I keep seeing things like this and I wanted to add some color. Harris most likely acts like a CEO of a company. While he has the final say on things he is not down in the everyday discussion of we should draft x vs y. Those discussions are had by Mark Connor who came over from San Diego. San Diego was known for their proclivity of selecting prep talent in the draft. Sure Harris could have demanded Connor focus on the most ML ready talent but he hired him for his knowledge and expertise so if Connor tells him hey here is where we have the prep players and we believe it's above the non-prep players should he select the non-prep because they will get here faster? The draft is about talent not timeline.3 points

That part I don't know about. I don't know how the Dems will unite or how to get them all motivated and united. Trump MUST be defeated. Yes. I'm thinking though: whomever comes out of the DNC on top... EVERYONE will get behind them. Including all the Dem PAC advertisements, donors, base, independents (who do NOT want to see another Trump Corrupted Administration), Never-Trumpers, etc... I think it will all come together. But I just can't promise that (as if I was the guy to make this promise... NOT!!!) Best of luck everyone, in November. May the best (DEMOCRATIC PARTY) Person win.2 points

Here's what I don't get... Vance claims to be from Appalachia. I grew up 40 minutes from where he did... maybe 50 minutes. Either way, the area between Dayton and Cincinnati is not Appalachia. That's midwestern suburbia.2 points

40,000 fans gonna show Chris how bad Detroit wants a winner. After he counts all the $$ he makes, he'll loosen the purse strings and allow Harris to raise the payroll. Hey, a guy can dream, right?1 point

Jobe has to show that he can last a couple months in the minors without getting hurt again. He's also on an innings limit. I don't think you'll see him in the majors this year.1 point

I wouldn’t be shocked to see Jobe up, if necessary. He’s the best we have in the minors (and most of the big squad).1 point

Yes, of course we're supposed to trust Harris, because what's our alternative? Seems like the only real alternative is to quit following the Tigers. You're talking as though Harris has already failed us on multiple occasions as Avila did. In fact, you are strongly implying that Harris is Avila. If you're not willing to give Harris even one deadline chance, then how can you ever be satisfied with anything? I mean, I get the self-flagellating attraction of fatalism, but doesn't there have to be a limit to it at some point?1 point

Dude... I'm voting STRAIGHT DEM ticket... NO MATTER WHAT. From top to bottom. The Republican Party no longer exists. It's the MAGA Party of Fascism and Violence and Lies and Replace the Constitution with a Dictatorship. No thank you. They no longer exist to me. I wouldn't vote a Republican for local dog catcher or Morristown, NJ Manure Manager. Whoever is at the top of the Dem ticket, I'm voting for. I love Joe Biden. If it's him, that's who I'm voting for. And I've said this a 1,000 times: if it's Joe Biden's Corpse with a broomstick up his back, that's who I'm voting for. If it's Kamala, that's who I'm voting for. If the donors stage a coup and get someone else atop the ticket, that's who I'm voting for. If it's a Massive Monstrous Pile of Manure that the Morristown Manure Manager left in my parking space, if that's what is atop of the Dem ticket... that's who (what) I'm voting for. But this is out of my hands.. I don't have a dog in this dog-n-pony show. I just don't. So.. I don't care. At all. Not out of malice... the only malice I hold is for Donald MF'ing Lying Scumbag POS Fascist ****wad Trump. Whoever is on the Dem ticket, that's who I'm voting for. I don't care who it is. I'm not going to argue anything here. I see what some people's concerns are about Biden... I get it. But I'm not arguing for anything. I'm just going to vote straight ticket Dem from top-to-bottom come November. Whomsoever that may be. That is all.1 point

We all knew Joe is old and has a stutter. But he gets stuff done and works for all Americans. He also has a great administration. Not a corrupt one like Trump had. Most of Trump's ended up in prison. I'm really not sure this country could survive another Trump term.1 point

I don't think it's millions of voters' votes. I think it's more like 3,896 delegates' votes. And they are not even votes yet—they are pledges to vote at the convention in August. So, technically speaking, no votes are being taken away if Biden is replaced before the convention. But it is still a **** move to some.1 point
-
The thing I come back to is that Biden holds all the cards because he has the pledged delegates and there is pretty much nothing anyone can do stop him from taking the nomination if he decides to. Thus, Biden can basically name his price for agreeing to move. So the real question is what can the malcontents offer Biden as their end of the deal? To me the media portrays the power dynamic exactly backwards. It's Biden who is in control of what happens, not the party insiders or the donors or the media. I believe if he were to agree to go he will exact the price of his choosing and something tells me his opponents won't like it.1 point
-
Very interesting note today from yesterday's Bulwark pod with SE Cupp talking to Tim Miller. She says "I know from a well-placed source" that Biden is going to step aside. Now, that's not exactly dispositive. But, the effect of that on the chattering class is now the thing that matters. This needs to be resolved by the end of July at the latest. And by resolved it needs to be him passing the baton to Kamela. She's the elected official who got all those votes to be VP back in 2020.1 point

