And I see several "high level" needs for this team where I sorta wish we had (4) 2nd rounders as ATF alluded to: Starting LG. I'm good with Mahogany as RG and Glasgow as top backup for all 3 interior spots. But I think this is a good draft to get a starting LG. So many that would fit right in: Mbow, Ratledge, Savaiinaea, Booker, even Zabel as a Glasgow 2.0. And as the O-Line goes, so goes Goff and our offense. I don't want to take any O-Line need lightly. Starting DT. I think our interior line had as many problems as the Edge after all the injuries, especially after Alim went down. Reader is here for only 1 more year. If Kenneth Grant, who completely dominates the interior and also has some pass-rush ability (not a lot, but just enough... mostly collapsing the pocket...) is there at the #28 reason: Why would Brad Holmes pass on him? Imagine McNeil and Grant dominating every single O-Line...! And yes, a top edge prospect. Can Holmes find some hidden piece of gold in this year's draft that none of us are even considering? In the 2nd or 3rd round? I wouldn't put it past him. Does anyone in here have 100% comfort level with Jamo? I don't. I want a high-end X-Receiver simply to have "one more guy" that Goff can depend on. This could be any round though... 2nd through the 6th, just as a guess. I see 4 high level needs that are just high enough... that I don't want to strip Holmes of multiple picks to go up and get "one guy". If he can do it cheaply (which he's been able to do for the most part...) I'm ok with that. But not if it costs too many other valuable picks. And at the end of the 1st, sometimes there are very unique opportunities to trade down a few spots and gain another high value pick. If the draft falls just right... But I'm fine with whatever Brad does. In Brad Holmes I trust.2 points

Bobrob’s 2025 Preseason Prediction - #14 – Trey Thomas Sweeney The Tigers acquired Trey Sweeney at last year’s trade deadline when they sold Jack Flaherty to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Not only did they make the playoffs anyway, but Flaherty resigned with the Tigers, essentially getting Sweeney for a rental. Sweeney was called up in mid-August and became the regular shortstop for the remainder of the season when Javier Baez was out due to injury. He hit .218/.269/.373 with four home runs and an 81 wRC+ in 119 plate appearances. He looks to start 2025 as the starting shortstop again with Baez getting plenty of playing time at third base to start the season. Will Sweeney be able to stay at the Major League club, or will he struggle and get sent down to AAA? Trey Sweeney’s stint in Toledo was brief, but man did he hit. LAD AAA – 440 PA | .254/.334/.427 | 13 HR | 88 wRC+ DET AAA – 47 PA | .381/.447/.667 | 2 HR | 187 wRC+ DET MLB – 119 PA | .218/.269/.373 | 4 HR | 81 wRC+ Of course, small sample sizes apply, but it may show that Sweeney has nothing left to prove in AAA and it’s sink or swim time at the Major League level. Many experts are predicting that the 25-year old will struggle this year, which is typical for a rookie. One area I would like to see Sweeney improve on is his walk rate. He has shown to have a good walk rate in the minor leagues, but it was less than impressive at the Major League level. 2021 – 138 PA | 15.9% BB% | 22.5% K% | 25.0% HR/FB% 2022 – 508 PA | 13.0% BB% | 23.2% K% | 13.7% HR/FB% 2023 – 472 PA | 13.8% BB% | 19.1% K% | 9.3% HR/FB% 2024 (MiLB) – 487 PA | 10.1% BB% | 26.7% K% | 18.1% HR/FB% 2024 (MLB) – 119 PA | 5.9% BB% | 26.9% K% | 12.5% HR/FB% Sweeney also showed some speed in the minor leagues. In 2022, he stole 31 bases; in 2023 he stole 20 bases; and in 2024 he stole 20 bases (plus 2 more with the Tigers at the ML level). If he can get his walk rate to 10 percent or above, combined with around 20 stolen bases, he could be a good candidate to hit at the top of the order along with Parker Meadows in the coming years. Power numbers usually come later, and Trey Sweeney didn’t even show bad power numbers in his Major League time last year. He had a .155 ISO with a 7.6 percent extra base hit rate. He had a .183 ISO and a 9.4 percent extra base hit rate in AAA last year (LAD and DET combined). These numbers are right around what Parker Meadows showed last year with the Tigers after spending some time in AAA. It wouldn’t be unreasonable to expect that Sweeney can get it that high within the next few years. It’s always hard to predict what a rookie will do. Trey Sweeney has the Major League experience and has put up better than decent numbers in the minor leagues. But at the same time, it is a big leap from AAA to MLB and some hitters take longer to adjust. It’s best to be optimistic, but cautious. I think his season will be similar to Colt Keith’s last year, just a lot of ups and downs as he is adjusting but finishing around an average wRC+. Hopefully there won’t be too many downs that they have to send him to AAA again, but even so, it has helped other players before. I’m excited to see what Sweeney will do this year, regardless. If you have truly been part of sensitive operations you are not a scofflaw about this stuff. There is always a sense that no adversary is that good to pick up this piece of information and this other piece and make a tapestry out of it...but as a matter of fact, yes they are.1 point

