  1. Honestly. Be better. Trump will not rally NATO against Putin and continue the work of building an anti PRC alliance network in East Asia. He states this repeatedly. It’s why veterans hate him. He does not keep the faith. He would seek quid quo pro from the dictators he saliva bathes. That’s all he wants. He wants to destroy our collective security institutions and empower the global oligarchs. Only rubes can’t see that.

  3. For all the kvetching about the offense the Tigers are 15th in MLB in runs/game. They are 14th in runs allowed/game. The epitome of a .500 team. Considering they are one of MLB's youngest teams the future isn't as dismal as some around here think.

  4. There are realities, you can't launch an all out attack on Russia. Once that is off the table, reasonable people can and do disagree on how to manage the situation. You can complain about having to spend the money but other people sometimes do things you have no choice but to respond to and those responses are often not free. If your business was being burgled you would have to buy security to establish your 'stalemate' with the local thieves. Of course you can always just give up. Everyone lives in a world where their choices may not be all they would prefer.

  9. And that’s the difference isn’t it, that the Ukrainians are fighting for themselves for sometime we both understand in the same way while it was never more than a minority of Afghans that was true for? It’s tragic but it’s also true that there is only so much one society can do for another and those lines are not always easy to see in real time when decisions are made. We were also told we’d be hailed as liberators in Iraq, ~10 yrs ago we were laughing at how foolish that seemed, but maybe today not so much. History has a way of turning things on their heads more than once before it’s done. The US has been no saint around the world in my lifetime, it’s been a very mixed bag, but I have fewer reservations about supporting Ukraine than I’ve had about most of our FP adventures.

  10. He has been in charge every day since he was elected. I have no doubt on this. Yes, he’s sick with Covid. I don’t need your doctor to confirm this. Answers from a cat lovin-childless, yet not miserable, American woman. )who definitely alway has had a stake in America)

  11. I would have to guess somebody made sure in advance most of the possible choices would take themselves out of contention in the 1st hour. With Newsom, Whitmer et al coming out with almost instant endorsements, it was over before it began.

  13. I want to see the ad that shows For 203 years every transition from a living president to another was peaceful......until Trump Since it's establishment as our nation's capital in 1793, Washington DC never had to be fenced off.........until Trump Every since being asked, every candidate for President has shown their tax returns.........until Trump Every departing President showed up at the next President's inauguration........until Trump He once asked if ingesting cleanser could prevent COVID. He's a convicted felon, 34 times over. I mean...........just go after this piece of crap. Turn the whole age thing around on him too.

  14. not to be too picky/thread police-ey but I am going to suggest that when we do the FIFY thing on another poster's work (which I think is fine and usually fun), that just out of courtesy, we italicize or bold or otherwise highlight exactly what we changed so that the OP never has to clarify what he didn't say. And I know I've probably done it but I'll try to be better too.

  18. Without relitigating everything that was wrong with Avila, it wasn't an issue of his not pushing us into a full rebuild—after all, we lost 98, then 98, then 114 games in consecutive years on this watch—it's that he didn't know what the hell to do once we got there. Putting a loser on the field is the easiest thing to do in big league baseball, and Avila was among the best at that. But yes, we are now in the post-Avila rebuild, but I promise you we're going to get out of this one a lot a lot faster (although TBF, any amount of time is faster than never). Harris is rebuilding correctly right now, and we were so deep in the **** that it was never not going to take time. All you have to do is live through it.

  19. I don't see Stanley Johnson at all with Ron Holland, it's a lazy comparison tbh. He looks like a bigger, less speedy Ivey offensively with the way he attacks. Stanley didn't have near the athleticism that Holland has. Anyway, it was nice to see him have a good game yesterday. You could see flashes of a potentially good player, he just needs to learn to play more under control which is something that Ivey, to go back to that comp, hasn't figured out yet.

  22. In looking at how pitchers have been used in college I think I may prefer having pitchers come straight from high school. You can put together a stronger/better plan on how to implement growth and manage the workload vs college teams which don't always do that.

  23. I'm surprised that the party rallied around Kamala so quickly. Before Biden dropped out, most of the yells were simply "NOT BIDEN", rather than any actual nuanced evaluation of the pros and cons of Biden vs. [Insert replacement here]. I think that's a credit to Biden and how he went about dropping out. One statement bowing out immediately followed by one endorsing Kamala, before anyone could get a breath out in reaction to his dropping out. Give someone a couple hundred million dollars of a head start and the endorsement of the sitting President, and it will be hard if not impossible for any serious competitor to gain traction 100 days out. Rather than chaos begetting chaos (which is what I feared would happen), the chaos lead to a collective "fair enough" shrug at the endorsement of Kamala. Which brought with it unity in the party.

  25. This is a really big deal in the sense that, most seemed to agree prior to him departing the ticket, Biden's troubles were heavily influenced by a lack of base consolidation. That is clearly not the case anymore - it seems like she's getting support from every corner of the party now. The other thing I'll be curious to see is whether Biden's approvals jump at all after making this announcement... if they do, I would imagine Kamala will see her approvals track with his. That's important because winning becomes a lot easier if you're in the low to mid 40s versus the high 30s (where Biden has been the past few months)

  27. Well, yeah, you're right, there is that. We were never going to be legitimate playoff contender unless everything broke the right way, meaning, no injuries, and no horrible underperformances. But, as you said, we had injuries to Mize and now Olson, but also, injuries to Carpenter and Meadows (lately), earlier injuries to Urshela and Baez and Faedo and Ibanez, horrible underperformances by Tork and Lange and Maeda and Meadows (earlier), the slightly less horrible underperformance by Manning, and the ongoing awfulness that has been Baez. Top that with the fact that no one of our bullpen has shutdown closer ability, and Scott Harris would have to be flat out incompetent to believe that a trade for a veteran would put us in a good position to make the playoffs.

Wilson and Nixon weren't around to see their successor sworn in for other reasons. https://www.whitehousehistory.org/notably-absent-presidential-no-shows-on-inauguration-day#:~:text=Five outgoing presidents – John Adams, not participate for other reasons.

  32. Once again the media is failing to point out something but not asking a question of Trump or his campaign. Why is she illegitimate, Donald? The Democrats have not had their Primary yet and have not selected their candidate yet. They will select her, but why is she illegitimate? Donny boy is scared of her, that's all. As far as Shapiro "only being a Governor for 2 years". Well, so what. Trump had never been anything but a con man and game show host when he ran. I don't think that experience thing even matters anymore.
