The Internet Is Making Hilarious Comparisons Between Tim Walz And J.D. Vance, And I Can't Stop Laughing BuzzFeed Tue, August 13, 2024 at 3:35 PM EDT·4 min read 4.6k As someone who's deeply invested in the upcoming election, I spend quite a bit of my time on Reddit reading the comments on political posts. Well, in the r/inthenews subreddit, a recent post about our vice-presidential running mates had me cracking up. In the comments, Reddit user u/TDiddy2021 wrote, "My wife just sent me a meme proclaiming, 'Tim Walz is the guy who asks if you need help with a creepy dude at the bar. J.D. Vance is the creepy dude at the bar.'" Andrew Harnik / Anna Moneymaker / Getty Images And that kicked off a ton of responses in a similar meme format! So here are all the best ones: 1."Tim Walz is the guy who will mow your lawn when you break your leg. J.D. Vance is the guy who reports your overgrown lawn to the HOA." —u/starreelynn 2."Tim Walz is the neighbor who helps your little sister study for her geography test. J.D. Vance is the neighbor who says your little sister will be hot in a few years." —u/Mr-and-Mrs 3."Tim Walz is the guy who puts menstrual products in school restrooms. J.D. Vance is the guy who points and laughs at girls with stains." —u/Deedle-Dee-Dee 4."Tim Walz is the guy that brings donuts to work. J.D. Vance is the guy that eats the last one and leaves the empty box on the counter." —u/MadEyeMood989 5."Tim Walz is the guy that pulls over on the highway and changes your flat tire. J.D. Vance is the guy that drives into the rain puddle, splashing you while you’re changing your tire on the side of the road." —u/nibbles200 6."Tim Walz is the guy who tells a funny joke at a party. J.D. Vance is the guy who opens your medicine cabinet." —u/scrunchie_one 7."Tim Walz is the guy who leaves a good tip and says thanks. J.D. Vance is the guy who screams at the waitress." —u/Mmm_lemon_cakes 8."Tim Walz is the guy who thinks 10-year-olds should get school lunches. J.D. Vance is the guy who thinks 10-year-olds have to carry a baby to term." —u/isle_say 9."Tim Walz is the guy who buys the office lunch on Friday. J.D. Vance is the guy who microwaves fish in the break room." —u/Mmm_lemon_cakes 10."Tim Walz is the guy who smiles to himself when he hears the neighborhood children laughing and playing outside on a summer day. J.D. Vance is the guy who calls the police about a loud noise complaint." —u/BlueDragonfly18 11."Tim Walz is the guy who will play Pokémon games with his kid. J.D. Vance will yell at his kid to shut up about Pokémon games." —u/Pragmatism101 12."Tim Walz is the guy who brings over some tools to help you fix a problem. J.D. Vance is the neighbor who borrows your tools and never returns them." —u/Roctapus42 13."Tim Walz is the guy that helps you fix your car. J.D. Vance is the guy who tells you that you can’t park there when it breaks down." —u/Ser_Daynes_Dawn 14."Tim Walz is the type of guy you would ask to walk you home after a late class. J.D. Vance is a father." —u/Kirsten137 16."Tim Walz is the guy who will lend you $20 and never think about it again. J.D. Vance is the guy that will lend you $20 and then charge hourly interest compounded, increased for inflation, and then sue you for $1,000 in small claims court." —u/perljurnwern 17."Tim Walz is the guy who will make sure everyone has a voice at the town meeting. J.D. Vance is the guy who will call others stupid for asking questions." —u/starreelynn 18."Tim Walz moves over so you can merge safely. J.D. The thing with the Medal of Freedom is that its Trump's true feelings about the worth of people. There are servile people who say "Sir" to him and there are rich people who are of use to him and who need to be curried favor of in his interests.2 points

#4 dropped in right at the top of the zone. Was hi, dropped in. To naked eye it did look hi. Was a great pitch. Jung struck out his prior at-bat on a pitch that was also painted. Jung took walks first 2 at-bats. Showed a decent eye and didn't chase.2 points

