  1. you know what the complete comedy in all this cultural warfare is? It's upper class liberals that live the most morally 'conservative' lifestyle of any segment of American society. They have the most marriages, the fewest children out of wedlock, the highest proportion of stable two parent households. The right in American has their head so far up their asses they don't understand the difference between being free to do something and forcing other people to do something. Liberals are completely happy with conventional lifestyles, we don't denigrate them at all, all we want to do is make room for people to be free to do it differently if that is their choice. The right just can't figure out this simple equation. Wanting to allow people to be free is just that, and nothing more than that. But of course, "that" is a lot. The Christian Right's problem (as well as the RCC ) is that they want the state to mandate people to do what they can't persuade people to do because their doctrine is just too unappealing. They call themselves "Evangelist" after the Greek for "Good Tidings" but their "news" just isn't so good and when people see it and don't like it, they want to be entitled to police power to enforce it.

  2. 21st century GI Bill. Serve 2 yrs, go to college of your choice for free. Kids would be lining up. And the bonus is It would put the Federal gov's interest in the position of demanding lower tuition rates from US colleges instead of just subsidizing more bank loans. Win-Win

  3. i don't think anyone could honestly argue that Biden hasn't gotten physically frailer, but TBH, I don't care about that, it's not a prerequisite to do the important parts of the job well. Shrub was healthy as a horse, he was a disastrous president. To me the only place it figures in the calculation is wrt whether he lives out his second term, but even on the grounds that Harris is a largely unwritten story, i'd still vote for her even up over Trump or anyone Trump is likely to picks as a VP so even there, it doesn't weight negatively on the scale. When I look at the operation of the Biden administration, I don't see any lack of vision, consistency. I don't see idiosyncratic actiions, senseless windmill tilts, or other evidence of an erratic hand at the tiller - so that's what I have to go by.

  4. I still watch the games, obviously, but the negativity relative to their record or the expectations they had going into the year has made it a lot harder to have fun engaging with others when discussing this team. It's relatively tame here, it's even worse on Twitter or other venues. I'm not saying they are good or that they are where any of us want them to be (they are very mid, they aren't where we want them to be), but the relentless negativity just gets old.

  5. Yeah, I'll be honest I have had to block some people on here because the constant negativity of it does nothing but annoy me and make me not want to hop on to talk Tigers. You know it is bad when you know when consistently if they are doing well posts on GDT's are less than when they are doing poorly.

  9. I wouldn't put it past Biden to ignore the political side of this and strictly deal with this as a parent who loves his son, as he's not been afraid to express, but politically it doesn't hurt him to see a family deal with someone who's got addiction. Nearly every family is touched by it and if the right wants to make fun of that then they do it a their own peril, especially in the red part of the country because I'd bet the addiction numbers are higher in rural than urban.

  19. That post is complete bs, Tater. Did you even watch the video? Nobody was attacked. This is a group of people trying to force their way into an area they aren’t supposed to go. The military did a great job of diffusing the situation where a hostile group didn’t want to obey the order not to move forward.

  20. So there were rumors before the Hurley offer that LA would be very interested in Monty if the Pistons let him go. Gores should approach Monty and tell him he is free to negotiate with LA if he wants. Tell him he will pay him the full amount of his contract minus what LA is paying him. Everybody wins. Detroit saves a few bucks and drops a bad coach. Williams still get his full pay and gets to coach a better team in a better city.

  31. Unfortunately all we have basically is a binary choice, not counting the Kennedy guy who seems to have his own cognitive issues. Which party has the saner bench to better serve "We the people" and not the business or outside overlords. I may have been persuaded to vote for McCain over Obama if it hadn't been for his choice of VP. The federal government is not just one man or woman. I trust Biden's choice of folks over whatever or whomever Trump is being sold

  32. I think there is some decline for both. Just that Biden has enough actual governing ability that he is still quite capable of being president. That might not hold for the next four and a half years, but it’s still better, IMO, than Trump who never had much going on upstairs aside from his ubergrifter spoiled rich boy “smarts”. His loss of any capacity, after showing how poor of a president he was years ago… can’t lose what you never had.

  34. 11 teams, out of the other 29, have won more games, 12 have lost fewer. No, I wouldn't call them "good" but I don't think they warrant the beating they get here after a loss. People act like they are the 2003 Tigers sometimes. They are on the the middle of the pack.

  35. This is just me thinking aloud based on some anecdotal evidence as well as what I remember in terms of polls/results from 2016, 2020. If I remember correctly, Hillary was expected to easily beat Trump but lost. By 2020, Biden had an edge in the polls but everyone freaked out due to the 'they will vote for Trump, but they are afraid to tell anyone they will' factor that was believed to be the big reason for the inaccuracy of the 2016 elections. Trump did better than polls suggested, but not by the margin in 2016. My mom and one of her sisters and one of her brothers are the biggest Trump fans (or so I thought) around. And by Trump fans, they admit he's crooked, but it's a 'they are all crooked, at least he's honest about it' mentality. I just found out my aunt won't be voting for Trump. If you looked at her facebook feed you would have never guessed that. She was over a few weeks ago after my daughters confirmation and I heard her tell my brother 'you'd be surprised who else isn't voting for him' and I didn't get a chance to chime in. According to my brother she never mentioned who she was talking about, but even he wasn't thinking it was our mom or uncle. That said, he mentioned our mom just a few days ago made some comments that surprised him in how she talked about Trump making him think that is who my aunt was talking about. The thing is, she's still posting facebook garbage that makes her look like a huge MAGA supporter. So, while years ago you had that voter that wouldn't say they'd vote for him but would.... I wonder if we're moving into a situation when previous Trump supporters won't vote for him, but don't necessarily want others to know they won't.