I was going to University of Toronto in downtown Toronto during the September/October '87 pennant race. I went to all four games the penultimate weekend, but because I was a poor student sat in the left field stands. The first couple sections near the left field foul pole weren't horrible, but since the stands angled away from the left field fence you got further and further away as you moved out sections. And for that series they opened sections that had rarely or never been used for baseball before. Put it this way - when Gibby's game tying home run in the 9th inning on Sunday went out, my seat had a straight on view of it going over the right field fence. As for the Skydome, I lived 3 blocks away from it when it opened in 1989. It was a relic the month it opened. It had a few neato features like the center field restaurant (which I ate at on a date) and the center field hotel (which I did not take the date back to) but tons of concrete and steepness and ugly turf. The last of the Veterans-Three Rivers-Waterfront style stadiums. Even back then, there had been a few voices for a different look, like that of a Buffalo minor league park that had opened a few years earlier. Camden Yards wasn't yet opened but I think it was already known what direction the Camden Yards builders were planning.1 point

I used the non-profane word for the male genitalia and it was rejected. I think sexual orientation is a very different from race or religion. It will be overcome but not yet. Smart, rational people without bias or prejudice are a minority in this county.1 point

I prefer the game is called correctly. The AAA ball/strike challenge system has limited pitches to challenge. I think it is 3 per game, but I'm not sure if there are caveat's to that (ie, retained challenge). I am pretty sure it is penalty free. If the call is challenged and upheld, play moves along. And from what I have seen, its a quick process. Pat the top of your head to challenge, the pitch is reviewed, the determination is broadcast on the scoreboard, and we move along. Honestly, the time it takes for that to happen is quite short compared to the challenges already in place in MLB. Maybe its as long as a pre pitch clock batter getting out of the box to scratch himself, adjust his batting gloves, knock dirt out of his cleats, and get back into the box.1 point

Here's the upstanding Josh Hawley calling for Christian Nationalism. "We are a nation forged from Augustine's vision," he said. "A nation defined by the dignity of the common man as given to us in the Christian religion, a nation held together by the homely affections articulated in the Christian faith: love for family, love for neighbor, home and country. "I'm sure some will say now that I am calling America a Christian nation. And so I am. And some will say that I am advocating Christian nationalism. And so I do... my question is, is there any other kind worth having?" Hawley went on to say that "the truth is, Christian nationalism is not a threat to American democracy." He claimed that American democracy was founded by Christian nationalism. It is "the best form of democracy yet devised, it is the most just the most free, the most humane, and the most praiseworthy," he added. "The Christian political tradition is our political tradition. It is the American political tradition." https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/josh-hawley-doubles-down-on-christian-nationalism-remarks/ar-BB1pJ5iE1 point

Why is believing Jesus visited the Indians any crazier than thinking he died and rose from the dead… or did any of the other miracles mentioned in most mainline Christian circles? If you believe God can do anything then why wouldn’t he have done that? Most religions contain bat**** crazy things to people on the outside. Thats what makes the faith of the believers so important.1 point

Just looking at stats from players in the past -aside from Babe Ruth who struck out a lot - many guys would walk 60 times and strike out 60 times. The strikeouts were low by today’s standards.1 point

I mean if the price is right, pull the trigger. You don't turn down a king's ransom for Skubal out of some short sighted sense of pride. You also don't have any need to settle for a meh package because you need to trade him. He's got two more years of control.1 point
-
Trade Skubal to compete in 2025 doesn't make sense. You trade him if your window doesn't open until '27. I doubt they trade him. Is a team going to put 200+ innings on his arm this year? Seems like an injury concern to me.1 point

Just a quick antidote from about 40 plus years ago. We lived in the shadow of Pat Robertson's CBN complex in Va Beach. I'm assuming now it's all part of the Regency University complex. We had a friend who went to work as a bookkeeper for CBN. One day the copying machine in one of the main offices stopped functioning. After a bit of hand wringing The staff gathered around the machine held hands and prayed. Karen walked up to the machine and gave it a quick kick. It started working. Miracles do happen1 point