Ibanez has a role on a lefty heavy team, which the team projects to be. And he won't be expensive as an Arb1. I would keep him around.2 points

He doesn't understand anything about anything except 3 things 1. How to take credit for good things others have done 2. How to throw blame at others for things you did that went bad 3. How to get himself more attention And this is why he is coming so unglued. None of it's working. He really doesn't have any good news to share about anything he's done (because he hasn't and has NEVER done anything). He's run out of people to blame for his mistakes. Most of them have ended up going to jail or making deals to stay out of jail and the big one - Harris is getting more attention than he is without having to resort to anything extreme. This is driving him insane. How come he's not the top story all the time? The press still goes FAR too easy on him (because they want those clicks and views). They say his IQ is 145? I say bull****. He's an idiot. But maybe I'm wrong, maybe the smarts are there but the intellectual curiosity is not an that's actually worse. When you have brains but refuse to use them. When you lack curiosity, when you lack depth, when you lack reason. Donald Trump has never read a book. Not cover to cover. He's a flim-flam man, a carnival barker, a hate trader. He's good at that and he knows how to hook certain people and that he does extremely well. The sad part is we have so many people willing to fall for it and if you had someone that could control themselves, it would work on folks in the middle - the "undecideds". I can't understand how when THIS is one of the 2 or 3 people in this race. It is scary to think of how a Project 2025 candidate could win.1 point

Montero's made 4 starts in August and I'd say 3 of them have been good to really good. As a whole he's had a couple really rough starts but even in the ones that he gave up 5 runs in he was still able to go 6+ which isn't good by any stretch of the imagination but atleast it's one of those type of starts where you kinda give your team a chance and don't cripple your bullpen either. Basically I'm just saying in a long winded way that he has been a pleasant surprise and looks like he could be a potential back end starter going forward.1 point

He really understands nothing about economics, which may be why he's been bankrupt multiple times. If tariffs actually work, they will stimulate domestic production, which means tariff revenue will fall and you will eventually need a new revenue source anyway. In the meantime, it also will mean that government revenue will gyrate all over the place as consumption patterns change and as all kinds of factors overseas that drive the cost of imports (which are all largely out of our control) change import buying patterns and the resulting revenue stream. For better or worse, one the biggest virtues of income taxes is their consistency. Even in a major downturn, unemployment seldom goes up by more than a few percent, and it's usually lower tax rate individual that lose the most jobs, so the Gov is able to carry on in reasonable shape through the ups and downs of an economic cycle. A government that collected any major part of its revenues from tariffs would be a budgeting disaster. And of course, ALL taxes in the economy are paid by consumers - no matter what their type. *Any* tax on a product or corporation is ultimately passed on in the product price, any tax on the consumer is obviously also paid by the consumer. This is a rule with no exceptions. The most you can ever do with tax policy is manipulate which consumers pay what percentage of governments total income.1 point

I like the Yankees old school plain lettered road jerseys. There’s a quiet dignity about them. This was also often the norm in the early 60s when I first began following baseball so I have a nostalgic affinity for this style. It’s the same style our ‘68 team wore but I like our current roadies which harken to a still earlier time. I wouldn’t be against those ‘60s roadies being worn on occasion though.1 point

When Golda was PM, Israel still considered itself a secular country. I wouldn't be surprised if the religious right in Israel today would refuse to join a coalition gov with a female PM. People complain about 1st past the post election systems, but Israel is what you get when you don't have it - the power ends up concentrating in the most marginal outliers in a ruling coalition, and one day 50 yrs later you wake up and find you've ceded so much ground to the crazies that your country and government is becoming the mirror image of your enemy's extremism.1 point

