I usually end up going alone a few times a year. I enjoy it. Last year I went to the Angels game that started at like 10 pm. I was already down there when they delayed it and the small storm system would.not.move. Otherwise I never would have went. I stayed in my car for almost 2 hours waiting for it to stop raining. At that point I was determined to see the game... and I needed to go to the bathroom so I figured I would walk in to at least have a beer and use the bathroom, then leave. But by that point they announced a starting time. I was the only person in my section. It's nice to just have your own thoughts and not have to entertain or whatever.4 points

You know, I’ll probably be dead in a small number of years (& lately it’s feeling imminent ), but I really feel like I can’t just shrug this one off, mostly because I have in my family kids under 20. And 3 are females, whose very future is now looking dangerous. A percentage of the population will not care if they actually die…. & it seems that it will depend where they choose to live. I guess they shouldn’t travel anywhere. Look, I’m rambling, but I’m honestly afraid for them. And, I’m worried for our aging population (I am for sure in this group), because it feels like the rest of you are waiting for us to shut up and just ****ing die already.4 points

I refuse to believe that oppo taco is a part of regular baseball nomenclature. I think it’s one national broadcasters pet thing.3 points

I remember when the Tigers had too many starting pitchers last spring and it took until June for bullpen days to be regular.2 points

when I've gone and done SRO and paced the concourse like a softball coach, while I watched the game I've enjoyed myself a lot. Now, going and having a chat with my dad or kids its also very nice.2 points

Meanwhile the other side of the coin today's JVL missive https://www.thebulwark.com/p/meet-the-worst-people-in-america?utm_source=substack&publication_id=87281&post_id=165011642&utm_medium=email&utm_content=share&utm_campaign=email-share&triggerShare=true&isFreemail=false&r=45wcm&triedRedirect=true Talking about some very fine folks in Kennett, MO who are upset because one of their own was caught in the ICE Trap... one thing I never do as a sports fan is "look forward to" or "would rather face" with an opponent. It never works out.2 points

I don’t know if there’s anything we can do, at least in the short term. This is the dictatorship playbook, and Americans have long been so sheltered from that, they are not even aware it exists, let alone recognize it when it’s in front of their face. But you’re right: you and I and the rest of us have no power as individuals to effect change. Our power lies in our acting as a collective. But that’s uniquely difficult to achieve in this country because American ideology elevates individualism above all else and discourages—and even occasionally criminalizes—collectives. Remember how big an insult it was meant to be by dismissing Obama as a “community organizer”? Because community is only a few letters from communism, amirite? As far as Trump being on the hook, I don’t mean prosecuting him or anything like that. I’m talking about the simple act of disavowing that he has any responsibility for words coming out under his name, if we were to learn it’s not really him doing the actual writing. But of course it is if they come out under his name, even if he never saw the words before they went out. They’re still his words, and he’s responsible for them. We can’t let him off the hook by saying he’s too stupid to think up words. That’s basically infantilizing him. By excusing him for things done in his name that people believe he’s not capable of concocting himself, we’re letting him off the hook. I’m just saying, don’t let him off the hook. He’s not just “following orders”.2 points

you can win an election on not being the other guy, but you don't build anything that way. 2020 being the example. Biden had the core of new democratic approach on economics, but his party wasn't really interested in it and in the end he was too out of gas to be a major change agent. In 2024 Harris basically ran on cultural progressivism, which I think is great but clearly doesn't win elections in the US, and her economics was basically old school democratic 'give away more stuff' promises that fly in the face of a deficit approaching 3rd world country levels. That combination just didn't move enough people to say "Yeah! Those are the long term goals we aspire to!" - ergo - there was no party ideological/policy adhesion (for enough people) providing immunity against the Trump reprise.1 point

There is writing off a prospect and there is not counting on a prospect until he proves himself. I usually do the latter with every prospect.1 point

I'm so glad I got to see Jimmy Buffett at Red Rocks. My wife and I talked about it for years, finally got tickets, and then it was canceled due to COVID. Fortunately it got rescheduled (two years later, I think), and we got to go. It ended up being the last time he played there before he died.1 point

As much as I dislike Rand Paul for several reasons, he's correct here. This should be a major Democrat talking point in '261 point

I’m watching the parts of the game that were especially satisfying from last night and when Jack falls face forward running to first the first base umpire breaks into spontaneous laughter. It’s sort of like watching a silent movie where someone slips on the ice and everyone laughs.1 point

June 3 https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/june-3 A quick personal note, Washington later bought the land around Fort Necessity. One of the reason the land was preserved and became part of the US Park Service1 point

That's just him in the zone. Like a starting pitcher on game days. I've met him 3 times and he actually remembered me once at Bonnaroo (not my name but he said "Hey - Ann Arbor, right?") He's actually quite friendly -at least he has been since the late 90's - he was a bit of a jackass in his earlier years, I think it was a schtick as much as anything. A few people set him straight on that. He was trying to be a "punk". The stage is his domain. Plus, he probably couldn't see you very well from the bad eyesight and all the lights pointed at him. So the glare might have just been him squinting.1 point

I don't care who is at the keyboard. If tweets go out under his name, even if he knows nothing about it, it's him. It's his responsibility, If it's his name, it's his voice and his words. He does not get off the hook for not knowing. Or at least he shouldn't.1 point