In my job we deal with secrecy, both in terms of a proprietary nature and things that are not yet public knowledge and some things go beyond the standard internal understanding that you don't blab. We are a publicly traded company. SEC, etc. Meaning.... if we talk about subject A, we have to make sure the people in our audience are either NDA'd or asked to leave. When we have meetings we validate who is on the call. The meeting organizer is responsible ultimately but we all also do it. Nobody wants to talk to our lawyers. I've been involved in things I couldn't even discuss with my direct reports two levels up. I'm not saying that to brag or that I'm special... I'm not. I'm a non mangement grunt. But I go through these exercises and it's unbelievable that people at that level in our government are not doing, at minimum, the same thing. The invite was careless. I don't know anything about Signal but I assume you can see who else is on the chat. Everybody on that should have wondered who "JG" was.1 point

GM'ing is very hard, I don't disagree there. As a GM, good or bad, part of your job is not only evaluation of talent on the ice, but also the talent you have inside the organization. You have to evaluate the talent you have and put out on the ice to see who fits, who doesn't, and where changes have to be made. Part of making those changes includes consulting the talent you have in your front office. You also have to be willing to make similar evaluations of your front office and scouting staff to see what is working, what isn't, and where changes have to be made. Right now, Yzerman's pro scouting and player personnel staff is failing him miserably. Maybe they actually aren't failing him and Yzerman is making all the pro side personnel moves himself. Maybe he's doing all the free agent signings, trades, and transactions on his own, without consulting his pro scouts and player personnel staff. I doubt that very much though. Whoever is giving his advice is either giving him bad advice or isn't speaking out if they believe he's making a bad decision. I don't if it's Assistant GM Shawn Horcoff, Player Personnel people like Clearly and/or Fischer, or any one of the number of scouts they have. But his pro side moves have on average been mediocre to bad. And when the moves haven't worked, they really haven't worked (Chiarot, Gustafsson, Holl, Husso, Petry, Tarasenko). We've seen other Detroit GMs come in and clean house in their respective organization's scouting and player personnel departments, be it Brad Holmes with the Lions or Scott Harris with the Tigers. Maybe Yzerman needs to be looking into making some changes on his player personnel or pro-side scouting staff. Assuming they are advising him on some of the signings they are making, they aren't advising him very well.1 point

I like City Connect. They are Fun. And serve as a reminder that it is Friday. And that nothing matters but the weekend. Plus fireworks. And that I get a two-day reprieve from my oppressive job and terrible workmates. And my internal demons and horrible thoughts temporarily subside. Yes, I like City Connect.1 point

Well, this isn’t the NBA. There isn’t a ten day contract option. So, yeah, it had to be a one year contract. I don’t know how much stock to put into this contract being a sign about Meadows. They just need another CF right now. This keeps Greene out of CF. He can probably handle it from a skill perspective, but why bother tempting fate (or at least increasing the odds) with an injury to the team’s best position player?1 point
