  1. I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't more moves across the system today. Some draft picks assigned to FCL or Lakeland. Maybe Franyerber up to Lakeland, Lee to Toledo, Hamm to Erie, Jobe to Toledo... just spitballing, but the draft pick signings and all start break seems like a good time to shake things up.

  4. I really have no idea at this point. It could be Biden's health/energy level has declined a lot very recently but a president is so insulated we can't tell that very well one way or the other. There are just a lot of aspects here. To me the biggest indicator that he is actually OK is the very fact that he stepped back. It's a paradoxical situation, by far the most likely thing if he were really losing it would be that he would have dug in and no-one could have done anything about it really. The delegates were his - period. Now, once you posit a man with fully functioning faculties and extremely deep political experience, there is really no limit to how many levels the strategy might have been played to. When I first posted this scenario - more or less tongue in cheek, the one thing I hadn't given much thought to was the lame-duck issue but the more I thought about it, the bigger I saw it to be and the more willing I became to entertain the idea that there could have be 4 yr plan - maybe just partially formed in the background all along. In this era - with a divided Congress and the Senate filibuster and bad faith actors like McConnell, it would be daylight madness for any President to announce he wasn't a candidate for re-election until the last possible moment. He would basically cut himself off at the knees. Plus Biden lived through both the LBJ withdrawal and Carter/Kennedy fiasco that helped elect Nixon and Reagan. Or most likely you have little bits of all different motivations and factors playing into the final total.

I volunteer for a homeless outreach Vet group where I live. We help anyone that looks for help Vet or not. Most don't want help so we leave them a sandwich and water.

  24. So, guess it depends on a persons definition of a 'broader scale'. I have discussed this with other medical professionals (not doctors, I don't know too many of them) that when they know about the auto-immune issues of her, say they would advise against doubling up on vaccines at one time now. So I assume it's happened enough for your average health care person to at least consider it as a possibility. When they finally ruled everything else out and said it was serum syndrome related to both of the shots together, they gave us a number of how many others were in the same ballpark as her and it was in the teens, I can't remember if that was even state or possibly even a national number. So certainly not widespread by any means. As a whole the benefit of society outweighs the few. That said, I do wonder if we lived back in Warren and she had her old doctor, vs living in northern Macomb (red area), if things would have been different. Was her doctor here just tired of hearing MAGA folks bitch about the Covid vaccine and wasn't thinking of her history? At the time would her history make any difference (I have never found any consensus on this)? Would her old doctor in a 'bluer' area had more patience with her concern and maybe offered up to take them separately? Even if so, it's possible she still could have reacted this way and doubling up on the vaccines only improved the chances. Who knows. What I do know is I don't want people taking my wife's experiences as an anecdote as to why vaccines are bad.

  25. Is this real? https://michigan.rivals.com/news/warde-manuel-honored-with-nff-john-l-toner-award The National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame announced Tuesday that University of Michigan Athletic Director Warde Manuel will be the recipient of the 2024 NFF John L. Toner Award, given to the nation's best athletic director. Manuel will officially be honored during the 66th NFF Annual Awards Dinner presented by Las Vegas at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino on Dec. 10. In a statement, the NFF cited Michigan's National Championships, individual and team conference honors, as well as the success of the football program.

  26. I am not young, so I can tell you that even before the big de-institutionalization movement and the guys started coming back from 'Nam, we had drunks and addicts begging on the streets in Detroit. I think one difference is that there were places we called SROs (single room occupancy) - mostly old run down apt houses, that people could afford to stay in on their SSI (which used to be more generally available). But economic changes have squeezed out all kinds of cheap housing, de-institutionalization has added to the numbers, welfare rules are stricter, more drugs are available on the street, and returning warrior issues are worse than in the past. So we took a problem we didn't know how to solve when it was small and made it worse from multiple directions.

  27. yeah I'm not on that argument either, I think we actually agree more than we disagree I obvs see your perspective re: Illinois, but I do think the lack of the individual vote value there is b/c of the sum value of the individual votes there which I know is circular but is also true I think the most plausible way to rid of the electoral college was the movement I was seeing in the wake of 2016 where folks were arguing that if all of the states just went to proportional selection of electors it would render the electoral college useless but obvs the unified reich isn't going to go with that

  30. I don't think anyone questions they need better position players. Whether the threshold is an .800 OPS or maybe something more along the lines of OPS+ based, this offense needs help. I think Flaherty has pitched himself to a point where a trade return is going to be better than the qualifying offer compensation. Maybe that's debatable given his recent back issue, I don't know. I think he gets traded before the deadline. As fun as the Tigers have looked lately, its tough to see this stretch continuing given the pitching rotation health. They've given themselves a puncher's chance, but let's see how they get through Cleveland and Minnesota. The other issue is that they're chasing teams down, so they have to rely on their downfalls as well. I think Skubal could still command a similarly high return during the offseason. I think he'll be kept unless the offer is too much to decline. I do disagree with what you said about replacing him directly. The Tigers can ask for a top tier pitching prospect as part of a trade package. I suppose we can debate whether or not that is a replacement for Skubal based on current value, and that's fine. But they're also going to need to find some arms this offseason to begin with. Almost certainly in the bullpen, but probably more rotation depth as well.

  31. I’m not interested in trades right now because I just saw that we now have a +3 run differential. Everything is fine. I’m going to party like it’s 1999, without a care for the morrow.

  32. I just refuse to forget them. Biden had a chance to right the ship and draw down our troops, equipment and allies. He was in charge and failed at that task. To me it not even political it’s bad management.

  33. Many of those also give Trump a pass for the disrespectful things he’s said about the military so pardon me if I don’t give them any special standing for their opinions. They are being political about it just like the rest of us. If the same thing happened under Trump they would have just glossed over it.

  37. Negative I am not MAGA. We are the strongest military in the world and were muscled out by a Militia. We could have found a way to hold onto our fortified bases and evacuated the hundreds of interpreters and other personal who laid their life along with their families lives on the line. The gravity of that betrayal is lost in the U.S. They were all slaughtered, women and children. That was a choice the administration made on their own.

  40. I'll be honest. I think the trade if it had to be made for a more East Asia/Europe centered defense with our Navy and less heavy forces watching the center makes more sense. The idea is to protect what is important. Afghanistan was the lesson in how amazing we are at projecting force anywhere. The big boy war is what we need to prevent now.

  42. For all the kvetching about the offense the Tigers are 15th in MLB in runs/game. They are 14th in runs allowed/game. The epitome of a .500 team. Considering they are one of MLB's youngest teams the future isn't as dismal as some around here think.

  43. There's no rule that says you can't buy players and continue to build from within at the same time. You don't have to wait till you feel you're a true contender before doing so. The Rangers are a prime example of this, folks thought they were stupid to do "win now moves" like sign Semien and Seager when they were supposedly so far away from contention yet a year later they won the whole thing.

  44. In looking at how pitchers have been used in college I think I may prefer having pitchers come straight from high school. You can put together a stronger/better plan on how to implement growth and manage the workload vs college teams which don't always do that.
