You tell 'em Tork. Why should you take hitting advice from a bunch of nerds in Coke-bottle glasses? There is a reason why they were always the last ones picked in the schoolyard. There is a reason why they never had a date in high school, why they do up the top button on their golf shirts. Really sick of these guys thinking they can take over a game designed for men.5 points

So much going on in last 3 pages of this thread: -- Shocker re: Cobb. I thought for sure he was in line for 32 starts and 200+ innings. I actually am happy about it because my preference would be for Mize and Jobe to be in the rotation. Jobe because he's ready and Mize because he needs 1 more chance before we move on completely -- Twitter is an absolute cesspool. I deactivated my account a few months ago and am very happy with that decision. Social media is like organized religion - has done more harm than good. And anything newsworthy that's posted there on any topic that interests me, I find out second hand anyway. So I still get the updates without directly exposing myself to the absolute worst of humanity -- Tork can't be gone soon enough as far as I'm concerned. Even if he didn't believe in advanced analytics (which is dumb, but let's forget it), you'd think someone who is on thin ice and running out of lives would be willing to do whatever his team thinks is best to improve his chance of sticking. That is, of course, unless he doesn't want to stick. At this point I'm convinced he clearly wants out and is trying to force their hand -- Brebbia is a solid signing. Not going to be a final piece or anything, but he'll be a contributor4 points

I would also rather they develop hitters. Pitchers are fragile and thus it's difficult to build a foundation centering around pitching. There is always going to be a need for pitchers whereas I think you can build a position player foundation which lasts for a few years.3 points

My adult daughter has multiple needs. She's deaf, struggles with spectrum issues, disabled. She is able to enjoy a level of independent living through Medicare and SNAP. This is a life we cannot provide her; it would break us within a year. The difference is that our daughter has a family to care about her; too many of her peers' families have long ago forsaken them. As parents we fully apppreciate the expense Medicaid provides. Any waste or fraud only takes from those who most need the aid. This is not how to make a system better. This is pulling the plug - literally, for some - on life support. The question is not what sort of political move this is. The question is whether this is the sort of society we aspire to be. Some argue Medicaid isn't a right. But it is the right thing to do.3 points

I think signing him would have substatntially boosted their chances of making the playoffs the next couple of years.2 points

I am glad the Tigers apparently made a solid offer to Bregman. It gives me hope that they won't be shy whe the right players are available. As for hitters not wanting to come to Detroit, the flip side is they were able to sign Flaherty probably because Deroit is is a favorable environment for pitchers for multiple reasons.2 points

yup - looking at his relative performance in the two venues, we probably should have just ignored all the talk from the beginning.2 points

There's no chance in hell the Tigers are re-signing Skubal. He'll land $250M+, and it sure as hell ain't coming from us.2 points

I think they would have more succes with putting Keith back to 3rd and for anyone worked up about 3 months of Bergman talk stay away from College recruiting this was nothing compared to a 17 year old teasing you2 points

They got a good player for one, two or three years and don't have to deal with the likely decline in the his mid 30s. I would have been happy if he Tigers got him for that.2 points

Yep. Us too. Luckily he’s still on my plan but when he’s 26… Medicaid it is. Oh well. I guess it’s his fault to the maga dip****s out there. Anybody who supports these cuts can suck my….2 points

With this administration, cruelty IS the point. My younger sister is in a similar boat, and I don’t know what she’s going to do if this is stripped away.2 points

Last season the Tigers were 28th of 30 teams with a taxable payroll of $109M. This season there are currently at 19th at $145M. Ok - If you wanted to be a big meanie about it you *could* say 28th was starting from a small baseline. (BTW - The highest they have been recently is 3rd, 2017) (these numbers as per Spotrac - probably close enough to get the gist...)1 point

Was the RB position considered a need when they drafted Gibbs? In their eyes it must have been to an extent. To a lot of arm chair GMs and fans I don't think they had RB as a need after signing Montgomery. I know I didn't look at the position as a need going into the draft that year.1 point

This podcast is dedicated to discussing the Tigers Farm System. Really good.1 point

I dont get why people are so eager for Jace and so quick to just say dumb Tork. Jace hasn't shown much at the ML level either.1 point

yup. It will be hard for the pitching to look good if this IF plays down as far as it easily could.1 point

I don't know why they didn't appear to have interest in Chapman. He was my #1 target. Perhaps, it was easier to convince ownership to get involved this year after making the playoffs last year.1 point

Can't say as I blame Bregman for taking the Boston deal at all. Seems like the best move for him personally. I don't like that he's not coming here, but I do like that the Tigers (ie, Ilitch) was willing to offer a big deal for a FA. Obviously this doesn't mean that Harris has full permission to spend a lot whenever/however he wants, but the fact that they apparently were willing to spend here seems encounraging.1 point

If they are making a $120M investment based on a 98 PA sample, that is a mistake.1 point

You know its a good time in Charlotte when ESPN doesn't have a bio picture of your leading scorer.1 point

He has to make the team first. Is he better than Holton, Brieske, Foley, Vest, Kahnlee. Hurter, Guenther, Hanifee? Maybe, but those guys were pretty good last year. He does add some depth though which is crucial today.1 point

Yeah doesn't seem possible to go 16 seasons without doing that but here we are. Speaking of .500, the Pistons played December .500, were 3 games over .500 in January and are currently 3 games over in February with 5 to play. Tough final 5 games this month but have a shot at back to back winning months and 3 of atleast .500 or better.1 point

it's good to see the pistons just be able to **** with bad teams. "oh, you make a couple threes to get it to 10? ah well, we'll just take the game seriously for 3 possessions and its back to 16."1 point

The 880b is over 10 years, so it's just a devastating cut, not a complete elimination. Except for the 10% of people no longer covered or the medical providers reimbursed further below cost.1 point

Try to get Ant if they want another star. But he might be busy impregnating someone. New text messages came out about another kid. People can't figure out if he is texting a previous baby momma or a new one. So its either 5 kids with 4 women or the elusive 5 x 5.1 point

I know a lot of this nonsense is just a distraction from the things he’s actually doing, but could you imagine if Biden said something like this?1 point

Yeah I'd much rather get somebody like Sweat than trade the house for Garrett or Crosby. I don't necessarily feel you need to have 2 elite DEs to cause havoc on the lines, sure if cost wasn't an issue you'd love to have it but I think a dependable player(s) on one side and an elite guy on the other can cause more than enough disruption. Also I'm of the belief that you are better served getting those bull rushers on the interior against today's QBs, cause unless you get there immediately QBs nowadays are mobile enough where they will just step up into the pocket and find a lane to take off or throw from. When you collapse the pocket from within that takes that option away. So if I were to invest in the Dline I'd rather get a premium pass rusher from the interior position.1 point

bsky vs. twitter. I wish more people would make the move. Enough Tigers beat guys have that I can get what I need in the special group of them I've created. Still waiting on the Evans. Bluesky is 100% chronological and user chosen. No algorithm pushing stuff. I'm keeping my Twitter for the stragglers, but if you see, almost every tweet I have posted since 1/20 has included a jab at its piece of **** owner. I suspect the blue checkmarks don't want to move and lose that paycheck. My golf follows, understandably, are slow to move.1 point

Ed said something about a roster deadline a few days ago. I don't keep up with that. But that could be it as well. I just get fed up with the sentiment that somehow the Tigers are being lazy or whatever.1 point
