  1. Loving Javy is so much better than being resentful about him.

  4. what so sad is that it isn't even going to work. They are absolutely trying to be so cruel that they think it will stop people from trying to come - but it won't. The only thing that will stop that is going after employers and they absolutely won't do that. So it's is going be like illicit drugs. You can do all the interdiction you want and make sentences as draconian as you want, and as long as there is demand, the drugs will keep coming. This is exactly the same. As long as you can sneak across the border and someone will hire you, all the cruelty on the side isn't going to change a thing. It's just encouragement of moral rot in the nation's soul.

  6. 27k to a barber...this is why I shave my head. On the bright side..assuming he lives long enough to get there, he'll collect somewhere north of 100k a year in pension benefits...so he won't die completely destitute. This is where the WNBA has an advantage...if Sophie Cunningham found herself in a similar situation, she could do an OnlyFans and probably make as much or more than she does from hoops

  7. Not a chance Biden would have beat Trump if he stayed in the race. Not after the debate.

  8. Winning 20 in the era of 5 starters is equivalent of something between 25 and 30 in the 4 starter era. McLain started 41 games to win 31 (75.6%) . JV started 34 to win 24 (70.6%). Skubal might get to 33 if he doesn't miss any but 31-32 is more likely. To get to 20 he'd need a ~60 winning %. To win 20 in the era of 40 starts meant your won half your starts, and that still tends to hold. 16 wins today is about the equivalent of 20 back in the day. The other big difference is that McLain completed 28 of his starts. JV had 4 CG and averaged 7 1/3 per start the year he won 24. If you are leaving at the end of 5 or 6 it's inevitable the pen is going blow a couple of your leads and/or you team takes the lead after you've left the game. Skubal is averaging 6 1/3 this season, so that's one more inning in each game when he is not the pitcher of record compared to JV in 2011. (2 more compared to McLain in 68)

  9. Assuming the Royals are sellers, I'd love to see the Tigers get Lugo. I don't care if he's in the same division.

  10. Well, where do people think these congresspeople come from? They don't fall out of the sky. They don't pass through a membrane from another reality. They come from American parents and American families, American homes, American schools, American churches, American businesses and American universities, and they are elected by American citizens. This is the best we can do, folks. This is what we have to offer. It's what our system produces: Garbage in, garbage out. If you have selfish, ignorant citizens, you're going to get selfish, ignorant leaders, and term limits ain't going to do any good—you're just going to end up with a brand new bunch of selfish, ignorant Americans. h/t George

  16. I'm basing it on what I'm hearing from Kyle Metz (who is apparently a Pistons cap guru) on a podcast. I suppose it could be wrong, but he seems to know his stuff. I guess we'll find out in 4 days when all of these things become official.

  21. the dems have had the bad luck of having to old war-horses without the self-awareness to get out in time. RBG need to go while the Dems still had the Senate, Biden needed to see his own weakness - even if that weakness was mostly inside his own party. The old over estimating themselves is all too common and probably has no left/right bias, but it would be nice if it would happen on the other side the next few times.

  22. It’s really quite a treat. I really enjoy the way they copied Frank Lloyd Wright’s Mayan Revival Style blocks from the Ennis House in LA. It’s something I noticed in one of the offices in the Fall of the House of Usher TV series as well as in Deckard‘s apartment in the first Blade Runner.

  23. From what I heard about Liranzo while his overall numbers don't look terrible he has shown a lack of ability to hit off speed stuff which is concerning and probably a big reason for his drop. Agree about Rainer as well. With his exit velos at that age and ability to look like he can handle short that alone probably would've warranted a big jump.

  25. That's not what I'm getting at though. The problem with just being against Trump is that it still allows too many segments of the party to remain against each other. Sure Hogg will tell you everything Trump does is terrible -- and then go campaign against another Dem. Sure we've heard all the stuff about how messy the Dem coalition is etc., etc., but there until there is a set of places that Dems can agree they are all going to, or stated the other way - that if you are going that way you are a Dem, the party will remain a mess, the mess that was unable to articulate a coherent enough narrative to have defeated Trump in '24 when the Dems did run as "we're not Trump" and everyone already knew all the reasons to be against him and he won anyway. Of course if Trump messes up even more it should get easier, but in a sane world the Dems shouldn't have needed any more help than he'd already given them by 2020 to bury MAGA.

  26. Trump has made the various policies he’s for at any given time synonymous with being pro-Trump. He’s shifted the entire political conversation to focus on him. Being anti-Trump is a valid response, because his is the face of all the terrible things he’s doing. For better or worse, the Democrats’ best shot is to highlight how terrible his policies are, how they are hurting ordinary people, and how they would be different, and point to successes by Biden and Obama. They can’t just pretend Trump isn’t happening and talk only about positive Democratic policies. That ostrich **** won’t work. They have to tackle him head-on. There’s no other way. As things stand, people don’t yet know how bad they’re about to get ****ed because they’re not paying that kind of attention, so at the moment, anything the Democrats say is going to be sour apples. The policies have to take effect and they have to prove to be bad for rank-and-file red hats. There’s no other way I can see it working for Democrats. And the way the Trump people can overcome that is to make sure they give special privileges that rank-and-file red hats want while punishing blue cities and states and their uppity snooty voters. If that happens, then it’s practically game over for D, and that’s even before the institutional election fraud kicks in. It’s a pickle, all right.

  31. Part of the reason Beasley had a career year was playing with Cade - both because Cade is a great facilitator and also because he was playing against a D that was constantly overcommitting on Cade. I would expect Robinson to have a better than average year (for him) if he steps into the same situation.

  32. https://www.mlb.com/milb/news/updated-top-100-prospects-list-for-july-2025?t=mlb-pipeline-coverage McGonigle up to 7th and Clark at 12th. There's 3 current guys ahead of Kevin who are in the majors 2 of which should be exhausting their prospect status shortly so soon he'll be in the top 5. There's 3 like that for Clark so he'll be in the top 10 shortly as well.

  34. Assuming the reports about the partial guarantee in year 2 and no guarantee in year 3. I feel a lot better about this. They basically overpaid a bit to get those two conditions put in. If he works out and is worth that money, they decide to keep him. If not, cut bait and run. Sort of odd seeing a Pistons GM actually structure a contract in a way that benefits the team. I like it.

  37. It's more than that. When their constituents lose their jobs or have to finance their parents housing and healthcare, the cult members will end up blaming Congress and "Spendthrift" Democrats. Trump will get off free because he keeps handing out the Kool-Aid