A wrongful death lawsuit against Walt Disney Parks and Resorts is serving as a reminder to consumers of the importance of reading the fine print when signing up for a streaming service or smartphone app. The lawsuit was filed by the family of a New York woman who died after eating at a restaurant in Disney Springs, an outdoor dining, shopping and entertainment complex in Florida owned by Disney. Disney is arguing that the lawsuit should be dropped because the plaintiff, the woman’s husband, once signed up for a trial subscription of the Disney+ streaming service. That service, they argue, includes a subscriber agreement in which the customer agrees to settle any lawsuits against Disney out of court through arbitration. Such agreements, which customers quickly consent to by clicking “I agree” when downloading an app or a streaming service, are so stacked against the consumer that it’s often difficult to offer good legal advice, said John Davisson, director of litigation at the Electronic Privacy Information Center. “The consumer is presented with this contract and really doesn’t have an opportunity to negotiate the terms,”Davisson said. “It’s yes or no.”1 point

Ezra Klein with a another good interview in the NYT with a couple of people who study gender issues. Some interesting stuff. They divide the gender gap men in the GOP into two groups. I'll call the first the 'bro' group. They don't have big issues with modernity, or abortion, or even women's rights per se, but they feel they are being disadvantaged in the workplace unfairly, and what they really don't like culturally is that the fun part of Bubba Culture, which is wearing your sexism/libido in public, is being taken away. The hate to lose their right to be crude, crass and sexist. They see being civil to women 100% of the time as being a denial of their masculinity. The more insidious group are the medievalists - the Peter Thiel/JD Vance type who are basically holdovers from Nazi eugenics and their concerns pretty much boil down to purity of the gene pool. They are desperately concerned about population decline, 'replacement' by the brown hordes etc. Their aims are only met by women who stay home and procreate and that's what drives them to embrace 'Handmaid's Tale' culture. The only verse of the Bible they remember is the one about 'subdue the earth' - and there is a lot old style RCC sex and patriarchy theology still current with this group. These two groups don't intersect on a lot of things, but LGBTQ folks make both groups nervous (for different reasons) and that has become a big point of alliance between them. And anti-immigration also sells well with both groups.1 point

Hey, if G-d will make sure, then Drumpf supporters shouldn't bother to vote, right? Seriously, this is what should convince people to get together and make sure he doesn't get back in-and then go back to fighting for other causes. Put on your own mask first so that you can help others with theirs.1 point

I can’t picture Detroit looking at a top closer yet. The Tiger’s offense would have to justify that kind of expense and they’re not there yet, imo.1 point

Ron Filipowski sucks. These maga Twitter crazies like Ben Shapiro are trolls. Shapiro put out that ridiculous post about spices for exactly this response. He wants to rile up the other side to add clicks and in turn dollars to his pocket. Every single day Filipowski empowers these guys by retweeting them with some sort of “can you believe what these guys are saying now” tag. Whether he realizes it or not, he’s becoming the best marketing tool that maga Twitter has ever had. They couldn’t ask for a better friend than Filipowski for taking their troll bait everyday and continuing to spread it for them. I’m going to guess he’s never spent much time in an online forum like this one or else he’d know how the troll game works.1 point

This is totally infuriating. During my short stint at teaching special needs kids - (kids from a lot of different school districts in northern New Jersey), we had some who were bussed to us from shelters,- and we KNEW these kids went through hell at night, often not able to sleep, nor, at times fed supper the night before or breakfast that morning. YOU LET THEM put their head down. You bring them something to eat. You give them a modicum of peace & quiet. **** this jerk for not even entertaining the thought that her life , even if only that day, might be horrific…. And that she was sleeping because she couldn’t keep her eyes open for even another minute. Put the cuffs on this monster. Damn him1 point

I wouldn’t be surprised if that judge and court gets some heat over this. I saw the story when it aired and was half paying attention. I thought she was a defendant. The handcuffs thing is problematic for me. That’s physical restraint. The judge doesn’t know this girls situation. Maybe she is on meds. She didn’t commit any crime.1 point

I think Edvinsson will start the season in Detroit, just not on Seider's pairing. I kind of like the idea of having them separate anyways, at least one of them will be on the ice 2/3 of the time (theoretically).1 point
