  1. You tell 'em Tork. Why should you take hitting advice from a bunch of nerds in Coke-bottle glasses? There is a reason why they were always the last ones picked in the schoolyard. There is a reason why they never had a date in high school, why they do up the top button on their golf shirts. Really sick of these guys thinking they can take over a game designed for men.

  2. So much going on in last 3 pages of this thread: -- Shocker re: Cobb. I thought for sure he was in line for 32 starts and 200+ innings. I actually am happy about it because my preference would be for Mize and Jobe to be in the rotation. Jobe because he's ready and Mize because he needs 1 more chance before we move on completely -- Twitter is an absolute cesspool. I deactivated my account a few months ago and am very happy with that decision. Social media is like organized religion - has done more harm than good. And anything newsworthy that's posted there on any topic that interests me, I find out second hand anyway. So I still get the updates without directly exposing myself to the absolute worst of humanity -- Tork can't be gone soon enough as far as I'm concerned. Even if he didn't believe in advanced analytics (which is dumb, but let's forget it), you'd think someone who is on thin ice and running out of lives would be willing to do whatever his team thinks is best to improve his chance of sticking. That is, of course, unless he doesn't want to stick. At this point I'm convinced he clearly wants out and is trying to force their hand -- Brebbia is a solid signing. Not going to be a final piece or anything, but he'll be a contributor

  3. I would also rather they develop hitters. Pitchers are fragile and thus it's difficult to build a foundation centering around pitching. There is always going to be a need for pitchers whereas I think you can build a position player foundation which lasts for a few years.

  4. My adult daughter has multiple needs. She's deaf, struggles with spectrum issues, disabled. She is able to enjoy a level of independent living through Medicare and SNAP. This is a life we cannot provide her; it would break us within a year. The difference is that our daughter has a family to care about her; too many of her peers' families have long ago forsaken them. As parents we fully apppreciate the expense Medicaid provides. Any waste or fraud only takes from those who most need the aid. This is not how to make a system better. This is pulling the plug - literally, for some - on life support. The question is not what sort of political move this is. The question is whether this is the sort of society we aspire to be. Some argue Medicaid isn't a right. But it is the right thing to do.

  5. I think signing him would have substatntially boosted their chances of making the playoffs the next couple of years.

  6. I am glad the Tigers apparently made a solid offer to Bregman. It gives me hope that they won't be shy whe the right players are available. As for hitters not wanting to come to Detroit, the flip side is they were able to sign Flaherty probably because Deroit is is a favorable environment for pitchers for multiple reasons.

  7. yup - looking at his relative performance in the two venues, we probably should have just ignored all the talk from the beginning.

  8. There's no chance in hell the Tigers are re-signing Skubal. He'll land $250M+, and it sure as hell ain't coming from us.

  9. I think they would have more succes with putting Keith back to 3rd and for anyone worked up about 3 months of Bergman talk stay away from College recruiting this was nothing compared to a 17 year old teasing you

  10. They got a good player for one, two or three years and don't have to deal with the likely decline in the his mid 30s. I would have been happy if he Tigers got him for that.

  16. I think it also comes from seeing an opportunity to get a player they see as special enough to be able to dominate and make plays. That was what they saw in Gibbs. They could have relied on Montgomery and someone else, but Gibbs can break defenses. I think they hope Arnold will develop into a dominant CB (now that he’s not getting so many flags). They wanted Gonzales, but Terrion is close, imo.

  17. Putting a pin for this... I am not necessarily saying this was a reason not to sign him, but in terms of something to track going forward, if the Tigers hit on their second rounder this year or hit on a pick taken with under slot money saved on the second rounder, remember that wouldn't have happened if Bregman signed.

  18. They might draft a player more with upside more now than in the past. Your teams roster does change how you create your board. This what I think the Vaki and Manu picks were. I could be wrong but its just a different team now which means your needs change. When you have holes everywhere, its easy to go with straight up BPA. There is also the situation where you think there is a game changer that has dropped because other teams needs and the rules of not drafting certain positions early (Gibbs pick). I also think they might be willing to take a player like Jalen Carter more now than two years ago because of the leadership they have. They did go with Jamo three years ago although I don't think he was thought to be an issue when they drafted him.

  23. In theory he was a perfect fit here. That's why the Tigers went all in. But he's a pure pull hitter that took advantage of Houston's short porch and will do the same in Boston. Bregman doesn't have enormous power. Comerica would have frustrated him, anyway. In fact, he made the right choice.

  24. Assuming that the 6-170+ offer the Tigers made is real (I believe it), I think the Cubs are the team they used to drive up Boston's number IMO... Basically Bregman had one long term offer he would consider and a couple of teams interested in the shorter term play, and he used one to drive up the price for the other. I'm glad it's over.... I would like to think this should put to rest any of the "ownership won't spend" hot takes, but that's probably optimistic lol

  25. At least he didn't go to an AL Central team. Maybe he'll suck or someone will establish themselves at third otherwise we're going through this again next year.

  27. Thompson might be better served working on a little 10-15 foot pull up jumper. Seems like it would be easier to teach someone to make that shot compared to a 3 point shot. It would also give him options on times he cant get all the way to the rim. Just because he gets the ball behind the 3pt line wide open doesn't mean he has to shoot that. Take two dribbles and stick the 12 footer in their eye. His FT% isn't good so maybe not.

  28. Let's just say this. Yes, Bregman is better than Vierling. But if Vierling is a $3 million a year guy, Bregman is not a $40 million a year guy. He's not that much better. Not even close.

  35. Well.......... maybe getting away from all of it is actually good for him. Maybe it was just too much and he needed down time from it all. Most of us felt that last year's problems were more mental than anything and maybe that's true. I guess we'll see, right? But I have a feeling that his next MLB game will not be in a Tigers uniform.
