  4. Page 1 of 3 lordstanley Posted March 31, 2009 Always my favorite moment of the hockey season, apart from Red Wing playoff victories. Could tonight be the night? lordstanley Posted April 1, 2009 Looking good so far, but still a ways to go, at least an hour and a half. After being just a hit goalpost away on Saturday. lordstanley Posted April 1, 2009 The fat lady is warming up ... Shinma Posted April 1, 2009 Blue Jackets? lordstanley Posted April 1, 2009 Better than that ... by being much worse. Shinma Posted April 1, 2009 Ah ha. Maple Leafs. Heh. lordstanley Posted April 1, 2009 It's over in Montreal. 8th place Habs win, taking them to 88 points. In the unlikely event the Leafs win their final six games, they'd top out at 87 points ... which means ... the Leafs miss the playoffs so once again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again again WILL NOT WIN THE STANLEY CUP!! Hahaha, suck it Leafs, you despicable bums. 11 months later... lordstanley Posted March 31, 2010 I look forward to this annual bump as much as the Mccarty-Lemieux anniversary. Leafs lose, they're out of the playoffs ... AGAIN. 43 YEARS ... AND COUNTING!!!!!!!!!!!!! Vonlenska Posted March 31, 2010 😞 lordstanley Posted March 31, 2010 Longest drought (43 years) between Finals appearances in NHL history!! Not to mention 43 years between Cups! Johnny Mac Posted March 31, 2010 The Blackhawks last won in 1960-61 and only have one finals appearance since then. I think that is probably worse. lordstanley Posted March 31, 2010 (edited) Actually, the Hawks have made the Finals five times since their last Stanley Cup including 3 times since 1967 (Leafs 0 since 1967): 1962 1965 1971 1973 1992 The Hawks have won 13 division titles since 1967; the Leafs 1. This will be the Hawks' 8th 100pt season since 1967; the Leafs 2. The Hawks have made the NHL semi-finals 14 times since 1967; the Leafs 5. If he does, he's true blue. lordstanley Posted March 31, 2010 My uncle had it rough. Huge Wings fan but long-time Ontario schoolteacher. The Ontario teacher's union is the largest shareholder of the Maple Leafs through their pension fund. BTW, too bad Tim Horton didn't stick to drinking only coffee the day he died. Kdoogie24 Posted March 31, 2010 Im bored of making fun of Leafs fans. About 75% of the people I know are fans of the Buds, and it has become tiring. Some of them have realized a while ago just how bad their organization is, so there's no use in trying to grill them. On the other hand though, I still laugh when they get optimistic. A good start to the season will have them talking playoffs. When the Dion Phaneuf deal was announced this year, you would have thought they acquired Bobby Orr. Luke Schenn and Nazem Kadri are clearly two of the best 19-20 year old prospects in the world. Most of them are terribly delusional, its actually very comical. Shinma Posted April 8, 2010 free_beer_to_leafs_playoff_games.gif lordstanley Posted April 16, 2010 Tough times for Toronto sports fans. Leafs haven't made the playoffs since 2004. Jays haven't made the playoffs since 1993. Raptors have now missed the playoffs 2 straight years. As have the CFL Argos. I don't mind the Raptors or the Argos. But the Leafs & Jays? Ha, couldn't happen to a better two teams! 11 months later... lordstanley Posted April 6, 2011 Listening to Sabres-Bolts. Sabres leading by a goal with 8 minutes to go in 3rd. The Sabres just need to at least get this game to OT and it will be bye-bye Leafs. lordstanley Posted April 6, 2011 Under 2 minutes to go 😁 lordstanley Posted April 6, 2011 ENG for the Sabres. LEAFS FALL!!! lordstanley Posted April 6, 2011 44 years... and counting! Kdoogie24 Posted April 6, 2011 Love it. Quote 11 months later... lordstanley Posted March 27, 2012 Shin's favorite annual post was last night, and mine could be as early as tonight. lordstanley Posted March 28, 2012 Game over at the ACC. 8. So these masked and unidentified ICE agents are grabbing violent and dangerous immigrant felons off the streets and we haven't heard of a single shooting of desperate people fighting back? It's almost like they're kidnapping innocent people just trying to survive and support families. Amazing, in a country with hundreds of thousands of guns, not a single incident?

  14. I think so too... get out of the "eat before the game" mode. Fridays they market as "party in the park" with discounted food and drinks before hand via a "happy hour". Saturday and Sunday are either day games or night games for TV so 6:40 doesn't apply. But with the pitch clock the idea of getting out too late is gone now. I understood when the games were 30 minutes longer.

  16. THis year they moved the summer Friday games to 7:10. Midweek still 6:40. Which I still hate. It's fine for April and September when it's colder and kids are in school so you want them home. But a "night out" at the game shouldn't be over at 9:15 on a random Tuesday in July.

  21. Great thread. Loved some of these movies. To get down to 4...that's tough. "Death of Stalin" is great but its humor is not as important as it tackling the subject matter. Very similar to "Doctor Strangelove" in that regard. all of the Monty Python movies are great and I love all the humorous movies that Terry Gilliam did since (e.g., "The Fisher King", "Twelve Monkeys"). My American Mount Rushmore of Comedy: I'm going to have to work hard to narrow this down to 4. "This is Spinal Tap" The police said it was a crime best left, unsolved really - Rob Reiner comedy tree "Galaxy Quest" We've got to get out of her before one of those things kills Guy! "Tommy Boy" "The Big Lebowski" "Office Space" "Stripes" "Animal House" and "Vacation" both from National Lampoon "The Blues Brothers" "Zoolander" "Spy" My British Trafalgar Square of Comedy "In Bruges" The Corneto Trilogy: "Hot Fuzz," "Shaun of the Dead," "At the End of the World" All the Monty Python movies: "Holy Grail" being leader of the pack

  29. I share Google AIs reply with ChatGPT. The reply Google’s AI Overview strikes again—gracefully face-planting into a pile of its own fabricated confidence. According to it, Casey Mize was drafted out of high school in 2018, which is a fascinating take if you’ve never heard of facts, college baseball, or basic research. Just to recap for our robot overlords: Mize came out of Auburn University, not Algebra II. The Tigers used the #1 overall pick—not their “first pick wherever it happened to land.” And no, they’ve never used the #1 overall pick on a high schooler, but thanks for playing. This isn’t just a minor error. This is what happens when a glorified autocomplete tries to cosplay as a baseball historian. It’s like someone asked a Magic 8-Ball for draft facts and then published the answer in bold. Honestly, it takes real effort to misunderstand something this simple while sounding so sure of yourself. Google’s AI didn’t just miss the mark—it confidently wandered into the wrong stadium and declared victory. But yeah, tell me again how AI is going to replace actual knowledge.

  30. Or maybe they were too "on" for the first ten or so weeks, and now they're regressing to a more reasonable and sustainable level? They might not be a 103-win juggernaut after all. Maybe they're more like a solid 90-win team which, heck, ain't bad at all.

  31. As if we need a reminder about how stupid Google AI is, it just told me that the Tigers drafted Casey Mize out of high school in 2018. It couldn’t distinguish between having the first pick overall and the first pick the Tigers had regardless of where their pick occured, but I knew if I gave parameters too specific it would most likely get confused and give me nothing at all. Yet it still discovered a way to be confused. AI Overview The Detroit Tigers have drafted high school players with their first overall pick twice in the modern draft era: in 1997 and 2018. They selected pitcher Matt Anderson first overall in 1997 and pitcher Casey Mize in 2018. While the Tigers have drafted many high school players overall, these are the only two instances where a high school player was chosen with the very first pick
