Remember when the House had the impeachment inquiry and they had a "whistleblower"? I mean... I'm sorry but if refuting false statements and faking fun of ridiculous opinions is "bullying" then I question the validity and strength of those opinions to begin with. The fact is the right wing as it existed 10 years ago no longer exists. It's been replaced by fringe elements with extremist views.4 points

I highly doubt ownership will be the deciding factor here but don't let that get in the way of a good ol' dead horse beating of Illitch being a bad owner.3 points

Not a subscriber so I don't have any details but I saw on Facebook that Baseball Prospectus' updated their top 50 post draft and 4 Tigers made the list. Jobe at number 3, McGonigle at 20, Clark at 35 and Rainer at 50.3 points

The thing is that there's a bunch of them that I vehemently disagree with who, on the whole, are institutionalists and are relatively trustworthy (ie. when they give their word on something legislatively, they follow through on it).... Cornyn, Thune, Moore Capito, others. There's upwards of 30 of these types in the chamber as we speak. But these generally are folks who came to Washington to actually legislate and get things done. They aren't the type that hunt down the cameras any chance they get. I don't have much use for the latter (really in either party if I'm being honest).... and Hawley is among that group.2 points

Kiley's thoughts on our Draft Best value: Bryce Rainer, SS, No. 11 overall Where best player drafted ranks on team list: 4th (Rainer) Sleeper to watch: Ethan Schiefelbein, LHP (No. 72). I saw Schieflbein pitch a few times over the summer, but he had another gear when I saw him this spring at the NHSI tournament. He was toying with hitters, throwing a fastball 88 mph then the next one at 95 mph; I had to check my video to make sure these weren't different pitches. He threw four average or better pitches and showed plus control from a projectable 6-foot-2 frame. One big thought: The Tigers' new regime clearly still isn't scared of taking high school players with top picks, but it usually leans into safer sub-demographics within prep players -- for instance, last year's top picks of Max Clark and Kevin McGonigle: up-the-middle prep hitters with long track records of hitting, the ideal group of high school players. Rainer draws questions from some analytical types on his hit tool due to his mediocre summer and being old for the draft class, but scouts aren't worried. Schiefelbein gave me Zack Greinke vibes in terms of advanced pitchability in high school while Owen Hall and Zach Swanson fit into the riskier power righty demographic, but both have good breaking pitches.2 points

I don't think this is necessarily the case. To me prep vs college is more a matter of confidence in your evaluation skills, the depth of your scouting, and swinging for the fences than the time differential. It also dovetails with a management believing they can bring players further faster with their development people than players can progress in 2/3 yrs in the NCAA. Just the fact that in the minors you can push a guy up to keep him playing against his ceiling instead of having him basically waste a year outclassing his NCAA average competition has to be an advantage. Hitters especially don't learn much playing against bunches of pitchers then can hit 400 against.2 points

Trump is such a rambler. But he kept it mild and on his message. Did not trip over his words. Dems need to get their *hit together and beat him.2 points

And I’m getting pretty damn annoyed. I’ve been wanting to watch my local news for an hour now. I need to know what the weather‘s gonna be like tomorrow and the road conditions, and if there were any more shark sightings down the Jersey shore. I also wanna know if the Mr. Softee ice cream truck has been handling the excessive heat or is this cream melting all over the cones. I need my local news. Enough of this convention bull****2 points

There's a golf term called a Fallwell. Pro golfers are usually paired in threes the first two rounds of the tournament. If two players have a great round, but the third is struggling and missing out on the fun, that is a Fallwell. On the other hand, if two players are struggling and one is having fun on his own, that is a Toobin.2 points

I've watched a lot of Mayer. I think he's exceptionally overrated. He's a solid but not plus defender. He has a decent hit tool. He doesn't drive the baseball with any type authority. If the hit tool falters at all when he gets to the big leagues, he's barely an everyday player. I fail to see a carrying tool anywhere in the profile. I wouldn't push for him as a headliner in a deal.2 points

Not if he makes the announcement *before* the election. People would know exactly what they'd be voting for. It would be Biden's way of stepping aside while keeping complete control of his pledged delegates. It puts a younger person in the office with his program but kneecaps all the people trying to torpedo Biden without having a candidate or plan, which would make the convention into a disaster. Granted - a very, very long shot, but if I'm strategizing how to step aside without total chaos ensuing, that is the only way to do it. Any idea that the Convention would be some kind of unity love-fest or that someone would emerge in some kind of big consensus if it were thrown open is fantasy of the highest order.1 point

Imagine if we would've given up on Keith after 80 games. You need a sufficient sample size to evaluate performance. When your team sucks you can give players a little longer to see how they adjust/grow. Maton is simply not a example that supports your point. Almost 100 games is objectively not a lot.1 point

Didn't even John Danforth say he regretted ever supporting Hawley? He has a deserved rep for being a good deal more slimy than the average DC slimball.1 point

There was only one side that actively schemed to overturn a presidential election. I don't know if all the Dems stand for our values, but the GOP as a whole has clearly demonstrated that they don't.1 point

I mean if the price is right, pull the trigger. You don't turn down a king's ransom for Skubal out of some short sighted sense of pride. You also don't have any need to settle for a meh package because you need to trade him. He's got two more years of control.1 point
-
You guys are impossible. If it is not Dem new source its fake news. If its a Rep Senator he is the devil and can't be trusted. We are just never going to find common ground.1 point

The scary part of trading Skubal is the return. Any player(s) we get will be given multiple chances to try to make Scott Harris look good. Even if they're total busts. Example? Nick Maton. Every Tiger fan saw he wasn't an MLB caliber player. But game after game, he was in the line-up, no matter how bad he was going. Not only given every chance but given extra chances. Why? Because Scott Harris traded for him with the plan to make him our 3rd baseman, taking the place of Candelario. Think about the possibility of having a few Matons in the line-up. If Harris trades for them, they'll be in the line-up for most of 2025. Whether they earn playing time or not. Even if they do poorly. A Skubal trade could set us back a few years.1 point

He did the exact opposite - he had a prepared speech and largely didn't give it. I think he'll maybe get some mileage out of the first 15 to 20 mins... but it just wasn't a good speech. Lucky for him that a lot of the people that Tater is asking about will be watching viral clips and snippets. Otherwise, I agree... As bleak as things have been, tonight shows that he can still be beat. And whatever step lies next needs to be dealt with in short order1 point

He actually said with the straight face “and we’re gonna fix the roads and the bridges too“. Well now wait a minute… I’m pretty sure that’s Biden‘s infrastructure bill that was passed and the work that’s been being done this past year. It's also for all those who went to college and took out loans and dropped out... many of whom learned the lesson that conservatives like to talk about too late. That's the part of student loan forgiveness that should make sense regardless of one's political beliefs.1 point
