Trump himself promised he would show up with a metaphoric magic wand, and that he would bring prices down on day one. https://nypost.com/2024/08/15/us-news/trump-blasts-kamala-harris-high-grocery-prices-and-maduro-plan-while-standing-in-front-of-cheerios-meat/ “So when I win, I will immediately bring prices down, starting on day one. We will end Kamala’s war on American energy, and we will drill baby drill. We’re going to drill, baby drill that’s going to bring down prices of everything, because energy brought it up,” Trump went on. Also: https://www.newsmax.com/newsfront/donald-trump-rally-north-carolina/2024/09/21/id/1181213/ "Groceries and rent will no longer break your budgets, and you will have thousands of dollars of savings by the end of the year," said Trump. "We're going to get your energy costs down in one year. We're going to get your energy costs down by 50%. We'll cut it in half. We're going to cut it in half. It means young people will once again be able to afford a mortgage and a home."3 points

no team can survive this many injuries. the fact that they are 12-2 is a testament to holmes and campbell, but half of the nfl war is attrition, and the lions have lost that battle. its a damn shame to see the best lions team in my life go into the playoffs crippled, but it is what it is. 😞2 points

He doesn't have it own a single satoshi to profit from the whole thing. He's the guy who has his hand on the lever. That's worth much more than ownership.1 point

Today is the 52nd anniversary of the end of the final lunar mission. If you ever looked at the full moon and wondered where we went. All the sites are on the near side as it was way too risky to land on the far side due to communication blackouts. No way would they allow that, although the only geologist to walk on the moon, Jack Schmitt secretly lobbied for it. (There is no such thing as a dark side of the moon despite what Pink Floyd said) Apollo 11’s site was picked for easy access get there, get down, pick up some rocks and dust, and get the hell home before someone dies. Apollo 12’s goal was to prove a precision landing was possible. Pete Conrad landed within a few hundred feet of a crashed surveyor probe sent up a few years earlier. 15-17 sites were specifically picked for what the geologists and scientists wanted to retrieve to learn from the moons history.1 point

that's great. let see what he actually does. Trump's typical MO is talk up a real problem and then do something that makes it worse.1 point

I believe you're right, also a lot of the anti-vaxxers also were more likely to have an advanced degree and be upper class. I don't have any anti-vax acquaintances AFAIK, so I'm only going by what I read at the time. IIRC there were already places in some fairly well to do areas where childhood diseases were popping up again.1 point

Hope the injuries don’t start spreading to the fanbase. I could deal with a broken finger or concussion if necessary, have had both. Broken jaw would be rough, could drink out of straw for awhile if I had to like my dad did when he got hit by a flying puck while standing on the players’ bench. But I want nothing to do with ACL.1 point

Wouldn't it be wild if we found out the ****wads in congress were trading stocks and making a killing while having all that inside information? Oh, wait...1 point

Can we please lock this thread before there are any more injuries.1 point

Boras is really pushing the Detroit angle for Bregman and the USA Today story by Nightengale reprinted in the Freep is enough for good laugh - did you know Detroit has the inside track on Bregman because he went to school with the Tiger's bullpen catcher? Who knew?1 point

day drinking the spiked kool aid before noon is a bad sign MC! lol. i hope youre right. if they win more than one more game this year that's a real positive sign, imo.1 point

No one said it was going to be easy. Last year, we went into Dallas in week 17 and played a game on national television that we should have won. The defense let us down at points, we got robbed at the end. We were all angry, upset, disappointed, even hanging our heads. It would have been easy for the team to go all woe is me and fold it in for the season. They took that adversity and ate it for lunch. They'll do the same here. Lions will win the next three and get the first-round bye. I still think they will reach New Orleans too.1 point

In my mind, the Lions have gone from favorites to win the NFC to underdogs. I think they can do it, but that it's not likely now.1 point

We need a thread just to keep up with all the Lion injuries. 😒😒1 point

I'm not even talking about baseball managers. I'm talking about middle managers in everyday employment situation, like in offices or factories or even academia. If you've ever been one and had your own boss go around you to work directly with your people without your approval or knowledge, you'd know what I mean.1 point

I assume they already have a plan in place to blame the Democrats and their voters for rising inflation under Trump.1 point

I think this may have been Goff's best game as a Lion, and it isn't just because of the stat sheet. He made plays out of structure and looked comfortable doing it. The pass to Patrick for the TD, the 10+ yard run for a 1st down, spinning out of a sack on the final drive, and a couple other plays where he scrambled, reset and got completions. He's not going to be confused with a Mahomes or Allen, but if he makes one or two of those type of plays a game it takes his game to a whole other level because he was making tight window passes out of the pocket all game. The secondary wasn't bad. The Bills receivers didn't have a great game. Shakir is their best receiver and had 6 catches for 39 yards. Coleman had one catch for 60 yards when he got lost in coverage. The Bills leading receivers were RBs and TEs. The injuries to the linebackers were exposed. Problem is, Kmet is a decent TE and Swift can catch it out of the backfield. That will definitely need to be addressed.1 point

It's just our luck that the Lions are finally really, really good and oh... guess what... so are the Vikings and Packers. 12-2 and we haven't clinched the division. We could very easily end up 14-3 and be the 5th seed in the NFC. That's just crazy.1 point

This is the first time all season I've really, truly felt bad about the direction of this team and worried about our Super Bowl prospects. At some point you simply can't overcome this amount of injuries and expect to win every single game that breaks down into a shootout.1 point

I just want to also say that sometimes you have to credit the opposition and I think the Bills deserve a lot of credit. They played great, didn't turn the ball over, didn't make many dumb or costly penalties, their RBs didn't miss the holes that were created and Allen didn't miss open receivers. They were an elite team that played as close to flawless as you could on offense with their only real miscue being the missed kick.1 point

The Davis and McNeil injuries depress me more than the loss. I was hoping that Green Bay was the nadir with respect to depletion and that the defensive personnel would only get better week by week as players returned.1 point

Last week in the Vikings-Cardinals game the announcers quoted the Vikings DC as saying that he doesn’t run a man defense every week because he doesn’t think it’s sustainable. I think this kind of output gives some truth to that.1 point

He was basically Josh Allen vs Stafford and the Rams.1 point

It was really decided with the first drive of the game. Three and out. Buffalo basically decided that Montgomery was not going to beat them. He didn’t. By the time Detroit’s offense adjusted the deficit was too big. Also, Kerby Joseph has not had an INT in several games. He was really a game changer for a while.1 point

Are there people that actually think grocery prices will go down? We ALWAYS have inflation. Food prices are not going down ever.1 point

If Jameson Williams does was Dalton Kincaid did after that catch, it’s a 15-yard penalty.1 point

To me the history of the episode argues that is very unilkely Hinch would want anyone from that team/history showing up at his doorstep today, let alone one of the supposed ring leaders, and I see no way Harris would not respect that. To me that is a stronger determining factor for Bregman any analysis of whether he is a fit or will be a declining asset.1 point

Also it just happens to coincide in a year where 2 other division foes collectively have 3 non Lions losses and another NFC team only has 2 losses total. Most years if you finish 13-4 you comfortably win your division and likely have a bye in the 1st round. The Lions could go potentially 14-3 and end up a 5 seed.0 points
