that using your best reliever when the leverage was highest should be the way to go, but the habits formed in baseball culture, which includes the fans, the press, management and even the players, all pressure teams to have closers. It make very little actual sense statistically or tactically. Even the argument that the 9th is somehow harder to pitch is only true because players have come to believe it.

  15. Yup. Additionally, if Hinch goes with an inferior RP vs the middle of the order, Foleyor whomever else might not get a save opportunity.

  16. I liked Hinch’s reasoning for using Foley in the 8th. I have no problem with it whatsoever. I think it was the smart play.

  17. The flip side is he has Foley in better shape for tomorrow. Strategies always look better after the fact when they work. 🙄

  22. College is such a scam these days. Society says you will be a failure unless you attened a four year school. Not only do you walk away with huge student loan chances are you will not use your degree for your career. How many classes are you forced to take that have zero impact on your degree of study? Trade schools have a much lower cost. My kids HS offers an apprenticeship that you start as a Jr. and graduate with a Ass. degree with ZERO debt. His buddy who he plays baseball with is a senior and already has a job lined up in June working with Plumbers Steam Fitters Union starting pay? 27.50 an hour day 1 out of HS. We met with the director of this program and they said there are over 100 open positions just in this area for that exact job. My wife, a nurse got her bachelor's degree and her hospital reimbursed schooling costs, she had to stay there for three years to qualify after graduating but paid in full. She is now licensed to work in any ICU in the world. Go to college get a degree but make sure there is a market for your talents.

  29. yeah, I'm older than that and was able to pretty much pay my own way through at UM from my second year on and graduated with zero debt. Kid's not being able to support themselves at upper level schools like UM is a terrible indictment of US social policy over the last 40 yrs. It's become one big profit center for the loan industry instead. Pretty much the same for the SO. She finished owing a total of $3K, and we though that was pretty bad.

  30. What did Tellem do to deserve being fired? I consume a lot of pistons into and I don't have a clue what Tellem does. But every fan seems to think he has made a thousand mistakes and should be fired. I would fire their college scouts way before their pro scouts. They haven't really made any free agent moves or big trades to judge their pro scouts. Sounds like Langdon will have full control of the basketball side of things. He will have to evaluate these guys and determine if they stay or not.

  36. My Dad loved ice cream and coffee. When he was in the hospital with a heart attack at the age of 96 we asked a nurse if he could get a little of each, which he wasn’t supposed to have. The nurse (so many wonderful ones out there) went to the staff fridge/breakroom and got him a small helping of each. Had to take the oxygen mask off for it, but he enjoyed that little treat. He died a few weeks later.

  37. My mom went to Eastern Michigan in the early 1970s and paid for her college, books, and gas by working a part time retail job throughout the year. She took out a small loan and when she finished college (didn't officially graduate) had no student loan debt. After she graduated she bought her first house at the age of 22 and went to work for Michigan Bell and had a near 30 year career with MI Bell/AT&T. She was forced into retirement around the age of 60 when she was laid off during the recession. She went back to work for another 6 years or so after being laid off and then officially retired around age 66. I went to Wayne State in the late 2000s and worked a part time retail job during the school year and full time during the spring and summer months. I even got promoted to a Shift Supervisor position and went up to $9.25/hr. as a Supervisor. I graduated with $40,000 in debt from Wayne State and no prospects for a job better than what I had due to the economic being in the midst of the Great Recession. So then I went back to school and got a Masters Degree while I road out the recession. I added another $15,000 or so in debt load from going for my Masters. I bought my first house at 28. I only was able to do so because housing prices were still deflated and I had a friend of mine move in with me and help out with the bills. I have a decent job right now and can say I am comfortable month to month, and even have a little savings. But I am by no means doing great. I'll never retire. I simply won't have enough in my 401k (which I contribute to monthly) and Social Security to retire. MAGA is going to gut Social Security anyways if and when they take back power in November.
